Hey, i need some help regarding pc ups.. I have 3 pcs, two decent gaming pcs :

one with a cooler master extreme psu with 500w and an ati 5670 i3 3.0ghz all stock
the other with a cooler master 600w psue, gt430 and a core 2 duo 2.4ghz..
the third is a mac mini that takes less than 300w i think..

so i want a ups that runs everything without interruption, the backup time isnt that important but it should give around 5-10 minutes.. i also have 3 lcds, but they are not that important, i can skip that if its too much load..

thats a total of 1400 watt, so go for something that can deliver atleast 1500~1700 watt

check specifically for power output in watt, and not in KVA

^then get a ups with the relay whose response time is in the order of 1 to 2 ms which are usually solid state relay.most ups found in the market come with electromagnetic relay whose response time is long which cause the pc to restart.

I would strongly suggest you read the following;

How big a UPS do I need? - http://www.jetcafe.org/npc/doc/ups-faq.html

Paying close attention to the commentary on Watts/VA.

" Computers are notoriously non-resistive. A typical PF (power factor: Watts/VA) for some computers may be as low as 0.6, which means that if you record a drain of 100 Watts, you need a power source with a VA rating of 167. Some literature suggests that 0.7 may be a good conversion factor, but this will depend heavily on the specific equipment. Moreover, there's really no way to determine these numbers besides measuring them."

also make sure that inverter is pure sine wave or at least modifies sine wave.stay away from square sine wave.

Thanks hmir that was some nice info in that document, made things quite a bit more clear..

so the way i see it, i am going at 1400w max power, something more or less impossible to be achieved unless all 3 pcs are running at their 100% which wont be happening.

so considering the equation above i should be fine with either a 2kv ups too but a 3kv one would be give me more room for connecting lcds and other devices..

can some ups guru please confirm what i said so at least i know what i need to get?

as for a 3kv ups, galaxy is selling an alfa digital 3kv ups.. any experiences? or any other suggestions?
