so finally i have saved up enough money (4.5-5k) to get some new accessories for my PC.since im still quite a noob with all this technical talk,im asking the pros to give me some good advice on purchasing the goods.

i REALLY want to leave the pentium 4 era and jump to the dual-core era, that is something i really need!

My current specs:
Taken from CPU-Z

PC:Intel (R) Pentium 4 @ 2.4 GHz

Motherboard:ASUSTek computer Inc. P4SP-MX

RAM:1GB DDR Corsair

Graphic Card:NVIDIA GeForce FX 5500 256 MB (yes,my graphic card is more expensive than my whole rig combined <_<)

So,what should i upgrade and to what?will it be compatible with my mobo,if not, suggest me something good.

Note:i would really like to upgrade my processor, that is a must!

brother you can purchase a PENTIUM D or AMD pc as hamad is saying but i recommend you to stick with your setup and expand your budget to atleast 7-8k so you can purchase a used dual core pc after selling your current setup

Check the market place there are some really cheap AMD dual cores on sale. Sell your pc for whatever you can get plus the cash you have and you would have a nice dual core minus the GPU. your current GPU isn't a lot anyways so you won't miss it much. Get the PC and then start saving for the GPU.

P.S: I know how it is like to be stuck in Pentium 4 era. It really sucks.

I have a very easy solution for you. Play Cs 1.6 and DOTA. They'll run perfect on your system :D

well,i barely understand the Intel lineup and i dont know ANYTHING about AMD processors,so need advice there as well.on the selling part, how much can my PC be sold for if put it on sale?

if it can be sold for about 3-4 k than i will happily get rid of it :)

I'm completely agree with krazyhamad420. An AMD machine will satisfy your needs with ease, at a cheap rate.
However, you can sale your system and buy a Pentium DC machine, that'll be best bet for you.

Have you measured how much you can get from your current setup?

Edit: You can also look at marketplace for awesome deals. I saw a one of the most successful Pentium Dual-Core CPU there (E6500), TheBrokenMan from Lahore is selling it for 5k.

That one is a magnificent 775 chip. It has 1066 rated FSB with 2.9+ GHz clocks. You'll find 70-75% faster than your current system IMO.
Asides you can buy a cheap motherboard, either DDR3 or DDR2 doesn't matter, really since both have became much more cheaper than before.

My measurements says that, those things will require 10k at most as far as I know.

bro what games exactly are you planning to play with ur new setup? My old pc was a dual core. The last game it ran a game decently was Assassins creed 1. and that was a Pentium D 2.8ghz, 3gb ddr2, 9600gt.
My point being.....if you're hoping to play like gta 4 or something....you'll need atleast a quad-core :(

That really depends on which resolution do you game. people have different standards. for me 25 fps on 1024 x 768 is good enough. for you may be not. and by the way there is a difference in pentium D and Dual cores.

here is a something which might be helpful. its a dual core at 2.2 Ghz but it defiantly better than what you currently have.

heck out the number 4 in this list. Its dual core at 2.4 ghz and is still in your range after selling your current pc. If you can manage 2 or 3k more than go for the number 2 or 3 but number 4 is not bad either. Also don't buy a pentium d they have serious heat issues.

well, the games im gonna play are today's titles and a BUNCH of 'old' ones.

im not a graphics Abuses will lead to ban,i can play on lowest graphics without any complaint.I'll take performance over quality any day :D

Goledenday's,thanks for the links but i think im gonna have to wait a few more months till i can get some where between 15k.Waiting would be the best solution for me IMO.

plus,im gonna buy those prize bonds, lets see what's the outcome of that purchase.

Plus my mom is giving me all that money and she wont agree to anything above 5k,so i'll just wait some more.been waiting for 5 years, what could a few more months do to me?

thanks for the suggestions everyone!keep 'em coming!

Deadman! Your whole rig combined (including GPU) is worth no more than 7 or 7.5k tops. So Taking the lowest figure and adding your current budget, we get about 12k in your possession.
Which is still NOTHING if you intend to purchase a Gaming Rig.

What you can do, is TALK with your mother. Dont ask for money, but DISCUSS the situation with her. If you can manage to get yourself about 15k ... that'll be ENOUGH for you.

After that, in about 10k you can get yourself a used but branded AMD 4xxx series Dual Core CPU, with decent 2GB 800Mhz RAM and you can also get yourself a 9600GT in about 4 or 4.5k.

Some time ago, i purchased an AMD based branded PC for my younger brother (too young, so didn't dish out enough cash), a Athlon Dual Core 3800+ with 1GB ram, 80GB HDD for 7.5k. A separate GPU was a 8600GT GPU, costing 2.5k
So in dont think you cannot get a better thing in 10k ... because you Can.
