Upgraded to Ivy Bridge? Good decision?

Ok so I had a Core i3 530 with an Asus motherboard since like 3 years. Now that the motherboard's gone bad I had 2 choices:

1) Spend 8k on a LGA1156 motherboard.
2) Upgrade to Core i3 3320 plus Intel board for 15k.

I upgraded finally but haven't used my PC yet and I'm wondering if I made the right decision? Keep in mind this build is basically for watching movies, browsing and light gaming (buy light I mean I have university coming up so won't be gaming so much).

Build:

Core i3 3320
Intel DH61WW (Chose this because of warranty, my first intel board :D)
6GB RAM (Not sure why I did this, should have gotten 4GB) Should I change the stick back to 4GB for dual channel or leave it be?
Sparkle GTX460
Xigmatec NRP502 500Watt PSU
HAF922

I'm wondering what sort of performance I can expect from this at 720p. I haven't used this PC since more than an year (was abroad) so I have no idea about how power hungry the latest titles are.

Plus I will be changing to a 24" IPS soon, will this build still have enough power for 60FPS gaming at 1080p with medium graphics?

I don't think you'll notice any real performance improvements outside gaming.
In games, however, you will notice some improvement.

You will be able to play most games at 1080p at medium/high. But some, like Metro and Crysis, you'll have to go for 1600x900

i3 to i3 is not an "upgrade".

Don't get me wrong. There will still be significant performance improvements.

But you should not have chosen "End of the Road" platform.

Now the only choice you'll have is to upgrade to i5 or i7 ivy which will still have a lot of performance gains, but not really future proof investment.

You should've waited and spend the cash on Haswell platform instead.

Anyway, now that you've bought it, Congratulations and Enjoy it.

We all know there is no future proof investment. Computer tech moves ahead way too fast for any 3+year future proof investment.

I'm not interested in overclocks. I think you guys didnt get me. Right now I ONLY had a choice between buying a new 1156motherboard for my 530 or moving to Ivy Bridge Core i3 (budget constraints and more inportantly time constraints, leaving for saudi tomorrow), Haswell was not an option.

Considering all that I hope it was the right decision. Anyways thanks for the input guys. :D

Thats sort of what I wanted to know. I wont be gaming at 1080p, have a 19" LCD. When I get a 24" one I'll just upgrade the graphics card and I think it should be enough?

Yup. 3320 is a beast. Can play with almost all the GPUs out there without a hint of bottleneck

Alan wake 2 is yet to recover it's development costs. Due to no physical release and no steam launch.
You reap what you sow. This is what happens when you take away choice from consumers. Even with 88% split going to developers, they can't recoup costs. Meanwhile, Helldivers 2 is a massive hit for Sony thanks in big part to Steam.
