Uncharted: The Lost Legacy Is Entirely Based In India, Trailer Was From The Beginning of The Game, Set After Uncharted 4, Going To Be A Huge Standalone

During a PSX panel, it was revealed that the entire standalone DLC will be set in India due to its diversity in forest and geographical locations, and that the game will feature wide level designs and will go deeper into the Chloe’s roots as a half Indian. And it will be a substantial experience, too- in their panel just now, Naughty Dog confirmed that Uncharted: Lost Legacy will be a fairly beefy standalone Uncharted 4 expansion.

It is slated to be longer than The Last of Us: Left Behind, but it won’t be quite as long as Uncharted 4 itself. Also, the trailer earlier today was from the beginning of the game. The story will also be set after the events of Uncharted 4, technically making this a sequel of sorts.

It will be tonally different Uncharted game but within the context of Uncharted series and will be heavily geared towards Chloe and finding a certain treasure. It’ll be interesting to see what Chloe, whose presence was sorely missed in Uncharted 4, is up to. Uncharted 4: The Lost Legacy, will be made available exclusively on the PS4 sometime in the future.

April Cover Revealed – Uncharted: The Lost Legacy

For nearly a decade now, we’ve experienced high stakes, adrenaline-fueled adventures from Nathan Drake’s perspective. With his story wrapped up, Naughty Dog is focusing on a fresh thief in a new standalone expansion out this year: Uncharted: The Lost Legacy. Stepping out of the shadows and into her own adventure is fan-favorite Chloe Frazer. The Lost Legacy delves into Chloe’s backstory and heritage, sending her to the mountains of India, all in the name of the highly valuable Tusk of Ganesh. The treasure could give her the fame and recognition she’s been seeking.

However, Chloe can’t do it alone. She must make an unlikely alliance with Nadine Ross, the Drake brothers’ adversary from Uncharted 4. Chloe and Nadine are both independent self-preservationists, making their coalition challenging. Can the two put their differences aside long enough to come out on top? Together they scale statues, visit temples, drive through gunfire, and get up close and personal with a dangerous villain also after their mark.

The latest issue of Game Informer has revealed some interesting new information about The Lost Legacy:

  • Originally, the game was going to be a Sam & Sully story but Naughty Dog said that age was “too much of a limiting factor”.
  • A Sully origin story was also considered before the Nadine and Chole story. Drake’s story has been told and there isn’t much left to do with his past.
  • The game will answer the questions of why Nadine is a solo mercenary, and what happened to the treasure in Uncharted 4.
  • The standalone will be set entirely in India.
  • The main villain is a mercenary and philosopher named Asev.
  • Chole has an inferiority complex in the game as she wants to be as famous as Drake.
  • Chloe was raised Hindu, and is very knowledgeable about Indian history. Naughty Dog have stated that they are going to extreme lengths to make sure the game is respectful to Hindu culture and history.
  • One of the biggest themes in the games story will be how can Chloe and Nadine co-exist with each other; the two characters are notorious for not trusting anyone which will make for an interesting story.
  • Naughty Dog also stated that while they are both very different in their backgrounds, they are both ruthless and driven in their own ways.

As for the gameplay side of the standalone:

  • Chloe can’t climb as well as Drake and has no knowledge of martial arts so she will use attacks that stun, evades and uses her reflexes.
  • The Lost Legacy will be very puzzle heavy but won’t use the crate puzzles. The puzzles alternate from brainteasers to environmental puzzles.
  • The rope from Uncharted 4 will also be in The Lost Legacy, along with a silenced pistol.
  • There will also be a multiplayer mode, which will directly connect to Uncharted 4’s multiplayer & survival co-op.
  • Like Drake has a journal, Chloe has a phone.

Outside of the PSX reveal last December, The Lost Legacy has remained shrouded. We visited Naughty Dog’s studio in Santa Monica, Calif., to get the lowdown, seeing two new areas and chatting with the team about its approach to this new adventure. Anticipate everything we’ve come to expect and love about Uncharted: big set pieces, close calls, and a roller-coaster ride of a story. This time it’s about much different thieves, though – ones who aren’t always on the side of good. What will this journey teach them about each other and themselves?

[h=1]Nathan Drake won’t appear in Uncharted: The Lost Legacy[/h]
[h=2]He’s busy on the beach[/h]

Uncharted: The Lost Legacy, the upcoming Uncharted side story starring Chloe Frazer and Nadine Ross, won’t feature an appearance from series protagonist Nathan Drake, according to a preview of the game on the PlayStation Blog.
“We’re not going to touch on Nathan Drake in this, at all,” said Kurt Margenau, game director on The Lost Legacy.

That approach makes sense for The Lost Legacy, which developer Naughty Dog is pitching as a stand-alone tale in the Uncharted universe. The game spotlights two women whom we’ve only gotten to know in terms of how they relate to Nathan Drake. The Lost Legacy focuses on Chloe’s own treasure hunt: her search for an Indian artifact called the Tusk of Ganesh. She enlists the help of Nadine, who is recently unemployed — her mercenary company, Shoreline, has gone belly-up after the events of Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End.

It also makes sense for Nate to sit out The Lost Legacy because of Naughty Dog’s repeated statements about the studio’s work on the Uncharted series ending with this spinoff. Naughty Dog co-president Evan Wells told Game Informer in a recent interview that it would be “unlikely” for the company to make another Uncharted game. And after all, Naughty Dog sent Nate off to live out a peaceful seaside existence with his family at the end of Uncharted 4.

“We entertained a few possible ideas around including Nate as a secondary character,” said writer Josh Scherr about The Lost Legacy. “But everything we did felt superfluous because we tied it all up with Uncharted 4.”

Instead, Naughty Dog is focused on expanding the scope of The Lost Legacy in ways that the time pressures of Uncharted 4’s development schedule didn’t allow, according to the PlayStation Blog. The studio is building on the wide-open Madagascar chapter of Uncharted 4 — see our pre-release preview for a deeper look at that languidly paced sequence — with “the biggest [area] ever for an Uncharted game” in one particular level, said Margenau.
Uncharted: The Lost Legacy will be released later this year exclusively on PlayStation 4. For more on the game, check out the reveal from PlayStation Experience 2016.

Naughty Dog director of communications Arne Mayer has hinted that The Lost Legacy will be over ten hours long.

Back when Naughty Dog announced Uncharted: The Lost Legacy, it claimed it would be the "biggest expansion yet" for the franchise, and now, thanks to a hint dropped by Naughty Dog director of communications Arne Mayer, we have a bit of a ballpark of exactly how big it will be. In an interview with IBtimes, Mayer suggested that the game will be over ten hours long.Years ago, when we were asked if we were ever doing a single player expansion for Uncharted we always said, 'Well, we don't have the self-discipline to do that'. If we tried to do that we'd create a full game," Mayer said."There's no way we could, sort of, constrict and restrain ourselves, and that's exactly what was happening here. When we were doing story pitches, we were coming up with a game that would be over ten hours long and so we suddenly realized everything we said was true and we couldn't keep it short."Naughty Dog had previously stated that the DLC would be much longer than The Last of Us' Left Behind expansion, which clocked in at around three hours.

The Lost Legacy stars Chloe Frazer and Nadine Ross, who appeared in previous games in the franchise. It is set in India and sees Chloe hire mercenary Nadine "in order to recover a fabled ancient Indian artifact and keep it out of the hands of a ruthless war profiteer."Uncharted: The Lost Legacy is expected to be released later in 2017, exclusively for PlayStation 4.
