Uncharted 4 Will Still Be A Light-Hearted Romp

Naughty Dog has been recently praised left and right in the whole industry (and beyond) for [COLOR=#998F00 !important]The Last of Us, which definitely has a darker plot than usual for the studio; after all, previously Naughty Dog has been known for games such as Crash Bandicoot, Jak & Daxter and even Uncharted.
Some may be concerned that the grim approach could slip into Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End, but Naughty Dog’s Co-President Evan Wells reassured everyone in a lenghty interview to Eurogamer, noting that the experience gathered while developing The Last of Us will be mainly useful in regards to the technical standpoint, rather than anything story related.

Uncharted is a completely different franchise, and appeals to its audience for completely different reasons. I don’t think The Last of Us marks a new direction in tone that all of our future games are going to take on. We’d alienate a lot of our Uncharted fans. We want to keep it a light-hearted romp. I think from a technical standpoint we’ve learnt some things from the Last of Us that will feed into Uncharted – in fact it strengthens our desire to keep them distinct.

Uncharted 4 Will Be “More Personal”

In an interview with MCV, Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End co-director Neil Druckmann spoke about how the game will give players a closer look at who Nathan Drake is as a person:

We’ve learned a lot about how we tell stories through interactivity with The Last of Us and there are lessons that we’re applying to Uncharted 4.
It’s about finding that right balance for Uncharted–it’s definitely not going to be The Last of Us. But we are trying to make it more personal this time and see how much we can delve into who Nathan Drake really is, and what kind of effect this journey has on him and the people around him.

While the game will be more personal it won’t be as dark as The Last of Us, considering that game is set in a zombie apocalypse we believe him. Druckmann continued to explained that A Thief’s End will retain the franchise’s “summer movie blockbuster” feel:

We know Uncharted is about fun, charming characters and set pieces, and you’re going to see that, too. You’ll see an evolution of that and how we mirror those set pieces to the narrative. That’s our challenge.

Considering that in Uncharted 3: Drake’s Deception we already got a closer at Nate, Druckmann’s comments are very intriguing. Could it be that in between games Nate has changed as a person? Let us know what you think in the comment section.

News on Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End are still quite sparse, but today we get a glimpse on the game’s cast thanks to the Linkedin profile of CBS Television Studios actor Warren Kole.Kole mentions working as a voice actor with Naughty Dog since July this year.Apparently he’s also taking on motion capture, as he tweeted a picture of himself wearing a mocap suit, to which Game Director Neil Druckmann responded tongue in cheek “pretty damn good, 1st timer.”

The voice and performance capture role definitely seems to be for Uncharted 4: A Thief End, since story-based work on The Last of Us has come to an end. The studio has another game in the worls, but it’s still in early development, so it’s very unlikely that any voice work is currently being done for it.Kole’s most relevant role is probably as Wes Mitchell in CBS’ TV series Common Law, while he performed roles in several feature films and series like The Avengers, 24, NCIS: Los Angeles, The Following and White Collar. At the moment there’s no information on what character he plays in Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End.

Like I said in my last post, these screens are comparing different locations from the game. It looks exactly the same in the final build. Of course, you wouldn't know because you've never played either game.

Kindly refrain from posting invalid comparisons that were proven wrong ages ago.
