Having driven some really fast cars on track, the Xbox controller always felt like a toy whenever I use it for racing games and was looking for a good setup which can give me the track feel (at least similar or close) at home.
Looked around, read reviews and finally ended up with the following items:
1. Playseat Evolution Top Gear Edition
2. Mad Catz Pro Racing Force Feedback Wheel and Pedals
Unboxing pics first and then check the review at the end.
The Playseat is very comfortable and have the same feel as the real racing seats. The mounts are very flexible and pretty much any wheel can be mounted using several optional holes on the wheel and pedal base. Even though I initially assembled with pedals base but later removed it as the Mad Catz racing pedals directly fit on the Playseat instead of fitting on the pedal mount which means less parts to mess around.
The Mad Catz racing wheel and pedals have a very professional sturdy look and not cheap like the Thrustmaster Ferrari wheels. The wheel is hard quality aluminum covered with genuine suede leather which was a good surprise. There are helical gears and dual motors which provide an excellent feedback and you can not only feel the road but can also enjoy the realistic feedback resistance on every bump and turn. The reviews I read online said otherwise and pretty much every review complained of low vibrations and non-existence feedback but there is a new firmware out which I installed right after installing the wheel which fixes the low feedback and now you can enjoy the wheel optimally.
The pedals have independent coil over springs which can be adjusted to personal preference. Pretty much everything can be adjusted and customized which is a huge plus and would satisfy everybody. Not to forget several ways to mount the wheel to your legs, desk or a dedicated race seat like this one.
I played Forza 5 / Forza Horizon 2 and the setup provided truly immersive experience. This setup is close to what you can expect to experience in a race car on track. I had the Microsoft XBOX360 racing wheel which was just ok and I have used the Thrustmaster 458 Italia Wheel for XBOX ONE but the MadCatz setup is no doubt simulation grade which when mounted on a Playseat turns your room into a virtual racing zone.
PS. I still think that my car looks better than the one in Forza
