Johnny Depp is in negotiations to star in Wally Pfister's Transcendence for Alcon. 

The film, written by Jack Paglen, will mark the Inception cinematographer's directorial debut.

Depp will receive a mammoth payday for the role, $20 million against 15 percent of the gross, sources say.

The story centers on a man who creates a computer that develops a malevolent awareness. Depp will play a husband who gets sucked into the computer, contingent on changes Pfister is making to the script, sources say.

And the executive producer is none other than Christopher Nolan! Who else is stoked?

The ever creepy Cillian Murphy joins a cast including Johnny Depp, Morgan Freeman and Rebecca Hall for the Wally Pfister feature.

Cillian Murphy is the latest star to sign onto Transendence, the forthcoming sci-fi film from celebrated cinematographer Pfister, known for his work on the likes of Moneyball and multiple Christopher Nolan titles including Inception and The Dark Knight trilogy, which funnily enough – featured both Freeman and Murphy.

Depp stars as a computer scientist who figures out a way to upload his thoughts onto a computer, therefore transcending the abilities of a human. Depp’s character comes under attack by anti-technology terrorists, who aim to stop a world in which computers outnumber and are smarter than their real life counterparts.

In addition to Freeman, Hall, Murphy and Depp, Paul Bettany (A Beautiful Mind, The Da Vinci Code) and Kata Mara (American Horror Story, House of Cards) will also co-star. Transendence will be released on 25th April 2014.
