Ok first of all,Iam not an active member of PG.But I have used almost all of the DSL connections available in karachi,so a quick guide to connections could be useful for someone planning to get a dsl connection installed.I will tell my experiences with each one separately;

Wi-tribe:

Wi-tribe is basically aimed at those who are young at heart.I had installed it for a month or so.The speed and customer dealing was nice but I was put off by the download limit which was imposed on the connections, and therefore I had to change it.I had the broadband installed, not the wireless.

Wateen:

Wateen is an OK connection, atleast for my area. The connection is consistent but the speed fluctuates.Customer service is good but they dont have any knowledge of their own connections and the technicians are the only ones that can help you if something goes wrong, not the helpline.I had it removed because of these reasons.I had it for a very brief period.

PTCL:

Believe me when I say Iam being as unbiased as I can,but this is my advice:stay away. The marketing department will get behind you until you are convinced to buy a connection, but upon buying, you are entering a trap which is very difficult to escape from. The connection will work fine and is really consistent, giving good browsing speeds. But torrent downloading speeds are extremely slow, and the service is screwey on wifi.It is a matter of luck, you will love ptcl until something goes wrong, but when it does, you are screwed. There is absolutely no customer service whatsoever from PTCL.Dont believe me?Here is a test;First, call the 0800 PTCL number for establishing a connection. You will most probably be answered on the first call. Now,try dialing their help line number 1218.See what happens. The worst part is that you cant even terminate the connection that easily. You see,PTCL is the company that serves us landline.Unlike any other dsl provider,if you screw around with it,it can cut off your phone line. And if you want to cut your connection or amend it,there is no door to door service. You have to go to their office and get it done. Please pass on this one.

Worldcall:

The best DSL provider in my opinion. Its not perfect, but its better then the competition.Sure, you pay 1100 rupees for a 512 kbps connection, but what you get with it is what every other connection lacks;Excellent customer service.I had been a loyal customer of worldcall for about 1 and a half year, but I felt like i should switch over to ptcl since they have better rates.Boy did i make a mistake.Worldcall provides consistent net speed on all times, though the connection might fluctuate in the rain or other weather connections. If you get any problem with the connection, the WC staff provides door to door service for you convenience. All in All a great connection.

Thats it from my side guys. Please note I was just stating a personal opinion and some may differ in their opinions.I tried to be as unbiased as possible but its hard,as these are based on my personal experiences.

I've been using PTCL since they launched their broadband service, and have no problems with speed, torrents or otherwise.

However, I do agree that their customer support is abysmally bad and in dire need of improvement.

I have had issues with my broadband connection only twice during the last 3 or so years. The first time around, I called up PTCL daily, only to be promised they would send a technician over and solve my issue within 24 hours. After 22 calls on 22 consecutive days (I'm persistent), a guy finally showed up. I was not pleased.

The second problem is a current issue. I have called PTCl 8 times over the last month. Again, they always promise a solution within 24 hours. 30 days and counting, and my issue is yet to be resolved.

I'm at a loss as to why PTCLs customer service is SO bad. Are they understaffed? Or is their staff just lazy, because they feel they're going to get paid anyway?

Well now a dys, the speed issues on wateen are resolved especially on torrents by my self not by wateen, and now i always get more then 100+ speed any time of the day or nite, per ajj kal wateen is sucking it vry badly, due to poor signals. I used to get 100% percent signals but for now those singnals are not worth it.

But lyk the other PPL said...PTCL rockz....and i was their almst 1st customer when they launched their broadband. ..and had np at all. But faced sum problems of my own copper line, not from their end.

PTCL is a hit or miss type of thing. Most of the time it works flawlessly, but IF any problem does arise then you're screwed most of the time.

PTCL aj kal lagwana hi sar mia dard kaam hia. They are all on strike! It took the linesman 1.5 weeks to get to my house and fix the line, and even then he came independently, not sent by PTCL...!

Hit or miss indeed.
