[h=2]Pokémon Go’s latest glitch is changing players' Pokémon after they’re caught[/h][h=3]Catching 'em all just got weird[/h]

Pokémon Go players are reporting a bizarre bug with the game’s most recent update — one that transforms caught Pokémon into a different species altogether.
The video below, shared earlier today to the Pokémon Go subreddit, shows this strange process in action. The glitch seems to happen at random, as does the type of Pokémon that catches are changed into when it occurs. Players who have had it happen to them had said that it’s happened on numerous occasions over the past 24 hours or so, however.

Sometimes this works out in players’ favor. One poster said that his high-powered Caterpie became a Charizard after it was caught. Others, however, have seen their Bulbasaur or other, more desirable monsters changed into common catches like Rattata.
This bug follows the recent "three-step" glitch as Pokémon Go’s most aggravating problem. That issue, which had all nearby Pokémon listed as three footprints away, effectively rendering the tracking system useless, was "fixed" recently by removing footprints altogether.
Players were less than pleased with that and other changes made to the game, and Niantic announced this morning that it was working to re-implement the feature.

[h=2]Faking legendary Pokémon in Pokémon Go is easier than you'd think[/h][h=3]Why players refuse to believe that an Articuno was found in Ohio[/h]

https://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=u7JwCaEb_bg

There are a handful of Pokémon that no player has legitimately caught yet in Pokémon Go — but that hasn’t stopped some from attempting to stake their clams as the proud owners of the elusive Mewtwo, Ditto and legendary birds.
The Pokémon Go community’s latest mystery revolves around the ice-type Articuno, with most insisting that a player’s so-called catch is a ruse. Last night, screenshots of an Articuno stationed at a gym in Ohio made the rounds on social media and Reddit, with owner Kait Covey claiming that Niantic gifted her the rare Pokémon. Without pictures of a Pokédex, however, players called foul. (Videos allegedly of Articuno in-game have since appeared from other users, but those too have been rejected by Pokémon Go collection referees.)

Articuno deniers are doing more than calling fellow trainers liars, however. They’re instead pointing out just how players fake legendaries using PhotoShop, client-side skins and other methods to make it seem like they’ve got some special Pokémon in their Pokédexes.
These include the Pokémon Go MITM Proxy, a tool for the computer programming savvy to alter the game’s data at will. The proxy allows players to make it so that every time they happen upon a Pokémon — say, Pikachu — their phone screens will show a different one, like Articuno.
That’s how one player made a convincing video of Mewtwo appearing in-game. With the help of the proxy and some modeling software, a Redditor managed to dupe major YouTubers like Trevor "Tmartn" Martin into believing that Mewtwo had been caught.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=Ikp5eGCz8-Q

Another user tricked Pokémon Go players last week by posting videos of Mewtwo, Ditto and Zapdos. Shortly thereafter, he admitted that the catches weren’t real, breaking down the process behind creating them. The 20-minute video at the top shows how he used user FrozenAquaCat used some Adobe suite trickery to create the 3D models of the rare Pokémon. None of what was said to be captured from his phone was ever even on his device; the player simply recreated the game’s backdrop on his computer and put the characters in motion with Adobe Premiere.

While Kait Covey and other alleged Articuno owners are sticking to their stories, it makes sense that players are skeptical. Pokémon Go has revolutionized catching Pokémon — and made it possible to create them from thin air, too.

[h=2]Some Pokémon Go players accidentally ended up with legendary Pokémon[/h][h=3]But no one has an Articuno anymore[/h]

Pokémon Go’s weirdest controversy to date appears to have come to an end: Niantic has removed legendary Pokémon from certain players’ collections, meaning there are no Pokémon Go trainers out there with one of the rare finds.
"We recently noticed that a few Legendary Pokémon got into a few accounts when they shouldn’t have," a representative for the developer told Polygon. "To preserve the game’s integrity and as a measure of fairness, we have rectified the situation and revoked the legendary Pokémon from the trainers’ accounts."

This invites as many questions as it answers, but we’ll start with what we know. The statement comes as a response to an Ohio player’s assertion that she’d caught the legendary bird Pokémon Articuno, a feat many of the most dedicated Pokémon Go community members thought impossible. Kaitlyn Covey and her mythical catch became stuff of Pokémon Go legend in just hours, largely due to how hard she worked to refute allegations that her achievement was a ruse.
Her screenshots appeared convincing, but those aren’t hard to fake; an email allegedly sent to Covey from Niantic misspelled the legendary Pokémon in question’s name as "Articundo." She later co-opted that spelling for a livestream in which she and another player claimed to demonstrate the captured Articuno in real time.
Niantic’s statement suggests that all of this was faked and confirms that Covey can’t possibly have an Articuno in her game at present. An earlier statement given to Geek.com seemed to confirm that Covey's Articuno was the result of a hack. (Covey has yet to respond to any of Niantic's comments.) The developer neglected to mention exactly when trainers’ legendaries were taken away, however. We also don’t know which ones were let loose, or for how long, or to whom.
Regardless, all signs point to Pokémon Go’s legendary Pokémon remaining untamed and undiscovered. Pokémon Go, for all of its issues, continues to provide bountiful mysteries.

Is Pokémon Go out in Venezuela?
Yes! Pokémon Go is live as part of a larger Central and South American rollout on Aug. 4.
[h=2]Africa[/h][h=4]Is Pokémon Go out in Egypt?[/h]No. We imagine, once it does, plenty of tourists will get sick of finding just Sandshrew near the pyramids.
[h=4]Is Pokémon Go out in Nigeria?[/h]No. Africa’s most populous country is out of luck for now. Pokémon Go will be a fun distraction during all that endless traffic in Lagos, though.
[h=3]The Middle East[/h][h=4]Is Pokémon Go out in the United Arab Emirates?[/h]No. Dubai is getting a pretty rad virtual reality arcade, though, which should help with the wait.
[h=4]Is Pokémon Go out in Saudi Arabia?[/h]No. The game hasn't made it to the Middle East yet.
[h=3]Ugh. When is my country getting Pokémon Go?[/h]As you can tell, the answer to a lot of these availability questions is "no" for the time being. Niantic Labs hasn’t been giving us much of a heads up before launching the game in a new territory, so it’s hard to know for sure when those left out of the phenomenon right now will be able to participate. Asian and more European countries are expected to receive the game soon, but for those on other continents, feel free to live vicariously through our Pokémon Go guides and coverage, found below.

[h=2]Pokémon Go bug is making it way harder to catch Pokémon[/h][h=3]A fix is on its way[/h]

Pokémon Go is suffering from a frustrating bug that makes the process of catching Pokémon even tougher. A tweet from the game’s official social media account confirmed that players’ reports of increased difficulty in throwing Poké Balls and occurrences of Pokémon escaping encounters is the result of a bug, and developer Niantic is working to fix it.
Since the game’s recent big update, many have found their throws curving more often than before. That’s enough to make capturing Pokémon trying, but the bug also makes it more likely that Pokémon break free from Poké Balls that do land. Niantic also said that the glitch has been denying players of their experience bonuses with successful captures.

Niantic told players to watch out for an inbound patch. Earlier this week, the developer opened up about many of the community’s other complaints about the game following a weekend firestorm that saw popular third-party mapping sites shutting down and the game’s nearby tracking system being dismantled.
This week alone has seen several strange glitches within the game, like one where captured Pokémon change species at random. Pokémon Go, for all of its problems, remains a popular title — although it’s no longer sitting at the top of the iOS App Store charts. Today, the game was replaced by the Snapchat-esque Bitmoji app, popular with the tween crowd.

[h=2]Pokémon Go dev honoring requests to disable the game in inappropriate places[/h][h=3]Hiroshima Peace Memorial Park is not a PokéStop[/h]

After weeks of complaints from historical sites and other sensitive locations, Pokémon Go developer Niantic Labs has begun honoring requests to shut down the game in places where one might consider it gauche to hunt for Pokémon.
This past weekend, the city of Hiroshima, Japan, held its 71st annual memorial service for the victims of the atomic bomb that the U.S. dropped on the city in 1945. The Associated Press reports that Hiroshima officials had asked Niantic to remove Hiroshima Peace Memorial Park from Pokémon Go before the weekend.

"We consider the park a sacred place where we pray for the victims of the atomic bombings," city official Tatsumi Sumida told the AP.

Although PokéStops and Gyms disappeared by Thursday, people were still able to find and catch Pokémon in the park. The city did not receive confirmation from Niantic until 1:56 a.m. Aug. 6 — the day of the memorial ceremony — that the pocket monster menace was gone from the area.
Shortly after Pokémon Go’s launch a month ago, solemn places like the U.S. Holocaust Memorial Museum in Washington, D.C., and the Arlington National Cemetery in Virginia began asking visitors to stop playing the game.
"We do not consider playing ‘Pokemon Go’ to be appropriate decorum on the grounds of [Arlington National Cemetery]," the organization wrote on Twitter. Niantic has since disabled Pokémon Go at the Holocaust Museum, according to the AP.
In a statement to Polygon, Niantic said that anybody who runs any private property, or a place that might serve as a "potentially inappropriate PokéStop or Gym," can request removal on the game’s support website. The company added that it is "moving quickly to review all such requests."

[h=2]Pokémon Go developer confirms it’s banning cheaters[/h][h=3]Don’t let the door hit ya[/h]

Pokémon Go developer Niantic Labs is now issuing permanent bans to players whose accounts "show clear signs of cheating," the company said in a blog post last night.
"After reviewing many reports of in-game cheating, we have started taking action against players taking unfair advantage of and abusing Pokémon Go," said Niantic. "Moving forward, we will continue to terminate accounts that show clear signs of cheating."

The official notice from Niantic comes approximately one week after developers of Pokémon Go bots began reporting that they had received cease-and-desist letters from the studio. Groups like Necronomicon, the operator of a Pokémon Go bot called NecroBot, preemptively shut down their software in response to those reports.
Since the debut of Pokémon Go in early July, there have been countless reports of players using bots to cheat while playing the game. The bot software generally uses a technique called GPS spoofing — simulating the act of walking around by sending faked GPS coordinates to Pokémon Go’s servers. Bots promise cheaters the ability to catch Pokémon without ever setting foot outside and thereby power-level their accounts. The cheating threatened to ruin the game for legitimate players.
"Our main priority with Pokémon Go is to provide a fair, fun, and legitimate game experience for all players," said Niantic. "If our system has determined that you cheated, then you will receive an email stating that your account has been terminated."
Niantic has reportedly been issuing temporary "soft bans" — a situation in which players can still get into the game but are unable to actually do anything in it — since early in the life of Pokémon Go. However, the company apparently began permanently banning cheaters last week. Using bots or other unauthorized third-party software is a clear violation of the game’s terms of service, although players who feel their accounts have been "terminated incorrectly" can appeal their ban to Niantic.

[h=1]Pokemon Go ‘Buddy System’ Revealed; Game Hits $440 Million Mark[/h]

Since its official release just under two months ago, Pokemon Go has become nothing short of an international phenomenon, with wannabe trainers all over the world bumping into things as they hunt for virtual Pokemon in the real world. The app quickly became more downloaded than Tinder and despite experiencing a 22% drop in active players since launching, Pokemon Go is continuing to experience massive success compared to other mobile games and apps.
Despite its obvious popularity, players have noticed a number of gameplay features that developers Niantic could improve upon in order to deliver a more rewarding experience. These suggestions include removing the ability to snipe an empty gym after another trainer has defeated it, introducing trading between players and including a more innovative way of leveling-up or evolving your Pokemon. Whilst Niantic have already confirmed the addition of inter-trainer trading, it seems as if a solution to the leveling-up issue will be addressed first.
According to Pokemon Go Hub, a ‘Buddy system’ has been data-mined from the latest version of the app, indicating that Niantic will be introducing the feature in the near future. The Pokemon Go Buddy system will work in a similar way to the egg-hatching system where you walk a defined distance in order to hatch your egg. However, instead of applying to unborn creatures, the Buddy system applies to ones that you already own.

Trainers will effectively be able to ‘walk’ a Pokemon of their choice and doing so will reward them with that Pokemon’s candy, an item which can be used for both leveling-up and evolution. Only one Pokemon can be walked at any time and there will likely be a limit to how much candy can be obtained per day in order to prevent more athletic trainers from becoming too overpowered. It seems players will also have the added pleasure of their Buddy Pokemon appearing alongside them on the game screen, with some walking next to you, flying near you or even resting on your shoulder in the style of Ash Ketchum’s famous Pikachu.
Although the addition could be seen as just another form of grinding, the Buddy feature does give Pokemon Go players more control as to how quickly their Pokemon grow, instead of having to wait for the required Pokemon to appear, only for it to run away after it kindly wastes half your ball supply. Like the egg feature, the Buddy system will also give the game an added purpose during those periods where Pokemon aren’t appearing or when you’ve run out of balls and can’t find a Pokestop.

In other news, it has been reported by SensorTower that Pokemon Go has generated a total of $440 million in its short lifespan thus far, with over 180 million downloads across the world, equating to $4 million per day. This means Niantic have amassed a net revenue of $308 million, a figure greater than what some of this summer’s blockbusters achieved. The app has been installed by over 12% of U.S. smartphones and achieves an average daily usage-time of 32 minutes, a number that has remained more or less constant since the app was first released.
Whether you think Pokemon Go is an innovative and fun game that encourages people to be active or simply a passing fad that makes people crash their cars and chase things that don’t exist, it doesn’t seem as if the app is going to disappear any time soon. The Buddy system and other scheduled updates, which include the eventual addition of generation two Pokemon, demonstrate that Niantic are certainly planning for the long-term – and the added content should keep players entertained and coming back for more.
If the game can iron out its kinks and remove some of the more punishing elements of gameplay, there’s little indication that the Pokemon Go phenomenon will have disappeared by the end of the year. However, the world of mobile gaming is a fickle business and even successful apps like Candy Crush and Flappy Bird have a limited shelf life, with the latter proving that without constant new content, gamers will quickly move on to the next hot app.

Pokemon Go
is available now for both iOS and Android mobile devices.

[h=2]Sony CEO, citing Pokémon Go, says they're 'aggressively' pushing into mobile gaming[/h]

Sony, eyeballing Nintendo's success with Pokémon Go, is "aggressively getting into" mobile gaming, chief executive Kaz Hirai said.
"It's quite a shift from being just a console-based business to being on mobile phones as well," Hirai told the Financial Times at the IFA consumer electronics expo in Berlin.

Hirai's comments highlight another console maker's acceptance of the inevitability of mobile device gaming as a necessary platform. Nintendo had been resistant for years to investor demands to push into the mobile space, relenting this year with Miitomo, a social networking app, and then breaking through with Pokémon Go.
It should be noted, however, that Nintendo is a part owner of the company that publishes the game, not its sole publisher or developer, and the Pokémon Go Plus premium device it will sell for the app has yet to hit shelves.
Sony has had a handheld presence since the PlayStation Portable launched 12 years ago, and dabbled in platforms like the PSP Go and its Xperia line of smartphones. Its mobile device presence, however, has been limited to things like companion applications for the PlayStation Network and titles like Run Sackboy! Run! which apply Sony franchises to standard mobile game genres like endless runners.
An analyst pointed out to FT that Sony's strategy with regard to mobile has to date been less about making money from these apps and more about using them to sell more consoles (or handsets) and games on them. That's due to change. In March, Sony Computer Entertainment established ForwardWorks Corporation, which will make apps for mobile devices based on PlayStation games and characters.
Meanwhile, Sony has curtailed all first-party development for its PlayStation Vita, even ending the porting of the MLB The Show series to the device.

[h=2]Pokémon Go update on the way, adds Buddy Pokémon[/h][h=3]Support for Pokémon Go Plus also included.[/h]

The Pokémon Go update that will deliver the highly anticipated Buddy Pokémon feature is underway, Niantic reported yesterday.
When it arrives, users may select a Buddy Pokémon from any of the monsters in their collections. The buddy will offer "unique in-game rewards and experiences," according to Niantic's explanation. One example is the awarding of candies (used to evolve or strengthen trainers' existing Pokémon) for walking a certain distance with the buddy.

Neither the iOS App Store nor the Google Play Store in North America show the new versions available for download yet.
The update, which is 0.37.0 for Android and 1.7.0 for iOS, will also introduce Pokémon Go Plus support. The peripheral is due to launch on Sept. 16. Nintendo, the maker of the $34.99 peripheral, originally planned to launch it in July but at the end of that month pushed the date to September.

[h=1]Pokémon Go players want refunds after update leaves rooted phones behind[/h]
[h=2]Got a jailbroken phone? No Pokémon for you[/h]

Niantic warned users ahead of Pokémon Go’s latest update that the game would no longer be supporting those with jailbroken, rooted or unlocked phones. That didn’t stop players excited to choose a buddy Pokémon from crying out after updating yesterday, only to find that Pokémon Go has ceased to support their devices.
"This device, OS, or software is not compatible with Pokémon Go," reads the message that now greets a swath of trainers, who also happen to have jailbroken smartphones. Unless they revert back to version of the game prior to the 0.37.0 update, Pokémon fans have no way to progress past this screen.
Victims of this update are retaliating with their wallets, according to Reddit. One user of a highly upvoted thread detailed his experience going through Google customer service in order to get a refund for his Pokémon Go in-app purchases.
Blocking users 2 months in is "completely unscrupulous," some say

"I wouldn’t have had a problem with [the update booting jailbroken/rooted/unlocked phones] if they blocked rooted users from launch," original poster GnothiSeauton said of Niantic. "However, doing it 2 months into the [game] show after rooted users have invested time and money into the game, is completely unscrupulous."
This form of protest has a questionable success rate as is, but it’s only applicable to folks who spent money on the free-to-play game. For everyone else, there doesn’t seem to be much hope.
Barring tweaked smartphones from Pokémon Go falls along the lines of Niantic’s over measures to increase security and diminish cheating. But as many posters on Reddit have mentioned, people often root their phones for other reasons; Android users in particular commonly bust their devices open to make them more customizable. Many people also buy unlocked phones to circumvent carrier fees or other charges.

There are workarounds for Android users, detailed on various forums and sites. One popular method uses an additional program to give players access back into Pokémon Go, but it's added trouble for users who just want to get catching and bonding.
With Pokémon Go facing a possible resurgence — buddy Pokémon is an exciting new feature, and the Pokémon Go Plus peripheral is already in high demand before its release on Friday — the timing of the user ban could dampen the game’s re-entry into the cultural conversation. For anyone not negatively affected by the update, check out what’s new and what’s coming to the game this week.

[h=1]New Pokémon are coming soon to Pokémon Go, Niantic confirms[/h]

[h=2]This could be the big generation two update[/h]

Pokémon Go has big news coming Dec. 12: More Pokémon are coming to the mobile game.
Niantic Labs made the announcement this morning, along with news about a collaboration with Sprint. The announcement of new Pokémon didn't tease who would join the game, or how many, but it's widely expected to be the introduction of generation two Pokémon to the game.
Back in early November, dataminers discovered references to Pokémon numbered 152 through 251 in the Pokédex, setting the stage for their arrivals.
Additionally, Niantic announced a partnership with Sprint that will turn more than 10,000 Sprint locations into PokéStops and Gyms. Sprint and Boost Mobile stores and Radioshack also will include charging stations for players who show up to battle or gather Pokéballs.

That announcement tracks with a leak yesterday that several Starbucks locations will also become PokéStops or gyms. The leak also pointed to a new in-game item, a frappucino, which would correspond to a real-world beverage soon to be offered.
The Starbucks leak, which apparently came from an internal website for employees, also referred to a major update of numerous Pokémon coming soon. Niantic announced this summer after Pokémon Go's breakout launch that it had plans to work with corporate sponsors, much as it did for its other augmented reality game, Ingress.

[h=1]Pokémon Go’s nearby tracker undergoes another change in worldwide expansion[/h]

[h=2]Sightings and Nearby now share some space[/h]

The updated version of Pokémon Go’s local Pokémon tracker is now available to players across the globe, and with it comes some additional changes meant to appease those who didn’t love the new feature when it first launched. While Pokémon Go fans acknowledge that Niantic, the game’s developer, is listening to their complaints, the revised Nearby Pokémon tracker doesn’t seem to have squashed them all.
“To provide a better experience when searching for Pokémon in the real world, we have also made some changes to the way the Nearby Pokémon feature functions when there are only a few PokéStops in range,” the development team wrote in a blog post.
Since the Nearby tracker relies upon players having a variety of PokéStops in their vicinity to work, the update brings back a system that benefits those in more rural areas. Sightings, which replaced the Nearby Pokémon feature after Niantic disabled it for bug fixing this summer, is back on the Pokémon tracking page.
Many players have noticed that if there are only a few PokéStops nearby, they’ll have both the Nearby and Sightings headings appear to show different kinds of Pokémon in the area. Once there are more than three Pokémon near PokéStops, however, Sightings disappears again.

Sightings went away when the new Nearby tracker rolled out in some states last month, but some players are still unhappy now that it’s back. They’re frustrated that they can only view Sightings when there aren’t many Pokémon visible in the Nearby section.
“I wish they gave the option to switch between the two. I work in a place that has a high density of stops so I'm not getting Sightings,” reads a top post on The Silph Road, a major Pokémon Go Reddit community. “I don't really care that a freakin' Pidgey is close to a particular stop. I'd rather be given the choice to see what's immediately around me so that I don't miss out on an important 'mon.”
Instead, many players want a separate section for Sightings. That way, they’ll be able to see more Pokémon in the approximate area, instead of being forced to go to longer distances in search of specific spots where Pokémon reside.

In sum, it appears that Pokémon Go players are inching closer to feeling satisfied with the state of the controversial in-game tracker. Although Niantic has made amends several times over now, the company hasn’t quite perfected the heavily requested system.

[h=1]Gen two Pokémon are making their way to Pokémon Go right now[/h]

[h=2]Say hi to generation two[/h]

Pokémon beyond the original 151 can now be found in Pokémon Go, announced developer Niantic and The Pokémon Company today. Baby Pokémon like Pichu and Togepi, who made their debut in Pokémon Gold and Silver, will now pop up in the hugely popular mobile game.
Players won’t be able to catch them in the wild like the average Pokémon, however. Instead, they’ll have to visit PokéStops to collect Pokémon eggs, which may include one of the new finds when they hatch.
Niantic and The Pokémon Company named Pichu, Togepi and “select other Pokémon” as the newest additions to Pokémon Go. Players found code for the entirety of generation two — numbers 151 through 251 in the Pokédex — last month.
Also available in Pokémon Go starting now until Dec. 29 is a special Pikachu. The holiday edition of the series’ mascot can be found and caught worldwide. Both developer and publisher said that players should have no trouble finding the festive hat-wearing Pikachu during this timeframe.

[h=1]Pokémon Go’s huge new update might bring you back to the game (update)[/h]

[h=2]More Pokémon! New gameplay![/h]

[video=youtube;R04u9E5INTI]https://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=R04u9E5INTI[/video]

Pokémon Go is getting a gigantic update this week, developer Niantic has announced. A total of 80 new Pokémon from the second generation of games will begin to appear in the mobile game, along with several other new features.
Johto Pokémon, from the starter trio of Chikorita, Cyndaquil and Totodile and beyond, will now be available in the wild. To accompany the new Pokémon, Pokémon Go will also receive new evolutionary items and berries. The evolutionary items will help players complete their Johto collections, while the berries will make battles feel a little more challenging.

The Nanab Berry and Pinap Berry are the two new berry items in trainers’ arsenals. The Nanab Berry will slow Pokemon down so it’s less likely for them to run off, while Pinap Berries help players collect twice as much candy upon a successful catch.
On a more superficial level, increased customization options will be available for purchase. Trainers will be able to further customize their looks, so now not everyone will have to walk around wearing the same outfit.

This update may not introduce the long-requested multiplayer and trading features, but Pokémon Go sounds like it has at least 80 more reasons to start checking it out again. New Pokémon may not diversify the gameplay, but the additional items sound like they’ll shake things up just enough to make 2016’s biggest hit feel a bit fresher.
Update: The update is now live on both iOS and Android. Go get catching, trainers!
Also part of the update, according to the full patch notes, are specific genders for every Pokémon, a night mode map, bonus candies for catching Pokémon that are already evolved and, of course, minor text fixes.

[h=1]Niantic ‘horrified’ by Pokémon Go Fest[/h]

[h=2]“This clearly was not what we were hoping for”[/h]

In case you missed it: Pokémon Go Fest went about as poorly as it could have. Visitors who traveled from far and wide spent hours in the blistering sun, unable to play the game due to massive bugs and server errors. No one felt the heat more than Niantic, the game’s developer, which was shocked by just how much of a disaster the event was.
“Obviously they can’t completely make it up to all the people who have come out to Chicago today, but they want to extend the fact that they’re extremely apologetic and unhappy with the process and the results,” a spokesperson told a small group of press on behalf of the development team toward the end of the event. “So hopefully this is something that we will never see replicated again, learn from this and move on.”
The developer already started to make amends during Pokémon Go Fest. Attendees were frustrated — and loud about it — by their inability to play the game during the day, which led Niantic to offer compensation. First, the company promised $100 of in-game currency to all ticket holders. Not long after that, Niantic offered full refunds to everyone for their $20 wristbands.
“Just know that the staff here are pretty horrified with the results, so they want to make good as fast as possible,” the spokesperson told us, just before Niantic put out a much softer official apology on its website.
“I’m super sorry guys — I’m really sorry especially for everyone who traveled international, East Coast, from all over,” he continued telling press. “So this clearly was not what we were hoping for today. Thanks for your patience.”
At least smaller scale organized Pokémon Go events in Europe are off to a good start. A fan-run event in Chester, England saw tons of players walking around the city and catching legendary Pokémon. Chester’s event saw much fewer attendees than the Niantic-sponsored one in Chicago, but there’s still hope yet for players who want to get out and Pokémon Gotogether.

[h=1]Pokémon Go continues to make up for disastrous Fest with bonus rewards extension[/h]
[h=2]You got more time to get the goods[/h]

Bonuses unlocked as part ofPokémon Go Fest this weekend will continue to be active in the game through this Thursday. Developer Niantic announced on the game’s Twitteraccount that it’s extending the rewards — which include additional experience, items and more — for another 72 hours.
This comes on top of another lengthy extension period that’s meant to make amends forPokémon Go Fest. Players were meant to unlock the bonuses during Saturday’s outdoor event by catching enough Pokémon; doing so would make them available to all through the end of the weekend. But Pokémon Go players hardly had a chance to catch anything at all, due to major connectivity problems that shocked even Niantic.
Niantic announced during the event that it would make the bonuses available to all for a longer period of time, as a way to allow players to truly experience them. The rewards were originally meant to be live through Monday evening.
Now that the game has stabilized, players can benefit from the bonuses until 5 p.m. PT on July 27. The full list of active global rewards is below.

  • Double Stardust
  • Double Candy
  • Double experience
  • Increased Pokémon encounters
  • Reduced hatching distance
  • Reduced buddy distance

You reap what you sow. This is what happens when you take away choice from consumers. Even with 88% split going to developers, they can't recoup costs. Meanwhile, Helldivers 2 is a massive hit for Sony thanks in big part to Steam.
