A decent option for around 5K. See if you can something a bit more powerful like 16/128MB and a bit more CPU power (search other stores/used routers)/ If you can't, this should be a decent start nevertheless.
What's your current up/down speed? Depending on that the CPU power of the C20 may be enough. If you only want SQM and none of the other features (OpenVPN, DDNS, Adblocking etc.) you're good with 8/64 MB.

Need big favor guys, I'm planning to move back to PTCL, the Pings have been trash for a month on this fiber ISP. getting 220 ping in france and netherlands. Can someone download windscribe and mention the pings for France and netherlands servers. I remember on ptcl i used to get around 158 ping on G.DMT(Fast path) while the lowest i have got on this FiberLink backed ISP is around 173... Been complaining for a month and nothing has changed. I guess it's time to move back, just wanna confirm that pings are fine on PTCL's end. Please if you can mention the pings of following on windscribe that would be great... UK, Netherlands, Germany and France. Thank you again.

Are there any specific configurations to change in the router? The issue is that the wingle powers on when plugged in to the router but I want to access it's internet via the router.

no special settings i have hg150ub modem and it just worked

I see. The other option is TP-LINK C20 ARCHER 750 with 8/64MB.

if you are going to use SQM and openwrt i will suggest go for pi 4 with 1gb version and buy 32gb kingston canvas select plus card boot with in a few seconds and buy simple 2.4 router and use it with pi as slave router turn off dhcp on router and if you have extra routers laying around then go with it. much better compared to routers with only few mb of ram and it is very easy to setup. With PI 4 you will have processing power of latest wifi 6 routers that are just launching and cost like 150-200$. i made a mistake of buying 4gb version and order 2-3$ case from aliexpress with fan

you are going to use it with VDSL?

you need USB to Ethernet adapter. you can use 100mb one or 1gb one but it is expensive and use it for wan.


you need little bit of know how of Linux and using command line.

For me the PTCL is not working right now. It issues me an IP address in the range of 172.*.*.* so there's no connectivity at all. Does anyone know what could be the issue? I have registered a complaint with PTCL so hopefully they fix it soon.

maybe your modem was reset? try configuring settings again with username and password if you have it

It started working on its own, maybe because they fixed it from backend. I had registered a complaint with them. There was no issue with the router. I tried configuring it but to no avail.

They will not install VDSL unless there is significant demand for it in your area.

And if there is no VDSL in your area, and PTCL is the only option, then you've literally answered your own question.

Perhaps check how your phone line is - sometimes the line coming from the DP to your house is the reason for all mess-ups so if you can replace that, it may help a lot.

No, you'll just get charged extra as overage fees.
