Keep in mind the networks all over the world are facing strain - so foreign networks could be the culprit as well - because all the gamers and video streamers are binge watching and binge gaming.

And the non-gamers and watchers are probably doing work and video chatting from home.

And then, there's us - who have to go to work either way. Oh boy.nbe glad we're not contributing to the strain...

So I need the PPPoE and Middleware User/Pass for the PTCL Smart TV box, any lead on where I can get this so I can set it up myself?
Exchange staff can provide it. Just ask them to text it to you and you'll easily be able to do it yourself.

So guys I need some help. I am working from home for the last 2 weeks due to the pandemic. I have an office VPN setup on my work laptop and I am using PTCL GPON at home. Now the issue is the VPN connects just fine but doesnt work. I am not able to browse any of our local servers or the remote locations. It only shows connected.

However, when i try to connect the same VPN using Mobile hotspot it works fine. I tried contacting the PTCL helpline but they do not have any clue as expected. Other people from my office are using PTCL and Nayatel and are able to use the VPN without any issues.

Any help in this matter would be appreciated. PTCL helpline are helpless.

What protocol does the VPN use and does it work on any other device that is using the same PTCL connection?

What IP pool are you on and which ONT has PTCL supplied you with?

Current IP pool is 39.32.xx and the ONT is Huawei.

- - - Updated - - -

I am not sure if i would be willing to mess up the IP pool as I am getting very good pings to most servers worldwide with this pool atleast.

Log in to the ONT and enable UPnP if it is not already enabled.

Also do ask your work colleagues if they're also using the same IP pool and are able to connect.

This setting did not make any difference. Still the same. Let me try to get hold of a colleague of mine using PTCL. Mostly are on Nayatel.

So we were able to figure out the issue along with the company IT Team. It was basically the option of using the default gateway on the remote network. With alot of people connecting it never went through. So i disabled that and its working fine.

1. Netflix has servers in Pakistan, so your streaming shouldn't be slow. The start of the stream will be pixelated but it gets resolved later on.
2. If you think your international speeds are choked, do a speedtest to different international servers.

For the first point, we do have local CDNs for Netflix but not all IP pools from ptcl get routed through it for some weird reason.

I mostly get an IP from 39.63.xx.xxx and fast.com always connects me to the Amsterdam and Singapore server.

I rarely get an IP from 182.xx.xx.xxx and that one indeed routes through the local CDN.

Although this isn't a big deal if you're streaming on chrome (it's limited to 720p regardless of your subscription plan) and 1080p streams are fine as well since the stream bitrate hovers between 4-6 Mbps.
But I used to see a lot of fluctuation between 1440p and 2160p while streaming on my TV. And it was kind of annoying.

Since then I've started using a VPN and guess what I now get 70 Mbps on fast.com on a 100 Mbps connection where as originally I was getting only 6-9 Mbps.

Well - Netflix has reduced the bandwidth their servers are throwing out because of the strain on the internet globally. Secondly, while my TV doesn't go beyond 1080p (so I can't tell the difference between 1440 and 2160k), if a VPN works for you, then that's good.

I almost always get an IP from 39.x.x.x and get routed to a local server. I've even used a DNS server from another country and Netflix still puts me through a Pakistani CDN. I think they're checking which ISP you're on and then routing the traffic to that ISP's CDN since in Islamabad, Nayatel has one CDN and PTCL has another. And when I was on Nayatel, I'd get connected to the Nayatel CDN. I'm on PTCL now, and I get connected to the PTCL server. So - I think something else is up.

But if using a VPN works for you - well - be lucky since Netflix blocks VPNs.

Nah this has been happening for more than a year. And I've seen two three people complain about it here as well. It's a screw up at PTCL's end.
I haven't experienced a reduction in quality yet. Netflix still streams 4k at 16 Mbps which is the highest bitrate it provides.

Yeah Netflix recognizes most of them but a lot of VPNs still work just fine.
