*The following post may or may not contain spoilers regarding The Dark Knight Rises. Read at your own discretion*

The ending didn't really go with the Dark realistic theme but it was perfect way to close the trilogy IMO? What ending would have been perfect for you? Care to share it here?
If I knew the answer to that my friend, I wouldn't be sitting here deliberating over it. I'd be making movies :p

I'd be more than glad to point out how poor an ending it was though.

It's got the same cliched ending, the hero sacrifices himself for the greater good. It's ironic that with all the comparisons being made with The Avengers, no one has cared to point out how similar the endings were. They both involve a central character escorting a WMD of some sort as far away as possible from a largely populated area. Then they throw in a moment or two where we're holding our breath (but not really) as to whether our "hero" has survived his ordeal or not before revealing that all is indeed well. At least it fit in the Avengers because that movie never took itself too seriously. The ending was never in doubt but it was still enjoyable for what it was. Rises, although a decent movie overall, squandered most if not all of the potential given to it by The Dark Knight with such a tepid finale.

Everything just fell apart in the latter half of the movie. Plausibility went out the window the second Bruce Wayne's broken back was cured by a swift punch (remind me to do that next time someone breaks my back) and this is a series that prides itself on that fact i.e staying within the realms of plausibility. The writing was abysmal at some moments as well, lines that completely fell flat as Hammer of Thor so vividly pointed out not too long ago. And then there's the actual ending, the cherry on the top. Complete lack of gumption or any sort of of conviction on Nolan's part.

Not only does Rises fail to reach the lofty heights of its predecessors but it is an unworthy addition to the series as a whole. I'd like to say IMO but the evidence is quite overwhelming don't you agree :p ?

This is going to be spoiler filled post. Readers, be warned.

It was quite clear in this movie that Bruce Wayne had suicidal thoughts. It was like he never cared for his life especially after what happened with him in The Dark Knight. He was heart broken and regretted that he couldn't save the love of his life. So when we are near the ending, we have in our mind that he is gonna sacrifice himself. Like he had no care for his life and so he went on to become a hero by taking the nuke with him. But what actually happens is the exact opposite. That is why, it was a nice twist to see that he actually decided to live on with life instead of being depressed and killing himself.

You also have to take in the target audience for this movie. Do you honestly think that a ending where the Superhero dies will be good for a movie at Box Office. That is certainly not the case. Nolan was not only making a movie for his fans. He was also making it for the Box Office. The only reason TDKR managed to make 1.1 billion at the Box Office was because it had a "Happily Ever After" kind of ending.

At least it fit in the Avengers because that movie never took itself too seriously. The ending was never in doubt but it was still enjoyable for what it was. Rises, although a decent movie overall, squandered most if not all of the potential given to it by The Dark Knight with such a tepid finale.
The problem that i had with Avengers was, i never cared for any of the characters. Sure, it is one explosive filled fun ride, but it largely fails on one major front; which is it's characters. They are terribly written characters and unless you are really a comic book fan(Or fan of any Superhero), you aren't gonna care for any one of them. The only character i cared for was Iron Man and still him taking a bomb didn't had any sort of impact on me :p
Nolan's Batman has made me care for it's characters. I was never a Batman fan but became one after seeing Batman Begins. It certainly shows something, don't you think.

Everything just fell apart in the latter half of the movie. Plausibility went out the window the second Bruce Wayne's broken back was cured by a swift punch (remind me to do that next time someone breaks my back) and this is a series that prides itself on that fact i.e staying within the realms of plausibility.
That i do agree wholeheartedly. When Bane took over Gotham, the movie kinda became boring to say the least. Not to mention the extremely fast cuts and then the story of Batman in the Prison. That was, IMO, the most flawed part in the whole movie. Both, in term of writing and editing. I have mentioned it again and again but it really bored me to the point i was yawing through it :p. So yeh, this movie is certainly not as perfect as The Dark Knight, i have already said it in my review. But i have a big question here, how did Batman fix his back in the comics? If it was similar to this, i don't mind. If this was Nolan's own idea, it was quite bad IMO.

The writing was abysmal at some moments as well, lines that completely fell flat as Hammer of Thor so vividly pointed out not too long ago. And then there's the actual ending, the cherry on the top. Complete lack of gumption or any sort of of conviction on Nolan's part.
The ending can certainly be debated like i pointed out. The writing was definitely weaker than The Dark Knight and more close to Batman Begins. You have to keep this in mind that even though The Dark Knight was the series at it's peak, Batman Begins was what started this all. If you saw Batman Begins, you will also notice similar flaws like in The Dark Knight Rises. So taking the trilogy as a whole, it is a fantastic closure to the world established in Batman Begins IMO. (y)

Not only does Rises fail to reach the lofty heights of its predecessors but it is an unworthy addition to the series as a whole. I'd like to say IMO but the evidence is quite overwhelming don't you agree :p ?
Unworthy. Not likely. We really needed to know what happened with Batman, to the city, to the people and most importantly, how the world viewed the incident in TDK. We also needed a closure to the TDK trilogy. Despite being flawed, Nolan has managed do it. The way i see TDKR, i see it more close to BB than TDK and that's why i like it.

Watched Bronson such an epic my starring tom hardy :) I belive that because of his role in Bronson and in "Warrior" is the reason why he was offered the role of Bane in TDKR :) gonna watch Lawless soon which also stars him and shia le beouf :) and I heard the movie is prettty epic too :D

@DarkLordMalik: indeed it was more closer to BB than TDK ! :) nolan himself said that he would remove most of the aspects of TDK from TDKR not let jokers character be anywhere in the movie etc... so most of the story was indeed based on BB ! ra'as al ghul etc his story, his successor :)

Not much of a twist, it's what everyone was hoping would happen anyways. The twist would've been to go against expectations.

Alice in Wonderland made that kind of money too you know, just saying.

Well then you completely missed the point of it. They all had their separate movies for character development. As I've repeatedly said, The Avengers was more or less fan service. A straight-up, no nonsense comic-book movie and it was magnificent :p.

But i have a big question here, how did Batman fix his back in the comics? If it was similar to this, i don't mind. If this was Nolan's own idea, it was quite bad IMO.
I have no clue but I'm pretty sure it wasn't a punch to the back.

Here's an interesting article till then Ask a Doctor: Is Batman

Best part

So if someone came to you with a vertebrae sticking out of their back, you wouldn't punch it into place because you could damage the spinal cord, is that correct?
Right.

(lmao)

I said unworthy, not unneccesary :p

Obviously some kind of closure was required, no matter what kind.

1st of all , making movies need more than just answers IMO , Dollars to begin wid :D
Spoiler: show

Secondly, i fully endorse ur reviews, ending was really disappointing at places, especially it losses me fully at scene where everyone including ur highness (batman) and gordon listen fully and carefully to the dying speech of miranda , when the explosions was just a couple of minutes of away

It was quite opposite for me as being captive in prison was the part I enjoyed most. But one thing that i loathed above all, Bane was dead and thrown off the hook within a matter of secs. I mean what the hell. Half the movie they build up a character which takes a city on the verge of chaos and the very next second he is thrown out of the movie, in fact I was hoping that he will be back somewhere before the end.
However, TDKR in comparison to Avengers... Come on, are you serious? A comparison wouldn't be justified between the two.

@Omyakha: The punch in the back was probably the stupidest thing in the trilogy . There's no denying it.

Anyways, at the end of day, not everyone can enjoy each and every movie which is understandable. Everyone has different taste and preference :p. Fans wanted a closure, Nolan did it. Some critics liked it, some didn't. It made millions, end of story. It will be interesting to see what is Nolan's next project. Just curious, which is your most favorite Nolan movie.
@Lord AvaLon: Dude, we don't wanna start another Avengers VS TDKR comparison here. It has been done several times before. Let's leave it for now. :)

My favorite movie by Nolan? Easy, that'd be Memento. The way the narrative moved backwards and forwards at the same time was ingenious. Nolan had promise then, still does. I hope he goes back to directing smaller, more intimate projects again. Seeing as he's linked to the new Superman movie now though, it seems highly unlikely for the foreseeable future.

It made millions and The Avengers made more.
Fixed :p I'll shut up now.

Brilliant, simply brilliant. Visually astounding, it literally gave me goosebumps on more than one occasion. Words really cannot do justice to how staggeringly beautiful this film is. Much of the credit goes to the great use of 3D. I'm not much of a fan of 3D anymore. It's gimmicky and doesn't really add much to the movie most of the time. In the hands of a master director like a Marty Scorsese or in this case one Ang Lee, it's a different story though. They manage to come up with new and inventive ways to use the tech. Hugo had the best use of 3D tech I'd seen up till now and this is probably right up there with it.

The great thing about the movie is that you can watch it with your friends and/or family and everybody would love it. I couldn't think of a single objectionable moment throughout the film. And then there's such a wonderful moral to the story at the end. There's a fair bit of symbolism being used here so put your thinking caps on before you go into this one if you want to have a hope of understanding it all in one go. I'm still a bit unclear on some things, nothing a few more views can't fix. Even if you don't get the symbolic meaning, it's still a great adventure flick regardless. If you love movies like Forrest Gump and Castaway, this'll be right up your alley.

I'm glad I never got a chance to read the book, wouldn't have enjoyed the movie as much. Movie of the year for me, by far.

@Omyakha: The only reason i asked the question was because i knew the answer :p. See, Momento was made at a time when Nolan was complete Unknown to the Box Office. It become a cult classic but "Prestige" was the first movie which gained Nolan some recognition. So Momento was a full Nolan movie. Now when we talk about The Dark Knight Rises, we have to keep a lot of stuff in mind. As a sequel to a billion dollar movie, it had loads of expectations attached to it. If it couldn't reach the benchmark set by The Dark Knight in Box Office performance, it would have been termed as a failure on all fronts. Even if it had been a critic darling. Forget the quality of the movie, remember, it is all about the Box Office numbers. That was the case with Avengers, and it was the case with The Dark Knight Rises. Nolan has potential and he didn't fail. He was just restricted in a lot of ways.

So to summarize. The big problem with TDKR was it's prequel TDK. If TDK hadn't gained such a widespread recognition and became international sensation, TDKR wouldn't have been disappointing.

Anyways, i am now getting tired of all this discussion. You are right with some points, i am wrong with some points, let's leave it now :p.

Saw the trailer of Life of Pi. It really looked a Visually amazing movie. But i heard it is a musical, no?
