Temps go over 85 under load

hey guys.

Today i received my new POWER SUPPLY and i was doing some stress tests with *OOCT* and rest of the things looked quite normal other than temps which i think.
the temps go over 85c while under 100% seemed like problem and unusual to me.

so just wanted to ask If it happens in stress testing or its something to be worried about.
PLUS idle temps are hitting 40c and sometimes over it and i m using a intel stock cooler which i messed up a few months before having it sucking down a string but however took it out and after that constantly dealt with overheating probs but then came to know that had removed the heat sink and hadn't reapplied the thermal paste which then solved the prob but i don't have any idea if i m facing a prob or the stress test was supposed to take temps to its peak

Response is kindly requested and tremendously appreciated.

Since you're running your i3 540 overclocked @ 3.7 GHz, these extreme temperatures on extreme load are normal as you're on the Intel stock HSF. Keep in mind that these kinds of temperatures will only be seen if you run these stress testing software and under normal usage, your max temps are likely to be like 70-75 Celsius.

Thanks Bro the answer really helped out gave me some idea whats going on and what should i be worried about. and by the way my PC is not overclocked. its at its stock speed. so does this make any difference? am i not supposed to get such temps at stock speed?

But in your PC specs, your CPU is written as "Intel Core i3 540 3.7ghz". It is always better to provide as much information as possible. And yes, you're not supposed to get such temps at stock speed, but still, they're not near the TJMax i.e. 100 C, so not much to worry, even though cleaning the dust and applying thermal paste should help those temperatures and you're recommended to do so.

well about an year back my CPU fan accidently sucked in a piece of string while i was cleaning it having it turned on. and so it messed up. i had to open the STOCK FAN to put out the string and i did so and perhaps took out the entire tangled string. but i put it back on CPU without apply the thermal compound and then i was having so much hot temps even i idle state. and then i came to know thermal paste is applied i did so and i never faced the prob again. but i pointed this as a question if this old prob is messing up the thing. and as far as 3.7ghz is concerned it is the stock speed and i proved the right and complete information so people never had to ask me if it was at stock or overclocked.

My dear, 3.7 GHz is definitely not equal to 3.07 GHz.
oh i m terribly sorry i didn't realize that i was mistaken for clock speed yes certainly its 07 not 7

Almost all aftermarket coolers are better than the stock HSF, so, if you're able to get one cheap, get it. Be sure to clean the old paste and apply a new one.

85temp is abnormal even stressing cpu. I'd say stick to Stock HSF unless you're overclocking. Clean HSF and reapply thermal paste and mount it properly.

Did y'all see the new Assassin's Creed trailer? They finally made a AC set in Japan & then they put a negro as the male protagonist. Ubisoft is taking cues from Disney, and it isn't gonna end well for them, just like Disney. Go woke, go broke!
