Sony PlayStation 5 : Play Has No Limits

PS5 Release Date, PS5 Games, PS5 Power vs Xbox One X, PS5 Price Speculation - All the PS5 Info lets discuss

Here are all the rumors and speculation surrounding the PS5, including a potential PS5 release date, power, and launch games of Sony's inevitable PS5. Is the PS5 releasing in 2019?

What we Want From the PS5 Speculation aside, what would we ideally want from the PS5? Backwards compatibility for PS4 games would be brilliant, simply because you'd be able to carry over classics like the Shadow of the Colossus remake to the next console generation. We've seen how well Microsoft is handling backwards compatibility with its Xbox One consoles (including getting amazing results updating Xbox 360 games to run in 4K on Xbox One X), and something similar on PS5 would be great.

In terms of pure power, the PlayStation 5 has to significantly exceed the power of the Xbox One X. This means featuring more games running in 4K at 60FPS. If the PS5 can deliver about 10 TF of power we'd be happy, as this would allow devs to create games that look a generation ahead of what we've got now.

But what would the dream launch lineup be for the PS5? Death Stranding and The Last of Us: Part 2 are hugely anticipated blockbuster games, with the former especially looking to push the performance of whatever system it's on to the very limit. We've also mentioned Ghost of Tsushima and a sequel to Horizon Zero Dawn, and the latter would be the perfect way to kick off a new console cycle from Sony.

Says it's far from the best looking UE4 game, but doesn't mention said game. That's one approach :hah:

And now linear games are the equivalent of "limited scope and dated corridor". I remember similar issues being brought up against another classic i.e. DMC5

Gears 5 is pretty linear too outside of that one act lol, and it doesn't look as good nor is anywhere near as beautifully animated as FFVIIR.

Chandoo Are you really bragging that this demo runs on ps5 on mostly 1440p,30 fps when a rtx 2070 could run this easily and is a current gen GPU? Rumor is Ampere GPUs releasing end of the year could be well over 50% more powerful than there previous gen (Turing) GPUs. Keeping that in mind, a rtx 3060 could possibly match a frickin rtx 2080 or even surpass it. Then there's dlss 3.0, and other goodies that comes along with it.

Let's hold our judgement till both ps5 and a mid end Ampere releases at the end of the year.

chandoo didn't say anything that the creator of Unreal Engine himself didn't say brotha. Also, we're talking about cards which launched at $599. The next-gen NVidia's will also launch at similar (or maybe higher prices). Both MS and Sony are playing price-chicken with each other right now but neither of them is projected to be more than $499 or thereabouts.

There are a million factors which go into this whole discussion, the bottom line is .. those are quotes from the CEO, founder and creator of Epic and Unreal Engine, not a forum-goer such as myself

Don't expect big graphical jumps this gen. New consoles are not more than twice the power of mid-gen revisions.

SSD is fine and all, but loading into the system faster is not enough to magically enhance the graphical part of gaming.

That's what people said when last gen was on the verge of release. So when can we actually expect a "big graphical jump"?

A big leap just happened on an engine that showcased generation old lighting/physics, had no AI AND won't be available until Late 2021

No we're not. Nowhere does it say that you need 2070S as a minimum to run the demo (which did not launch at $599). The demo had no hardware based ray tracing so you can expect a 2070S equivalent GPU (GTX 1080/GTX 1070 Ti or so) for "pretty good" performance. That's a 3-4 years old GPU at this point.

Not talking about minimums. If we're strictly talking about those, my laptop 1060 will probably be able to run the demo as well. We already know Unreal 5 is backwards compatible with PS4/XBO hardware as well.

2070S is the example they used in the article which is why I'm citing that here.

Probably when we get some new more powerful architecture. You see, the jump from PS2 to PS3 was, if I am not wrong was almost 10 times. But since the hardware side is not progressing at such rapid pace now, and with mid gen revisions, you will see smaller and smaller jumps in graphical fidelity. Last gen big gimmick was 4k and we will only see it truly happening now after 3-4 years.

- Generation old technique, yes, but the quality of lighting and how it interacts with environmental surfaces is super impressive. No rays were traced during the creation of the following imagery :hah:

- AI is a non-issue, as the new consoles have competent CPUs. It's not likely to be a hurdle in most scenarios next-gen.

- Physics was not the intended showcase for this demo. The destruction seen was likely set-piece driven.

- Besides Lumen, the other primary showcase was the new virtual texturing and geometry pipeline aka Nanite. The geometric density here is unprecedented. All hail SSDs in consoles!

- No issues with it not being available until late 2021. I'm also looking forward to what in-house game engines will showcase next-gen. Decima 2.0 running Horizon 2, the Bluepoint engine running (possibly) the Demon's Souls remake, and the updated Frostbite running Battlefield 6.

I use to hear tall claims about GDDR5 ram and how it will magically load games while we sleep at night.

All this is tech jargon to entice the masses who get excited about terms like 4k and 90fps. If you have little technical background, all these things will mean nothing in Summer of 2021.

what the falooda is this ? :p

PS4 lets you 'magically' download/install games overnight or from the office using the phone app since day 1-ish, it has nothing to do with GDDR5.

You reap what you sow. This is what happens when you take away choice from consumers. Even with 88% split going to developers, they can't recoup costs. Meanwhile, Helldivers 2 is a massive hit for Sony thanks in big part to Steam.
