Set a few years after the horrifying events in the critically acclaimed Resident Evil 7 biohazard, the all-new storyline begins with Ethan Winters and his wife Mia living peacefully in a new location, free from their past nightmares. Just as they are building their new life together, tragedy befalls them once again. • First-Person Action – Players will assume the role of Ethan Winters and experience every up-close battle and terrifying pursuit through a first-person perspective. • Familiar Faces and New Foes – Chris Redfield has typically been a hero in the Resident Evil series, but his appearance in Resident Evil Village seemingly shrouds him in sinister motives. A host of new adversaries inhabiting the village will relentlessly hunt Ethan and hinder his every move as he attempts to make sense of the new nightmare he finds himself in.

Why not? The switch to first person perspective for the franchise was a great choice as far as I'm concerned. 🤷‍♂️

Demo runs silky smooth with everything maxed including RT effects at High (Low/Mid/High settings). Didn't have time to check which settings affect the fps most. Village outdoor sections seem most demanding. Castle demo runs at 100fps+ most of the time.

Native ultrawide support was a nice surprise. Variable Rate Shading is also supported but I had it switched off.

Not as scary or tense as RE7 but the atmosphere is pretty good nonetheless. Feels more action oriented.

Played a few rounds on the SX. Great stuff, but there is some real issue with the analog deadzones, people are pointing it out on Era as well and it can be fixed a bit by disabling all aim acceleration, but its still damn near impossible to turn the analog in a proper circle.

Other than that, great stuff. VRR helping out with any performance dips that my naked eye can't perceive.

The output screens come out way too dark, but the game looks better on the screen when I'm playing it using the in-game brightness calibrations. Not sure why that is.

Wait, when did I ask for the option to disable specific RT settings? I'll just turn the darn thing off and be done with it 🤣

So, the timer can be reset on PC and I tested this area. The difference here is vastly exaggerated. The calibrations seem weird in both of these screenshots.

This is what I got at the exact same calibrations while toggling RT.

The brightness calibration in the RE engine games is always incredibly finicky. You can see the two screens I've posted also come out very dark, but they seemed pretty normal and clearly visible when I was playing.

NXGamer's video probably had same kind of issues.

I had a hard time aiming with the gun, missed all my bullets! :(

Game feels like RE 4. Also, I like how Ethan sounds very animated & expressive.

I didn't see any option for third person camera. This would be ideal in 3rd person for me.

Graphics are ok if a little muted/dim on the 5th in RT HDR.

Good guy VG Tech always bringing them detailed stats (y)

A difference of 2fps in 5th percentile frame rate vs a difference of 2TF between the PS5 and Series X's GPUs' peak performance. Not bad, not bad at all.

Also (since Necrokiller likes quoting Reset Era posts lol):

All those marketing deals and demo exclusivity deals and it performs better on Series X? Yikes!
