Hey guys, as the title says I've been meaning to get a PS4 for a while now and the oppourtunity has now come. I'm conflicted though, is the Pro really worth the extra cash or am I better off just buying a base PS4? Keep in mind I have a 1080P monitor right now, might get a 2K or 4K display later down the line but I've heard unless there is HDR involved the difference in visuals is not that great. I just want the best possible experience, but for the time being I'll be gaming on a 1080P display. So what do you guys suggest? PS4 or Pro?

Better off buying the standard. It's cheaper, sells quicker in case you wanna get rid of it in a few months and if you're mainly gaming at 1080p, it's fine.

Try and get the slim if you can. It looks way nicer and the fan is much quieter than the jet engine they've got on the fat one.

Cheers, thanks for that. I suppose the jump in performance isn't worthwhile to jump to pro, then? The reason for my confusion was mostly people saying better framerates and quality. To add that, the PS4 will mostly be used to play AAA games and some exclusives.

If you're going to be playing AAA titles and exclusives, you may want the Pro then, especially if you're used to the high end PC gaming experience.

However, since I don't own one myself, I really can't say how much the beefy specs of the Pro look on a 1080p display.

The standard would still be adequate if you're not a graphics fanatic and won't lose your shit over the slightest issues like some PC gamers do.
I've had the misfortune of playing Uncharted 4 for a bit and Assassins Creed, but aside from almost dying of boredom, the graphics weren't half bad. This was on a standard PS4 and a 1080p gaming monitor.

TL;DR If you're not the nitpicky kind, just get the standard. However if you value graphics over storyline and plot, then get the Pro.

- Is this the first time you're getting a PS4 ?
- Do you have, or are you planning to get a 4K display in the near future ? Even 1080p will benefit now because PS4 Pro supports universal super-sampling.
- Are you interested in playing games exclusive to the PS4 in their best way possible ?
- Are you OK to spend a bit more over the standard PS4 ?

If the answer to the above is yes, then get a Pro. For anyone who already has a PS4, the prospect of upgrading to a Pro is good but not *that* good. But if you're buying your first PS4, then by all means, a Pro is the very easy choice.

Again, even if you have a 1080p HDTV only, the Pro now supports universal super-sampling so every game with higher resolution will now appear with SSAA and have much clearer/cleaner image quality than standard 1080p.

Appreciate the answer. Will probably go for the Pro now. On that note, what games do you guys recommend? Been out of gaming for a while now so kinda lost.
The one's I'm picking with the console would probably be UC4, GoW, FIFA, F1 2017. Any great AAA games you guys recommend?

there was old thread for this i answered it in detail but can't find it now so here it goes

  • ps4 pro gives 1080p video recording
  • ps4 pro gives better fps
  • ps4 pro gives Supersampling injection in games making games Crisp Clear on 1080p display
  • Never get 2k (1440p) monitor for consoles and movies as they work only in 1080p and 4K so 2k will make image blurry (tested it myself)
  • who ever tells u HDR makes difference and 4K doesnt is stupidest person ever
  • mostly play games on HDR off... HDR on makes game looks epic in colors but since the contrast gets to MAX u wll get blind within days (i sit for my tv like a monitor).

Cool, thanks mate. I'll be going for the PS4 Pro then in a month or two. Guess its better for future proofing as well.
