Hello there,

Right to the chase, shall we? I'm currently planning to purchase a Play Station 3.

Now I'm a casual gamer ... who doesn't really play online ... at all, if i DO go online ... its usually just to download demos and nab a few free goodies like patches and stuff.

Now the question is ... I don't want to spend a SHITLOAD of cash ... so i was wondering if there were any/major downsides to buying the old fat ps3 80GB model?

I'm planning on a long term investment here ... and i've heard the hardware on the ps3 fat is practically identical to the slim so i shouldnt worry about newer games not being able to run on the fat.

Do i get the fat? ... with perhaps a jailbreak usb and just keep it at 3.41 ... or should I bite the bullet and get the 120GB slim ... at full price? D:

Any help would be great. Basically I'm getting the little black sucker just to play GT5 ... but will keep it for stuff like resistance, killzone and uncharted :p

well ps3 is the ultimate choice by the gamer .. they have alot of plans for the future
i recommend getting a PS3 SLIM with a 40nm GPU.

why i recommend a ps3 slim
it is designed in such a way to prevent the YLOD which has occured in alot of ps3 fats , besides that the ps3 fats are old and used... u dont know how they were taken care off.
always buy a brandnew console or even any electronic item.

I second to what @wankelboy said .

Ps3 slim is just altogether a better design , it uses a 40 nm chip set compared to the fat Ps3 , which means less heat and less heat means less chance of getting YLOD ,

Go for the new one ,

PS3 is like a Rotary Engine , if you dont take care of it ........... it will will blow a deep hole in your pocket :wink2:

buy a 80gb model that comes with dual shock 3(manufactured after 2008 )...it has 65nm processor...thus reducing the chance of ylod to almost 0.001 % ....and u can get it second hand in gud condition @ round about 20 grands ...

ive been running the old fat monster for about two years now..and it works fine if u keep it in a place where there is alot of ventilation...just get a ds3 with it cz gaming aint fun without it..the slim has one big advantage of sucking 1/3 the power of the fat one...u may also need some disk space once u have jbd the console so u can invest there

i had the launch 60gb model ! i had it since 3 yrs man just got YELLOW LIGHT OF DEATH 2 days ago :( now the guy says its not even repairable or so ! damn

GET THE SLIM it will save u money by not dying on u atleast lol

also instead of getting the 120gb for 29k etc in market get the 320gb which is only 2-3k more than the 120gb ! plus double hdd ! IN 2-3K imo is awesome

BTW, i started Ghost of Tsushima, and it got me hooked within the first couple of minutes. I already know It's gonna be a memorable experience. This is how you make a proper Samurai game. Not that SJW game Ubisoft is making.

That's still higher than it's total play length. A 5 hour campaign for a $50 game is downright scammy.

Consoles were my main platform ever since Atari 2500. But now I think it's not worth it as PC especially with DLSS deliver far smoother performance. AW2 on console didn't even had ray tracing and ran below 30fps. Similar issues plagues DD2 on consoled.
The cross gen era really made people think 60fps would be a new standard lol

Welp, done with Hellblade 2. Thoroughly disappointed. Such a nothing burger after the unique experience of the first game.

I have a PS5 but I am not satisfied with the experience. I am currently saving for a 4080 64 GB rig soon. Bit will wait for Pro if performance improves. This gen has been so bad I don't plan on buying consoles anymore for AAA gaming.

It is indeed the worst generation by far.

Both PS and Xbox have been a flop this gen as they can barely maintain 30 fps in a lot of AAA games th.

  • L LegacyGamerGuy:
As per WCCF Tech review, Xbox Series X doesn't even maintain a consistent FPS and sometimes drops into the mid-20fps range. That's unacceptable, tbh.

Gradually transitioning from console gaming to PC as the games are not worth it. 6 hours of Hellblade 2 is just not worth the $50 price tag.
Score 1 for game pass. I wouldn't pay full price for this at retail either.

Just downloaded my first legit digital PC game on GoG at a discount of $8: Two Point Hospital. The same team behind Theme Hospital Two Point Studios now part of Sega. And I am having more fun than most recent AAA games except of course BG3.

Still, I don't like either Sony or Microsoft as they are focusing more on corporate greed than delighting customers. PC gaming is best of gaming and worth every penny.

PC Gamer score of 58/100 for Hellblade 2??? Is it really worse than Gollum that was 64/100? Microsoft games can't even come close to high scores of Sony exclusives apparently.

About the Microsoft (and Sony) debate, I feel both have become too greedy and losing their minds over corporate greed. Personally, I will never buy any console next gen and switch to PC gaming where democracy reins.
