Atlus confirms hack-n-slash spinoff’s release



Persona 5 Strikers will launch in North America on Feb. 23, 2021, Atlus confirmed on Tuesday. The game, called Persona 5 Scramble: Phantom Strikers when it launched in Japan in February, was outed briefly by a YouTube trailer last week that Atlus uploaded and quickly removed.

Persona 5 Strikers is a hack-and-slash spinoff of the Japanese role-playing franchise. It’s launching on Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, and Windows PC, and pre-orders on all platforms will begin on Dec. 10.

Persona 5 Strikers stars Joker, the protagonist of Persona 5 (who has crossed over to other titles since that game’s 2016 launch), and blends Dynasty Warriors’ button-mashing real-time combat with Persona’s turn-based battles. Players choose a team of three fighters to accompany Joker as they explore a storyline set six months after the events of Persona 5.

Persona 5 launched in 2016 and was followed in the West by the March 2020 launch of Persona 5 Royal, which added characters and tweaked the story to accompany them. Persona 5 Strikers’ launch in Japan in February 2020 was enough to get Western fans to consider import options, without language localization.

In a tweet on Dec. 4, linking to a teaser website for Persona 5 Strikers, Atlus subtly acknowledged last week’s leak, saying, “Our communications have been intercepted by the Phantom Thieves,” and adding that “all will be revealed” on Dec. 8.

Persona 5 Scramble: The Phantom Strikers is an action-RPG that takes a page out of the Warriors series. Koei Tecmo and Omega Force are behind the project.

the only negative is that it's a sequel to the vanilla P5, it was developed before Royal released so it doesn't factor the new characters.

Seems to be done on purpose then.

Only deal with musou games is that the themes feel out of place but end up working out anyway.

Good score for a spinoff based on the Musou formula. Some of the reviews mention it's more of an ARPG than a Musou game, which sounds promising. Used the Cyberpunk 2077 refund money i got (on the double lol) to preorder this. Preload should begin in a few days.

Man. They absolutely nailed the presentation. It looks and feels like I'm playing a new story set in the same Persona 5.

Of course things take a drastic turn when you get to the 'dungeons' and ths Musuo style combat with a thousand shadows at once, but honestly, the story and characters are the main reason I enjoy these games, not the dungeon crawling. That they got all the same voice actors to reprise their roles is the cherry on top.

PC version running at maxed on 1440p has some really bad aliasing on the character models, other then that, ain't nothing to complain about the package as a whole from me so far.'

Real damn shame this is a sequel to Persona 5, not Persona 5 Royal. The lack of Kasumi is immediately and drastically notable

Ah man, you're already playing lol. Is the dungeon design on par with that of P5? The latter was a huge improvement over P3/P4 in that area.

I've only played through the first dungeon of the game, it started off in a massive open-field combat like these games do.

But then transitioned into a small linear dungeon similar to what P4/5 have. God bless their soul they really are trying to make it look like an actual Persona game, not like other Musou games like that Zelda one or DQ Heroes.
