the reason for the lack of interest is that first timers in the hardware console business are written off quicker before they can even prove themselves.

Blame the internet generation for that.

Ouya Users Have Weighed In On The Twenty Games They Want The Most

As the Ouya continues its staggering Kickstarter success with over $4 million in pledges as of this writing, it's also asking for what games players want to see. They've come up with a list of twenty… and most of it is surprisingly sensible.

Here are a few games already on Android and thus presumably just a step away from the Ouya:

Grand Theft Auto III – Rockstar has already ported one entry of the franchise to Android and others may follow. Max Payne is also available.

Final Fantasy – The third installment has been ported to Android and it's likely other classic installments are in the works.

Minecraft – Well…sorta. Android has Minecraft: Pocket Edition but a full-fledged version will depend on the Ouya's install base according to Mojang.

Dungeon Defenders – Again, the development team already has a version on Android available.

Other titles are less likely or may depend on the publisher's larger Android support. It seems unlikely older versions of Call of Duty will be brought to Android in general but we do know that Android support is on Activision's radar.

Other franchises like Timesplitters would seem to be ideally suited to the console's free-to-play nature.
Still others like Bastion and Torchlight seem good candidates due to their indie status, especially since the Ouya team will have no shortage of funds to support Android porting.

There are a few titles that sadly just will not happen. The entire Battletoads franchise seems to be off Rare's radar, for example. But it seems the games that the community wants are largely already headed towards the console.

The bigger question is Ouya exclusives. They've sold 400 kits to developers over Kickstarter and have committed some funding to exclusive game development. We'll be curious to see what arrives for the Ouya as the console gets closer to launch.

Ouya Releases New Details About Its Console and the Games That Will Be On It

The massively successful Kickstarter campaign for the Ouya prompted its developer to unveil some new details about the console and its contents.

Julie Uhrman, founder and CEO of Ouya, posted on an update on their Kickstarter page to announce some of the hardware and software that will be going into their new gaming device.

Uhrman said they are working with nVidia to install their "Tegra 3 chipset" in the console. According to nVidia, this chip can hold up to 2 GB of memory and is capable of handling 3D stereo gaming and a HDMI display up to 1920×1080 pixels or an LCD display up to 2048×1536 pixels. They have also been fielding questions about their button layout that, according to recent photos, only has color assignments instead of letters or shapes and they are working on changing them to help those who are color-blind.

In terms of games, Uhrman said that Meteor Entertainment, the same studio that worked on the FPS Hawken, has pledged to bring a game to their new console. Meteor CEO Mark Long confirmed the news on his Twitter feed:

Ouya's Kickstarter Is Only One Source of Funding

The Ouya console has been an enormous success on Kickstarter. It's collected nearly $5 million in pledges so far and is one of the most successful projects ever posted onto the site. But it's not only looking for money from Kickstarter and that has some people angry.

Ouya notes that the Kickstarter served two purposes. The first was to secure funding, of course, but it also served a more important need. The business model of the Ouya of all games being at least somewhat free to play is an unproven one and it was uncertain whether gamers would be interested in playing it.

Obviously the nearly 40,000 backers demonstrate that there's at least some interest in the console. But as Ouya president Julie Uhrman put it:

"We’re looking for additional funds of money but more importantly we wanted to take it to Kickstarter regardless. Because Kickstarter will give us the support we need from the gamers and developers to get additional content on the devices and bring additional partners to us. It is unbelievable validation where gamers really demonstrate their enthusiasm with for what we’re doing with dollars, and those numbers demonstrate that there is a market."

It demonstrates an interesting point for Kickstarter and games in general. A successful Kickstarter campaign can generate a lot of money but more importantly it generates lots of publicity. And that may have more value to a small studio than any Kickstarter.

The Human Element Will Be The Ouya's First Exclusive Game

One of the questions about the Ouya game console was whether it would have any exclusive games. They've just announced what their first exclusive game will be… and it's coming courtesy of one of the architects of Call of Duty.

The Human Element comes from Robert Bowling's Robotoki. Bowling left Infinity Ward this yearafter a long tenure as Creative Strategist for the Call of Duty franchise and has been developing The Human Element since.

The Human Element is a zombie game but it's far from your typical experience. The game is centered less around fighting the undead to survive and more around fighting the living for scarce resources as well as using multiple platforms.

For example, the game will incorporate real-world location data so instead of going to a grocery store to hunt for food in the actual game you can check into a grocery store using Foursquare or Facebook and scavenge for resources that way. If that's not your thing you can team up with somebody playing the mobile game to scavenge for you. Cooperation is a key aspect.

In the game itself, you can choose to survive alone, with a partner, or with a child at your side and follow Action, Stealth, or Intelligence paths to obtain your goals.

The Human Element isn't due until 2015 but as part of the exclusive deal Robotoki will be offering insight into the game as it develops. We'll be intensely curious to see how the game develops and how this unique mix of gameplay works.

OnLive Headed to Ouya; An Early Look at the Controller

Ouya has partnered up with the cloud gaming service OnLive.

OnLive general manager Bruce Grove took to the company's blog this morning and announced that OnLive would be available on the open-source, Android-powered Ouya console when it hits the marketplace in March of 2013.

Referring to Ouya's kickstarter effort, he asked what that meant for OUYA backers, then answered his rhetorical question thusly:

-OnLive will deliver a full console-class experience, bringing hundreds of top-tier games from more than 80 publishers to the OUYA console for play on demand.

-OUYA owners will be able to jump in and play any of these games both at home on their OUYA console, and on the go on PCs, Macs, tablets and phones, never leaving a game behind.

-Instant demos will be available for nearly every game in our ever-growing library—from eagerly anticipated indie titles like Ravaged, to hot blockbusters like the upcoming Darksiders II. Players can experience up to 30 minutes of each game for free before deciding what to buy. If they like it, they can continue playing where the demo left off.

Taking full advantage of the announcement, Ouya then offered some first looks at the console's controller… which is still a work in progress. Ouya says, "We're still deciding on the buttons. For now, we've stuck with the colored circles as placeholders. But don't fret, we won't leave out colorblind gamers. :)"

Here's that tiny Ouya console, said to be about the size of a Rubik's Cube:
