That moment when you realize the epilogue is lengthier than the whole of The Order 1886...easily the worst section of the game.

Also,...

Spoiler: show
...playing as John Marston after Arthur Morgan, a far far better character,...

just did not feel right.
Naw man. That's exactly what the epilogue is for. I loved it.

It's basically setting up how John became the outlaw/cool guy in the first game after he's introduced and treated as a bumbling idiot through out most of RDR.

Yeah, it's great that it sets up the beginning of RDR1, but it just went on for too long. I feel like a lot of it could've been skimmed through in cutscenes.

Shamelessly copying this from the GI article. I can recall each and every one of these dialogues and the missions too. Great writing, superb performances all around and an unforgettable experience this game is.

I guess the only dialogue missed is Dutch's staple ~ "I have a plan".

"The Most Badass Lines From Video Game Characters In 2018"

Dutch to Kieran: “I got a saying, my friend. We shoot fellers as need shooting, save fellers as need saving, and feed 'em as need feeding. We're gonna find out what you need.”

---

Arthur: “As long as we get paid or you get shot, I’m happy.”

---

Arthur: "Maybe when your mother's finished mourning your father, I'll keep her in black on your behalf."

---

"That didn't go very smoothly."

Arthur: "They can put that on my gravestone."

---

Dutch: "This place ain't no such thing as civilized. It's man so in love with greed he has forgotten himself, and found only appetites."

---

Anthony Foreman: "She killed my cousin!"

Susan Grimshaw: "I don't care if she shot your daddy and cooked your momma for breakfast. She's mine, she ain't yours."

---

Dutch: "Get down here YOU INBRED TRASH."

---

Dutch: "If you ain't gonna be civilized about this..." [shoots man in the face]

---

Hosea Matthews strolling out of a burning house: "So much for the g_dd_mn cribbage game."

[h=1]Red Dead Online gets a bigger battle royale mode today[/h]

[h=2]Gun Rush is a new 32-player fight for survival[/h]

Rockstar Games has a new update for Red Dead Online that brings a bigger battle royale-style mode to the game. Named Gun Rush, the game mode drops up to 32 players into a battle to be the last player standing as they scramble for weapons and ammunition in an ever-shrinking play area. Gun Rush will be available in free-for-all and team variations.
Red Dead Online, the online competitive multiplayer component of Red Dead Redemption 2, already had a game mode based on the battle royale genre known as Make It Count. But that take on battle royale was on a much smaller scale, and focused less foraging for weapons than it did on quiet survival. Gun Rush should make battle royale in Red Dead Online a more action-oriented contest.
In addition to Gun Rush, Rockstar outlined what else is coming to Red Dead Online in the coming weeks and months. These include new daily challenges that cover “every aspect of the game, from sharpshooting to evading the law.” There are also changes coming to law and bounty upgrades in an effort to curb player griefing, Rockstar says:
Soon, players will get a bounty for committing crimes and will be incentivized to pay them off within an allotted time. Wait too long and bounty hunters from each of the states will track the player forcing them to either pay up or escape.
Changes to the Parley system are also en route to make it easier to avoid aggressive players. “In addition, it will be easier to trigger Feuds, Posse Feuds and Leader Feuds to take on attacking players in structured competition,” Rockstar said in an official announcement.
Rockstar is also planning to change how player blips appear on Red Dead Online’s map. The plan is to make players more difficult to spot across long distances, unless they “grief and kill indiscriminately.” Here’s how that will work:
Player location blips will soon appear only over short distances, reducing the range at which you are visible to others, decreasing the likelihood of being targeted by another player across large areas. Down the line, we’re also looking to introduce the ability to identify players who grief and kill indiscriminately with a progressively darkening blip that becomes more visible and at a longer range, so everyone in a session can identify potentially dangerous opponents at a glance and from a safe distance.
Rockstar said that Red Dead Online will stay in beta form for the next few months. The studio plans to add new missions, more dynamic events, new competitive modes, and new weapons and clothing.
Red Dead Redemption 2 and the Red Dead Online beta are available now on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. Starting today, Xbox One players now have access to a handful of items in Red Dead Online that were previously PS4 exclusive: the Red Chestnut Arabian Horse, Alligator Skin Ranch Cutter Saddle and the High Roller Double-Action Revolver.

and why is this "bad"?

it has a great open world in which you can do shit ton, but if it relies on linear set piece moments to tell a convincing and cinematic story, I really dont see the point of this being such a massive negative

Kind of off-topic, but I'm still pretty sad that Bruce left ND. Where Neil was the narrative/storytelling guy, Bruce was the one overseeing gameplay. He has since been replaced with unproven talent, and that has me worried for TLoU part II.

and why is this "bad"?
A classic example for this is the story mission where you have to brawl with some redneck outside of a salon. You are to engage him in a fist fight, but if you pull out your gun and shoot him, it's game over because that's not what the game wanted you to do. That shouldn't have to be the case in an open world game, where you usually have a degree of freedom over your choices.

I just re watched the E3 gameplay demo and I just cant help but feel that there are some very subtle changes that feel to be in the right direction while maintaining the core gameplay of the first game. I know its a stage demo so its presented to feel more dramatic but there are parts i the demo where i feel that the gameplay will end up even better than the original one.

[h=1]Red Dead Online gets anti-griefing, daily challenges in Feb. 26 update[/h]

[h=2]This update focuses on law and order[/h]

Red Dead Online’s next set of updates will smooth out some of the pain points players are experiencing while making the world feel a little more alive and active. The update will include new law and bounty systems, changes to player blips, and other balance changes.
[h=2]LESS UNWANTED KILLING, MORE OPPORTUNITIES TO FIGHT[/h]In the upcoming patch, player blips are hidden unless you are within 150 meters of another player. The radius is larger for players who are firing their gun. This will make griefing substantially harder since it’ll be nearly impossible to track poor souls who run away from bandits.
Players who are too aggressive will also have their blip darken in color and become increasingly visible. This change applies to their entire posse. “Overly aggressive acts” are defined as attacking and killing players outside of a structured mode or free roam mission. You’re free to contest a posse trying to deliver a buggy without racking up notoriety, but if you gun someone’s horse down, you’ll start to become a target.
Rockstar has also introduced better systems for posses to interact with each other. Posse-wide parleys will be possible now, letting you make yourself invulnerable against an entire group of players if just one of them has killed you.
There are also new posse feud modes that can trigger upon open world combat in this new patch. If you encounter another group of players on the open plains and violence breaks out, you can enter a timed mini-deathmatch. These can take place between between just two players, the posse’s leaders, or the entire groups of both posses.

THIS kind of camping is okay. Rockstar Games via Polygon[h=2]LAW AND ORDER[/h]Rockstar is adding another stick to deter bad behavior: Criminals in Red Dead Online can rack up bounties, bringing NPC bounty hunters down on their heads. Much like Grand Theft Auto’s five-star police system, a higher bounty will inspire a much larger and better prepared group of bounty hunters.

Larger crimes, like killing other players or mowing through the population of Rhodes, will give you both a bounty and lower your honor. Smaller scale crimes, like stealing from a home, only decrease your honor but will not incur a bounty.
[h=2]DAILY CHALLENGES[/h]Daily challenges are coming to the game, granting gold nuggets and experience. These challenges will cover activities that players are already doing in the game, from picking herbs to hunting and clearing hideouts. While the Feb. 26 patch will introduce the system, Rockstar notes that it will “expand and evolve over time bringing specialty challenges and rewards, streak bonuses and more.”
Finally, Rockstar is tweaking the Varmint Rifle’s accuracy and tweaking pelts and carcasses to last longer after death or respawning. These are just the first steps in continual rebalancing and changes that are expected to occur over the course of the Red Dead Online beta.
Before the Feb. 26 patch hits, Rockstar are introducing posse experience bonuses. Playing in a posse will grant extra experience. Free roam activities and missions will receive a 2X experience bonus applying until Feb. 19, and then a 20% XP boost on all activities will be applied until Feb. 26.

[h=1]Red Dead Online gets competitive fishing, gold armor gunfight in next update[/h]

[h=2]New clothing options, weapons, emotes, and more are incoming[/h]

Next week’s Red Dead Online
update is set to add anti-griefing measures and daily challengesto the game, but Rockstar Games has announced another slate of additions that will be coming with the Feb. 26 patch. This includes balance changes, two new weapons, and tweaks to existing weapons, including the Varmint Rifle. Here are the biggest additions to the game that Rockstar announced today.

New free roam events, races, and showdown modes will be entering the game. The most interesting of these is Fool’s Gold, a mission where players compete to wear a protective set of golden armor. Claiming the armor and surviving while wearing it grants players points. Killing the armor also awards a bounty of points to players.
Competitive challenges are also getting fishing challenges. Fishing challenges will be broken up by type, and players will opt in and receive the bait, rod, and lures necessary to properly compete. Players who are participating in fishing challenges are kept safe from griefing, ensuring that players can focus on just catching fish. Whoever catches the highest weight total of fish wins.

Rockstar GamesShowdown is getting three new modes: Up in Smoke, Spoils of War, and Plunder. More information on these modes will be released in the days to come. Races will also get a new variation, Target Races, where players shoot targets from horseback as they ride towards the finish line.
Finally, a range of new cosmetic add-ons are coming to the game. A wide range of clothing options in all slots are on the way, as well as new outfits. Shops and the catalogue will start offering limited time special items. There’ll also be a selection of new emotes that cover greetings, reactions, and taunts.
Some of this content will be made available for PlayStation 4 players first. Open target races, a new jawbone knife, three options, and a selection of the new clothing will be a PS4 exclusive for a timed window, then made available for Xbox One players.

[h=1]Red Dead Online update adds a classic Red Dead Redemption weapon, more free stuff[/h]

[h=2]Stock up and battle in Fool’s Gold[/h]

Rockstar Games is rolling out more updates to Red Dead Online, the multiplayer component of Red Dead Redemption 2, including a throwback to the original game: John Marston’s Evans Repeater rifle.
That new weapon, carried over from the original Red Dead Redemption, can be purchased from the in-game catalog or at a gunsmith. Rockstar describes the Evans Repeater as a “powerful long-range rifle” featuring “a high bullet capacity [that] is deadly at medium and long distances, with an especially high rate of fire.”
Red Dead Online players may want to pick up that new rifle in an attempt to be competitive in the game’s new free roam event, Fool’s Gold. Rockstar announced Fool’s Gold in the lead-up to Red Dead Online’s Feb. 26 update, promising a new competitive mode in which players fight to wear a golden suit of armor and try to take down as many enemies as possible while wearing it.
One important reason to log into Red Dead Online this week is a free care package. Rockstar is giving away the following items to players, which they can pick up at camp or at an in-game post office:

  • 60x High Velocity Pistol Ammo
  • 60x High Velocity Repeater Ammo
  • 2x Fire Bottles
  • 8x Fire Arrows
  • 2x Jolly Jack’s
  • 2x Potent Horse Medicine
  • 1x Lake Lure
More details about the latest Red Dead Online update are available at Tuesday’s Rockstar Newswire post.

[h=1]Red Dead Online’s next update adds more story, world events, and anti-griefing[/h]

[h=2]More open world goodness, less griefing[/h]

Red Dead Online’s beta continues apace, with the last patch adding new showdown modes and a law and order system. While individual parts of the patch were fun, like the Spoils of War game mode, the update didn’t solve the main problems of the open world; namely, a lack of content and a surplus of griefing. Luckily, today, Rockstar announced a series of new additions to Red Dead Online due later this spring that look much more promising.
Rockstar noted that Red Dead Online is still in an early state, saying that the beta period has allowed them to “lay the groundwork for the more advanced aspects of Red Dead Online still to come”, and that the game so far is “a more evolved foundation” than the ones crafted for titles like Grand Theft Auto Online.
The spring update update promises to continue the main storyline of Red Dead Online, where characters work with Jessica LeClerk to hunt down her husband’s killer. These missions, and the assorted morality choices, have been the best part of the beta so far.

Rockstar GamesIn addition, there will be new, free-roam missions and new mission givers located around the map, adding more variety to one of the game’s major game play loops. As players navigate the map, they will also encounter dynamic events that require them to come to the aid of innocent folk, fight off ambushes from rival gangs, and initiate rescues. These seem similar to the random encounters Arthur experiences in the single player mode ofRed Dead Redemption 2.
The next update will continue to refine the anti-griefing systems introduced in February. The new Hostility system will track players who inflict damage and those who are defending themselves, allowing players to act in self-defense without incurring a bounty while roaming the open world. Players with high hostility and aggressive actions can die without penalty, allowing for better bounty hunting and organic encounters. The Hostility system will not be applied to missions or events, but will help regulate unstructured encounters with other players in the world.
Rockstar also unveiled the Playing Style system. There will be two Playing Styles: Offensive and Defensive. While the Offensive Playing Style will be similar to the existing version of Red Ded Online, the Defensive Playing Style will be focused on allowing players to navigate the world, fish, hunt, and travel without worrying about hostile contact with players like xXWeedLord420Xx.
Defensive players cannot be lassoed, and other players cannot lock onto them. In turn, they cannot lock onto other players to fire and lassoing other players will put them in Offensive mode with a bump to their hostility. They also can’t be critically hit, meaning even a headshot won’t serve as a one-hit kill. This will allow Defensive players to defend themselves and engage with other players in a more cinematic, narrative fashion.
This update will also contain a host of smaller quality of life changes, including new Daily Challenges, the LeMat revolver, and updates to the character creator. There is no currently no release date for this patch, but Rockstar will release more information in the weeks to come.

It takes hours but one gets used to the gameplay eventually. If you are only looking for good gameplay, then this is not your game. But it is totally worth playing for narrative and characters.
