Coz I haven't noticed any that stick out like a sore thumb. Although I was playing in on PC with every possible option maxed out
I'm surprised you didn't notice the aggressive cross fading or culling of foliage as the camera is panned around. It certainly stuck out like a sore thumb to me. Happens on all versions, btw, and it's not a graphical bug as the 2nd video implies.

Nope. Haven't contacted anyone, I doubt the sellers know the exact ETA themselves. I am assuming it will be here by Monday.

For open world games, witcher 3 is my benchmark. Anything that surpasses that is gold for me
1. Some might argue that it runs, plays and looks better than W3 on a console.

2. So if something is slightly less than Witcher 3, in terms of how it plays, it automatically becomes " glaring compromises " , "compromises are not justified here."?
Cmon, it cant be nothing or everything..there is a spectrum in between:confused:

Games on a much smaller scale are expected to be more technically advanced. There would be no surprise if HZD pushes higher fidelity visuals compared to W3, Just Cause 3, FFXV. The glaring disappointment is those games are accomplishing more than HZD, which is a surprising turn out for me. Doesnt make it a bad looking game by any stretch.

Yup. Pretty much confirmed that the physical copies wouldnt be here before Monday. Would be going digital with it this time around - mine would unlock by tomorrow night.

Now that's just a gross over exaggeration. Only 'notable' effect missing Horizon is GI. Water and foliage interaction (which is there, but just not for all minor foliage) are secondary. However, DF's article (separate from the video) has nothing but high praises for the volumetric lighting effects the game uses. Sure, they're not using the most taxing effects possible, but they're using it effectively.

While I won't compare with Witcher 3 on Ultra on a high end PC (Even though there are sources which state Horizon looks better than that too), I can very comfortably say this is a much better technological representation of game development than both FFXV and Just Cause 3.

You're being modest here, NaNoW. Not counting stuff like resolution, AF, AO, shadows, draw distance, water and foliage interactivity, Horizon running on a PS4, not pro, looks better than TW3 running on a PC at the highest quality settings.

- Horizon's procedural world creation tech is far more advanced than TW3's SpeedTree implementation for the placement of foliage.
- Horizon simulates dynamically generated volumetric clouds, TW3 does not. A mod adds volumetric cloud simulation for the Skellige region, but even that doesn't look as good.
- Horizon has more detailed character models that also animate better than TW3.
- Horizon renders higher quality material shaders and features more detailed geometry than TW3.
- Horizon features superior post-processing than TW3.
- Horizon features a seamless open world with zero load times during traversal, TW3 does not. Though, TW3 features a larger world map.

Did I call the use of those effects ineffective or that HZD looks bad? I do find FFXV and Witcher 3 technical merits to be more impressive esp given their scale. DF previous open world masterpiece was Batman Arkham Knight so clearly they have a different set of standards to judge which i don't really agree with.

Like that wouldnt be a gross exaggeration. But I agree with you, its not a fair comparison.

dude i m not kidding when i say this i have yet to face such issues in my playthroughs. sure there is the extremely rare pop-in of a single pedestrian or even roach but its never predictable which means its a bug and not a compromise. heck even ur quoted vids call it a BUG too. since my copy was preordered therefore i can attest to the fact that the game had bugs/ glitches at launch but after the release of their final expansion, its rock solid on PC now and only a corrupt file or broken mod could cause such bugs.
in its final state, the game is THE benchmark for open world games period!

1. and they might be right to an extent. i never claimed the game looks/ plays shitty. i only have issues with the devs design choices.

2. if this where any multiplat open world game, i would not be discussing here. the fact that its a exclusive with potential to be Sony next biggest franchise and system seller, is why its such a big deal. plus lets not forget that its being compared to a multiplat game thats still manages to be superior imo and has compromises for consoles that make sense.

I don't agree. Both Horizon and FFXV are more impressive on a technical level (for different reasons) and running on more capable graphics engines. One could make an argument in favor of TW3's art or aesthetic, but that's all subjective.

i still don't see any tree disappearing in my playthrough

even the leaves of the tree rooted offscreen are visible. maybe what u experience is also possible since my ver is heavily modded. btw i don't think its a compromise, it could be to facilitate combat by clearing up the view.

lol it's not going to happen in a screenshot. And it happens both during and outside of combat. The foliage isn't really obstructing your view, as it's not present between the camera and your character when it disappears.

I'm talking about the PC version of TW3, which is essentially the XBO/PS4 version with higher LOD, better shadows, AO, image quality. Through ini tweaks, you could further bump character detail and shadows to custcene quality. But the environmental asset quality, geometry, post-process, materials etc. remain the same.

It's just that the things Horizon and FFXV are doing bring about a more dramatic impact on their visual makeup.

Man .. this game looks like next-gen Far Cry: Primal.
Sorry, but the compromise-free version of Far Cry: Primal i.e. the PC version, totally looks better than this. /s

Btw, the mist/fog in Horizon looks fantastic. The only other game where I remember it looking this good was Killzone Shadow Fall, which runs on an earlier version of the then unnamed Decima engine.
