I'll give substratum a shot once I get bored of the stock look.

I kinda regret not getting a Note 8.. There is a guy selling a used N9500 (set charger) for 58,000. Phone has a scratch on the back glass. Good deal or no?
Not a good deal. N9500's are a pain to deal with. Too much Chinese bloat and shit.

Do you've any idea how much I'd be able to get a clean Note 8 for? Preferably Exynos (is there a UFS version difference in the Exynos and SD version in Note 8?)
No, a small batch of Snapdragon S8s were manufactured with UFS 2.0 storage but the Exynos variants of both S8 and Note 8 have UFS 2.1 storage.

They're expensive nowadays. Around 70k at least for a clean N950F Note 8. Expect it to be higher if it's the officially sold PTA certified model with warranty.

I don't care about warranty. While I'd love accidental damage coverage, I can't justify paying 100k for a phone.

And 70k sounds about right. A guy I know is getting a new phone from abroad and this is the price he quoted me ('untouched piece').

murtaza12 How is the warranty here? Like, this expensive accidental damage warranty.. Do they actually replace the phone quickly?

I'm thinking about getting a Note 8 to replace my Note 4. The S8 is too narrow for my liking. Wondering if I should pay the premium in order to enjoy the phone without any protection other than that Spigen case.

Also, what's the price with warranty? Online prices are confusing.

Most shops are selling the warranty variant for between 87 and 95k.

Rumours are that there is no more accidental coverage. I heard about this when I went to buy another S8+. The guy said Samsung ended the contract and no more phones are being offered with accidental coverage. There is still a 1 year warranty you can claim through Samsung Pakistan, but if you break it, it's on you. I think it's because people abused the whole accidental coverage thing and were just using it to get free phones or free repairs when they didn't break it by accident, but deliberately.

As for replacing the phone quickly, I always thought this accidental coverage shit was a gimmick. Regardless of the warranty provider, whether it was GreenTech or M&P, or AirLink, they always take at least 2-4 weeks to replace it or repair it.
They're very slow and lazy about this and they really give no fucks about the customer and what he'll do without a phone for a month. Read the reviews on Facebook for GreenTech, very few are good reviews, most are crap.

Basically if it's going in for a replacement, they may replace your phone within a week. If it's going for a repair, 99% chance they don't have the parts (or equipment) (or labour) to repair it, so they'll say we're sending it to Lahore or Karachi and it'll take a few weeks to repair. Meanwhile, you can hold on to a shitty receipt and they'll call you whenever the phone is back, IF it's ever back.

Thanks for the detailed reply.

Fuck warranty then. Let's just hope I dont break it.

This Spigen protector seems sturdy enough.. What would you recommend for the Note?

Frankly speaking I'm still undecided. Would you call it a decent upgrade over an S8? Homeshopping has it for 81k.. They might give it for 79 or 80. Or should I wait for S9+?

I had the Spigen Neoflex on my Note 8 as well, decent enough to protect from scratches.

It's not worth it IMO. It was a really nice phone but not worth the money.

S9 is around the corner and the price of both S8 and Note 8 will fall, so you might as well get the S9+ if you're spending that much.

I just want a bigger (wider) phone. This S8 is so narrow.. I'm used to a Note 4. Suppose I'll wait a month and see how much the price drops. The S9+ will be 100k on launch here.. Way outta my budget.

The Note 8 isn't much wider. Not even 2 millimeters wider than my S8+.

S9 will be expensive at launch but it will drop quickly, you can probably get one cheap if you buy one of those open box ones where people buy the phone, don't like it and sell them 2 days later. They lose a lot of their value cause the seals have been cut.

Saw the post on xda and reddit.. I'm on AQK7. I have to make 2 jumps? Can you guide me a bit?

Also, I don't have a memory card in the phone. Would that be an issue?
Flash AQL5 (December Nougat build) using Odin. All 4 files, AP, BL, CP and CSC_OXM (WILL WIPE INTERNAL STORAGE).

Download the AQL5 to ZRA5 (Oreo Beta 6) OTA ZIP.

Boot into stock recovery. Hit apply update from ADB, type 'adb sideload update.zip' and it'll start installing ZRA5. Takes around 8-10 minutes.

The phone will reboot itself into the OS. Don't set it up.

Download ZRA5 to CRAP (Oreo final) OTA ZIP.

Boot back into stock recovery. Repeat the sideloading steps again. Phone will reboot into the OS once installation is done.

It'll start at the setup wizard, just go on from there and set it up however you like.

I've suggested ADB sideload above because you mentioned not having an SDcard. I did have one handy so I applied the OTAs using that.

Note: I'd highly recommend using an SDcard if you're inexperienced. Less fuck-up chances and ADB sideload is buggy with Oreo recovery.

I don't wanna wipe internal.. Just set up the phone the way I like. How long do you think will it take them to push the update here? Mine is a UK phone I think (says so on the back).

Phone origin doesn't matter anymore. Read the OP of this thread for more on that.

Not wiping internal and sideloading these is risky business. You'll run into a ton of issues that'll basically force you to reset.

Waiting for this OTA to release on the PAK CSC will probably take a month or so. They'll start the official rollout for Europe tomorrow, and MENA gets it at the end of Feb. So I'd say end of Feb, beginning March is when you'll get the OTA notification.

when is the update coming for S8? i think last update I got was back in November.

btw need suggestions for a case for S8 plus that can provide good enough fall protection, I have looked all over the internet and failed to get spigen liquid crystal, ultra hybrid or ringke fusion case.
so I guess now time for a solid protection and no transparent case, though I am thinking about rhino crash guard bumper too but what can I do for protecting the back as its only for the sides?

Samsung official Alcantara case. Expensive, but worth it.
Looks nice, adds grip and I've dropped my phone once with the case on, face down, and nothing happened.

for how much and from where?
Any phone accessory shop, but if you want the real deal, the GreenTech Samsung Service Center in Jinnah Super has it, that's where I got mine from.

3 colours, blue, silver and dark gray. They cost 3,600. Available for S8, S8+ and Note 8.
