[h=1]Iron Fist Star Teases Classic Costume Appearance[/h]

With their films occupying the family-friendly demographic, the Marvel Cinematic Universe was looking to expand their tone to have more adult content. This need resulted in Marvel TV partnering with Netflix to create four original series that would crossover in a mini-series, where each show was more grounded, adult, and violent. Since the launch of Daredevil season one, this has proven to be a smart move from all parties – though the “grounded” Netflix corner of the MCU will become a bit more fantastical, when Iron Fist season one debuts in March.
Martial artist Danny Rand/Iron Fist’s power set is by far the least grounded in reality of the Marvel/Netflix characters introduced so far, and there have been few signs that the Iron Fist TV show will be changing its namesake’s origin and powers to be more “grounded”, either. Previously, Marvel and Netflix have done the best they can to not make their individual Defenders TV shows overtly “comic-booky” by having the heroes parade around in noticeable costumes. However, Iron Fist may also break the mold in this respect, by having Danny don his classic superhero attire.

Finn Jones is playing Danny Rand in Iron Fist and was recently asked in an interview with Extra (via MCU Exchange) whether or not his character will get a comic book accurate suit on the TV series. Initially, Jones tries to play off the question as seeming far-fetched, but the way he ends his quote may have just confirmed that Rand will wear his classic comic book costume during the show, at some point:
I mean, who says there’s going to be a costume? I mean, this is a modern…. I can’t say any more. Marvel’s gonna kill me. There may be a costume, there may not be.

While this is not absolute confirmation that Jones will be wearing the deep cut green onesie and a yellow mask, there would be no reason for Marvel to kill him as he fears if he stated that there won’t be a costume. Should Jones get the chance to wear the classic Iron Fist outfit, it will be interesting to see how closely it matches the source material. That said, expect the Iron Fist TV show to take some liberties in that respect, should it prove to be the case.
Marvel and Netflix have yet to indicate that Rand will be suiting up in his TV show, but may have given fans an idea of his costume with The Defenders photos that feature Danny in an open jacket to show off his chest tattoo. Iron Fist season one might also follow the same path as Daredevil season one and wait until its finale to see Danny get his proper costume; though hopefully, this time a picture won’t leak ahead of time, as happened with Daredevil‘s freshman season. Either way, an appearance by the best-known Iron Fist costume in the TV adaptation would certainly come as welcome news to many a Marvel comic book fan.

Daredevil
season 1 and 2, Jessica Jones season 1, and Luke Cage season 1 are now available on Netflix. Iron Fist will premiere on March 17. The Defenders and The Punisher will arrive at some point this year. Premiere dates for the newest seasons of Jessica Jones, Daredevil, and Luke Cage have not yet been revealed.

[h=1]Iron Fist Early Reviews: Marvel & Netflix’s First Disappointment[/h]

Marvel’s Iron Fist TV show is the final link to the chain leading to Marvel and Netflix’s The Defenders TV miniseries crossover event later this summer – but it might also be the weakest. Ahead of its premiere, Iron Fist has come under criticism for its approach to adapting what many people views as outdated comic book source material. The show’s apparent handling of both Asian and Asian-American culture have similarly drawn accusations that its protagonist, aka. Danny Rand (Finn Jones), is a variation on the White Savior archetype – something that Jones and showrunner Scott Buck have (naturally) assured is not the case.
Iron Fist season one, in the tradition of the Marvel/Netflix series before it, explores the origins of its namesake, as Danny Rand returns to reclaim his family’s New York-based company after being presumed dead for fifteen years, encountering new (and familiar) enemies along the way. The Iron Fist TV show is following on the heels of two seasons of Daredevil, a series lauded for breaking new ground in the Marvel Cinematic Universe with its gritty tone and street-level crime drama, as well as single seasons of Jessica Jones and Luke Cage that were lauded for their (respective) thoughtful handling of topics such as sexual assault and African-American culture. That is to say: the bar of quality set for Iron Fist to clear was admittedly pretty high, from the get-go.

Perhaps for related reasons, many TV critics are already declaring Iron Fist season one to be the first real disappointment for the Marvel/Netflix corner of the MCU, after having viewed the initial six episodes of the season. You can read telling, but SPOILER-FREE, excerpts from the first wave of reviews for the TV show, below. (To read the full reviews, click on the corresponding links for each excerpt.)

Jessica Henwick, Finn Jones and Rosario Dawson in Iron Fist

THR – Daniel Fienberg
After three straight creative successes, three above-average character introductions, the partnership between Marvel and Netflix was due for a dud. This isn’t to say that Daredevil, Jessica Jones and Luke Cage have been shows without flaws… Each show, though, has had virtues of tone and aspiration that made it feel like a complicated superhero TV code had been cracked. [Iron Fist] feels like a step backward on every level, a major disappointment that already suffers from storytelling issues through the first six episodes made available to critics and would probably be mercifully skippable in its entirety if it weren’t the bridge into the long awaited Defenders crossover series.
Variety – Maureen Ryan

Quite a few dramas in the streaming arena have pacing problems, and even Netflix’s better Marvel programs have displayed an affinity for contrived, time-killing subplots. But “Iron Fist” is the most frustrating and ferociously boring example of Netflix Drift in some time. Not one element of this plodding piece works. The action scenes lack spark, snap, and originality. None of the flat, by-the-numbers characters makes any lasting impression. And as origin stories go, the tale of Danny Rand (Finn Jones), at least as rendered by this creative team, is about as exciting as a slice of Velveeta cheese left out in the sun too long.

Den of Geek – Mike Cecchini
But there’s something missing from Iron Fist. Visually, it’s a little bland for many of these early episodes, often lacking the cinematic pop that made Daredevil or Luke Cage such visual standouts. While every Marvel Netflix series has pacing problems, and many feel like they spread 8-10 episodes worth of story over 13 chapters, it usually takes a few installments before you feel the show begin to spin its wheels. But Iron Fist is a particularly slow starter, and it takes nearly three before you get a sense of why anyone behaves the way they do.

Colleen Wing (Jessica Henwick) leads her students in Iron Fist

IGN – Jim Vejvoda
[Its] high-rise approach does set Iron Fist apart from the other, grittier and more urban Marvel-Netflix series, [but] it also lends the show a sterile look and feel. Again, it’s all very prime time soap opera-ish. The latter of these first six episodes eventually brings in more comic book-y and fun elements, but Iron Fist is thus far the weakest of the Marvel-Netflix series.
Polygon – Susana Polo

After Jessica Jones (a revelation), Luke Cage (flawed but still brilliant) and Daredevil (outshone by the competition but still very solid), I fully expected Iron Fist to be a decent adaptation ultimately hobbled by an unwillingness to stray too far from its dated source material… And let me be clear: Iron Fist’s problems with its portrayal of Asian cultures and Asian-Americans are embedded throughout every episode. It’s just that its problems with delivering exposition, crafting consistent characters, and even basic dialogue writing run right alongside.

The Verge – Kwame Opam
The sad truth, however, is that Iron Fist is the weakest of Marvel’s Netflix series to date. As far as diversity, representation, and appropriation go, the series fails in a number of ways. But, over the course of its first six episodes, it also manages to fall short on basic levels like storytelling. Its creative laziness bankrupts the entire show. Marvel’s new series is a disappointing case study in studios needing to try harder to tell difficult stories well.

Danny Rand (Finn Jones) mid-fight in Iron Fist

Most of these Iron Fist reviews touch on the longstanding criticisms about the show’s handling of Asian and/or Asian-American culture, indicating that the series does come off as being a step-back, following Jessica Jones and Luke Cage in particular. Beyond that however, it sounds as though Iron Fist struggles from a basic storytelling perspective and fails to evolve the larger MCU “brand” in the way that its predecessors on Netflix did. Whether or not Iron Fist season one draws the same criticism of being over-long that has afflicted other Marvel/Netflix series to date remains to be seen, but it does sound like the show gets off to a slower-than-desirable start (as far as most TV critics are concerned).

There are some recurring positive notes in these Iron Fist reviews, not least of all with respect to Jessica Henwick’s turn as Colleen Wing – though as most TV critics seem to agree that Colleen would have been a better choice to serve as the protagonist of the Iron Fist TV series, that silver lining comes off as being more of a backhanded compliment. The outlook towards the MCU’s Danny Rand could certainly turn around, either once fans and critics alike have gotten to see Iron First season one in its entirety and/or when Danny joins The Defenders this year. For now though, “The Final Defender” also appears to be the least-impressive one.

Daredevil
seasons 1 and 2, Jessica Jones season 1, and Luke Cage season 1 are now available on Netflix. Iron Fist season 1 premieres on March 17. The Defenders arrive sometime in the summer, with The Punisher coming later this year. Premiere dates for the newest seasons of Jessica Jones, Daredevil, and Luke Cage have not yet been revealed.

Finn Jones Hits Back At Critics For Negative Iron Fist Reviews

Marvel’s street-level superhero shows on Netflix have been a smash hit for the streaming service. Four series were announced back in 2013 that would then culminate in the event series of Marvel’s Defenders which is due sometime later this year. Before we get that team-up series, however, the final Defender still needs his introduction in Iron Fist.
The series is due to hit Netflix but has already taken a battering from critics who have reviewed the first half of the season. Even before anyone had a chance to see a single episode of the series, there were critical reactions to the casting of Finn Jones which some view as the outdated idea of a White Savior archetype in an Asian dominated storyline.
With the series’s hype wind seemingly knocked out of it, Finn Jones had a chance to defend against the negative reviews via Metro.

“Well I think there’s multiple factors. What I will say is these shows are not made for critics, they are first and foremost made for the fans. I also think some of the reviews we saw were seeing the show through a very specific lens, and I think when the fans of the Marvel Netflix world and fans of the comic books view the show through the lens of just wanting to enjoy a superhero show, then they will really enjoy what they see. I think it’s a fantastic show which is really fun and I think it stands up there with the other Defenders’ shows without a doubt. “

Both Finn Jones and series creator/showrunner Scott Buck have defended the series before from the casting criticism assuring fans that the series isn’t appropriating Asian culture nor promoting the idea of a white savior. So it comes as no surprise that they would continue to defend the series up until the premiere of the first season.
While it may be true that Iron Fist was made for the fans and not the critics, every season of Daredevil, Jessica Jones, and Luke Cage have been received with mostly rave reviews. Those shows are currently sitting anywhere between 76% and 98% on Rotten Tomatoes whereas Iron Fist is currently sitting at a paltry 14%. Our own review here at ScreenRant has marked Iron Fist as the weakest entry to date in the Defenders series.

Having said that, critics have only had access to the first six episodes of the series. The general consensus is that each of these Marvel/Netflix television series start strong but slow down mid-way through each season. It is entirely possible Iron Fist will break that mold and after these six episodes the series picks up and finishes stronger than any other season leading up to the Defenders series.
Daredevil seasons 1 and 2, Jessica Jones season 1, and Luke Cage season 1 are now available on Netflix. Iron Fist season 1 premieres on March 17. The Defenders arrive sometime in the summer, with The Punisher coming later this year. Premiere dates for the newest seasons of Jessica Jones, Daredevil, and Luke Cage have not yet been revealed.

3 episodes in, enjoying so far. Collen Wing is bad ass.
On 5th episode now, and yes I am starting to enjoy it as well. Dont know why they messed up the first episode, the dialogues felt cheap to me and that flashback cgi was weird too. But now they have revealed some stuff it all starting to get interesting. And that Jeri Hogarth is real smart-ass :D

Watched 6 eps so far. Not perfect, but pretty good i guess.

I give it a 8/10 so far. Could improve, depending how things pick up in later episodes.

I would say Iron Fist is better than Daredevil Season 1. Daredevil Season 1 really bored me, while Season 2 was amazing due to punisher.

About Claire Temple....

Spoiler: show
What is she even doing here? I mean she is a great character and all but including her in Iron Fist story line is just badly forced. Her, Colleen and Danny have awkward conversations. And there is this forced romance thing between Danny and Colleen. They should have built some chemistry between them. On to 10th episode now and here's hoping this show wont ruin Defender's story line.

Claire's there because she picked up the flyer for Colleen's self defense classes at the end of Luke Cage. Besides, she was easily the best part of the show. They really should have gotten an actual Asian character to play Danny.

Ok that I forgot but for me her character is not fitting here. May be because of the bad writing. (sm1)

My Thoughts On Iron Fist after watching series, Contain Spoiler

Watched all episodes
My mini review, Tried to save as much as possible from spoiling.
Spoiler: show
I was expecting a lot to show. A good hype created by Netflix and trailer was promising too.
As the show starts. It sets a good theme and story. In initial 5 episodes, Danny Rand tries to get back his identity. Collen Wing also set a strong appearance.
You will soon start to hate the show and will be disappointed when Dany Rand accepts the challenge of evil organization HAND and shows his martial art talent. Unfortunately, you will not find any good fighting scene that you expect to this level of show, even not that powerful hand punch utilized well.
Not only fighting scene but the romantic scene is a big time failure. This guy even does not know how to kiss a lady. Seriously, Love Scene Sucks.
As story progress. Show start to loose grip. Character and storyline become more confusing. Their appearance does not reflect what they are.
In the End, You will hope a big fighting and full of action finale. Believe me. It is a big disappointment. it becomes worse and you start to curse it. LOLZ
poorly written and staged

Marvel's Dare Devil SUPERB
Marvel's Jessica Jones Below Average
Marvel's Luke Cage Average
Marvel's Iron Fist Poor

I dont understand why people dont like Jessica Jones and Luke Cage. I mean they were really good and well written. Daredevil is indeed better then rest 3, but other those 2 shows are really underrated. Iron Fist on the other hand is a flop (sm1)
