[SOLVED] [NBA] SSD - Budget <10k

I want to buy SSD Between (50GB to 70GB) under 10k budget. The best possible with fast read and write time.

My system specs are:
Corei5 2400
P8H67-V Board Sata 6GB/sec Capable
500GB WD Black Drive
8GB of Corsair XMS3 1600MHZ

1. Please advise me which SSD drive is good for me with manufacturer name and model number?
Also tell me how to utilize its performance.
2. Install win7 in it and enjoy fast startup, browsing and file search and use my WD drive for data storage? or
3. Use it as a cache drive for WD hard drive, i don't know the procedure but watched it on linus tech tip that it can be use as cache drive for better performance?

Corsair Force 3 60 GB (THIS IS THE BEST PERFORMING) according to Tom's (its 130USD on amazon)

Crucial m4 64 GB
OCZ Agility 3 60 GB (THIS IS THE BEST COST to PERFORMANCE ratio) 100 USD

In real world application.... the difference from Corsair to OCZ agility is not noticable.......
Its like 2700K vs 2600K sandybridge.......2700k 60USD more... for 100mhz....
your paying ALOT for little gain that is UNNOTICABLE....

1. Corsair Force 3 or OCZ Agility 3 (cheaper nearly identical performance)

2. Use it as a WIN7 boot drive and install your Most Played games only (storage to HD)

3. I recommend Win7 Boot and NOT AS CACHE
Usage as cache is good but ALOT of bugs and firmware issues abound...If your "Benchmarking" then ok
otherwise for daily use its a HEAD ACHE... and not every SSD works with every HD for cache...

The Crucial vs OCZ difference is by no means that of the 2600 to 2700.

Secondly, considering we're living in Pakistan without any official distributor for either of those manufacturers, SSDs in particular, so they'll have to be imported.

While they are priced very similar, the OCZ drive has a DOA rate of 35% which is a lot considering it is to be imported countered by a 3.5% DOA rate of the Crucial ones.
As far as speed is concerned, both the drives have very similar read speeds, but the write speeds on the OCZ drive are miles ahead. Almost 3-3.5x more than the Crucial one.

The Corsair drive is very good though, benefiting from the Sandforce controller, which is a pity that Crucial didn't use the same.


As far as the last question is concerned, how exactly do you aim to use it as a cache drive for a hard drive?

i would recommend that u get it from AIProtech....Mushkin 60GB and avoid the chances of DOA as it will be in warranty ..

That's a very bad choice considering you have a H67 board. Really really bad considering you can get much better stuff for the same price from abroad, in warranty too.

That's precisely what I meant when I stated 'importing'. -_-

That said, stay away from OCZ Vertex and Agility 3. Samsung, Corsair and Crucial are very good alternatives considering the DOA rates.

As someone said, you'd have to import these SSD's. Over here in Pakistan, we don't have any good variety or either performing ones.

Oh haan! Do consider the Kingston Hyper X 250gb being sold by Rehman on the PG Premium Market Place.

That's an EPIC EPIC ssd in a pretty decent price here. Totally worth it and blows these others off their perch.

^ SSD Caching isn't of -much- benefit anyway.

Sure it's nice to have it, but nothing to die for.

That said, true. Only z68 LGA1155 boards support that. But again, to f*ck with the fast load times in programs you open often. Just completely install the program, say Word, or the games you play on the SSD and you're good to go. In the end, it's the read speed that matters, and SSDs with SATA3 really benefit with the extra bandwith unlike HDDs, so that's that.

well if u can afford to put in more ram ---then ram cachig is the next thing --- its faster -- obvious u loose all data when u reboot but what the hell ---still gives a kick .

How about getting a used(not much) ssd,this will thwart the chance of it being DOA,since it will be used a bit.

Used SSDs aren't a very good option. They already have a timed life. I wouldn't opt for a used SSD ever. But that's just my opinion.
