Yesterday when I hit the power button on PC there was a 'tock' sound and motherboard's power light went off. I realized either MB or PSU is gone.
And I have tested the PSU by shorting its 24-Pin connector and PSU is not working. Is there any other way I can confirm PSU is dead or not?

What options do I have my PC (details mentioned in 'My PC Specs'), my budget is 10k max. I have searched local sites Czone.. they have Corsair and Thermaltake. Which one is better and why? I ran some wattage requirement test results show I need 500-530W, so I think anything above 600 would be overkill.

Requirements:

  • Must be under 10k.
  • Should work for at least 3 years.
  • At least Semi-Modular.

Please help me with your suggestions and reasons.

Thermaltake SMART 630SE will do for you, its 630W. :)

Also, i've been through very bad PSU issues since the last 5 months.
So this is not good.

The last tock that came took out my motherboard.
Hopefully, yours is just fine.

And the recent powersurge took my recent one.
hopefully, this time nothings dead... hopefully.

Make sure to get a stabiliser for your PC.
K electric hasnt been very nice.

Why 630W, just to be on safer side? I have been using Servo Motor based Stabilizer since day one. As I am very near to sea what I think is humidity factor which made this PSU dead.

Its sad to see we are only left with Corsair and Thermaltake, (iAMeXtreme) used to have Xigmatek PSUs but they are gone now.

10K is a good budget. Corsair CX series is best. You can get same PSU in Antec but cheaper.

Any specific model for Antec, don't they have different dimensions for their PSUs? I mean do they fit in ATX casings?

Quite true.
Humidity plays a big role to all of us here in Karachi.
Unfortunately that is.

Its good to see you have got protection from the power surges and spikes.

That means however the PSU died has unlikely taken anything else with it.

now for your question.
Its more to do with your budget.
With that PSU You'd save money and get your desired wattage, and on the plus, you can have an overclocking headroom if the need ever arises.
As i said, you've got protection on (No kink i promise) that guarantees a longer life for your PSU.

If you think 630 is too much.
You might be able to find a GX550 CM PSU at around 5k. IF it is available.
that PSU is great as well.

Now for the Corsair PSU, i defnitely have to agree with you.
I bought my Xigmatek from IMX years ago and it served well until last year.
With Corsair the only thing being in market is quite a turn off for me since I want to have the good quality PSU.
Which, CX, CSM and RM does not guarantee.

Currently, i'm going for RMX model since they are the same as RMi Model (Which are actually pretty good, living up to corsairs high end line up quality, for low end. well. lol)

Alright, so the options come down to;

Cooler Master GX55, Thermaltake SMART 630SE or 530SE.

I will check the reviews for the above and make my decision.

Yes you are right about Corsair low and mid tier series. CX series also doesn't have good reviews.

I will buy the PSU in third week of May so keeping this thread open someone might come up with better alternative.

Thanks Chicken (y)
