Wow Chhowni
Assalam u alaikum everybody. Hope y'all are doing well.

So I have finally (see the emphasis on 'finally') decided to go for a new PC. My resolution for 2017 was to game on 4K so I want to build a PC that is able to handle games at that resolution with ease.

I have managed to roughly identify a few components for that purpose but, most importantly, I require some fine tuning, suggestions and specifics to improve upon that list.

Processor: Intel Core i5 or i7 / Sky Lake or Kaby Lake / 'K' series or 'non-K' series
Graphics Card: GTX 1080 (so many variants to choose from!)
RAM: 16GB DDR4 (2133/2666/3200 MHz)
SSD: 250/320GB
PSU: Gold or non-Gold / modular or non-modular
HDD: 1TB suitable for gaming
Casing: Nothing too flashy.
Motherboard: One that conforms to the above specs. and is flexible yet not overkill

My budget is around Rs. 125,000 and I'm willing to buy components second-hand to help fit the budget. Tagging some of the guys I know but I'll appreciate if others can pitch-in with their suggestions. @sunny945 @nafu @rafay22

Thanks

Wasalam. Would absolutely love to help.
My choice would be:

Core i7 6700k @ 34.5k (International warranty) available from umardcm and eezepc
GSkill 2x8gb 8.5k from pakdukaan
Casing S340 Elite (I personally LOVE it and it is available from pakdukaan last I checked)
Crucial MX300 (Price-Performance-Value beast) Amazon.com: Crucial MX300 525GB SATA 2.5 Inch Internal Solid State Drive - CT525MX300SSD1: Computers & Accessories
Motherboard is the most important part to me as all the features come from them. I highly recommend ASrock new Z270 series motherboards. They are absolutely great with wifi AC capabilities. If you like to spend nearly 17k'ish then asrock z270 extreme 4 is a beast (imported) and if you want to go ahead then I would recommend asus z270G (yes it is mATX and it is awesome, mATX is the BEST form factor because lets be real you are never going to go beyond 2 gpu's at MAX). It is my personal favorite mobo to date.
Buy an imported gpu (due to cost, and you know they depreciate in value like crazy, so save every bit on that), I would recommend Asus STRIX 1080.

68 GPU
34 CPU or 24k for 6600k
16 SSD or 9k for patriot blast 240gb (it is amazing, I am using it)
9 RAM
13 CASE
17 MOBO
With these all new items it is 141k total, you can crash some parts from this like case maybe. GPU is the most expensive part but for 4k it is the minimum.

I would suggest get GTX 1080 n then build around it ur setup
For gaming there is absolutely no major difference between i7 n i5 especially when GPU is so beefy n ur aiming for 4K, so grab 6500 a non-K CPU which can be overclocked also. Check digital foundary for gaming performance of all CPUs (will add a link in next post)
Casing if u have budget then get 10-11k NZXT S340 (not the elite)

GTX 1080 - 59k in used (@deltoid)
MSI Z170A - 20k ni5 6600k - 20k
(@Gamer World or umardcm)
Or
I5 7600k + Z270 motherboard - 48.5k (@motasim)
Ram - 11k (@syed misbah)
Or this guy is also selling some good stuff (@FaizanRGB)
Casing - 11k (@DSM1)

That makes 121k already ...
Add 15k for an SSD+1TB HDD

New prices you can check any website

i think above 2 recommendations are more than good and you just need to follow them. what i can say is that instead of going for a brand new with warranty go for what opetian is recommending this way it would let you make a i7 7th gen in your budget and this machine will surely a killer in this price and will let you play games at your desire settings.
gtx1080 there are so many deals for them in marketplace new and used so check them out and grab one.

Thank you for the valuable suggestions guys. (y)

For future-proofing purposes, would you guys suggest the Kaby Lake processors be a better option than Sky Lake? Is there any major performance gain to be had?

Secondly, if I go for the non-K processors would I be saving a lot on both the motherboard and the processor itself? And rafay22, are the Z270/Z170 boards absolutely essential for 'K' processors? Wifi and Bluetooth features would be a huge plus for me.

And what's up with these GTX 1080 variants? They range from 60k to 80k and above? o_O

'Z' series chipset is absolutely essential with a 'k' cpu as none other chipset like 'H' or 'B' support overclocking. I recommend you to buy z270 board instead of z170 due to some really cool features and stability. 6th and 7th gen 'k' cpu's are very much identical. Clock for clock there is 0% difference, yes 0%, I am not saying this but benchmarks are. Otherwise 7th gen cpus can generally be OC'ed higher, to 5ghz marks and some other minor improvements.

Look into these videos ... For gaming at such high resolution you don't need all that CPU horsepower

Especially these two comparisons

Skylake processors gaming performance

Kabylake Gaming performance

With a powerful GPU, from i3 to i5 all give similar results, only i7 performance is better than the bunch. K or non K doesn't matter ... Especially skylake i5 6500 n kabylake i3 7350k are an amazing value for money

you need to just search for gtx 1080 8gb version and whatever variant you are able to get in good price. don't worry about different variants and aftermarket cools much.
if you are not able to get a cheap k series 170 or 270 mobo then go for H110m and regarding other things like BT/WIFI it can be purchased separately and btw there are so many premium sellers selling those k series processors in very good price so you can check their shops etc

@sunny945

worth to shift from i7 4790K @4.9ghz 24hour water cooled to kabby lake 7700K?
means whole setup board pro rams
noway
although there is little difference in both's performance in some benchmarks, in some benchmarks even the 4790 performs better than 7700k.
Intel Kaby Lake: Core i7-7700K – Performance, gaming and overclocking

you maybe able to overclock 7700k to much more than 4.9ghz but still i think when it comes to upgrade there is no need to do that.
according to so many reviews the difference between 6th gen and 7th gen is very very little and intel failed to bring more performance to their next gen cpus:

Ok so I've pretty much finalized which processor and mobo combo I'm going for. Let's talk about SSD's now

Is it true the failure rate and data corruption for SSD's is quite high? Samsung SSD's are supposedly quite great on that front but I can't seem to find them anywhere on retail stores online. And I'm definitely not buying risky components without a few years of local warranty. Any suggestions?

And on another note, will it be wise to shift entirely towards SSD and leave out the HDD?

you need to view this link when you want to know about the failures of SSD:
SSD reliability in the real world: Google's experience | ZDNet

regarding finding it i saw some brand new ssds in pg marketplace and regarding warranty, its really good to have warranty for ssd but not good when the price is really to high. i saw samsung pro series ssd available in marketplace for a very good price and brand new here:
Samsung 850 PRO 256Gb ~ Patriot Blast 240gb ~ Seagate 1500GB -2.5 inch ~ ThermalTake Core V51 Case

and some results from datacenter guys here:
Debunking SSD Myths | Network World

but still SSD are ssds and everbody wants them at all costs.

the new one costs around 18k with warranty so this one is sealed without warranty in a good price so check it out.

Ten years international warranty? Has anybody ever tried claiming international warranty? I'd like some feedback on this before I go ahead with it. sunny945

And what's the best company for HDD's nowadays? Seagate or WD? Anything specific I should look for before going ahead with ordering the 1TB version?

basically Seagate is better than WD Green and WD Black is better than Seagate. i think don't put yourself in WD Colors like Green, black, blue, purple etc just go with seagate and if you are getting 1tb then Seagate 6GBPS 7200.14 that is ST1000DM003 to be specific it has 64mb and will be best for you.

regarding powersupply Thermaltake TR2 700w will be more than enough for you. although most of the gtx1080 requires around 200w and even a 600w will be enough for you but i think get yourself a 700w TR2 for future point of view. it is available in 10500 on czone and you maybe able to find it in even better price

Why 4K though? Do you already have a 4K TV that you're focusing on?

In my honest opinion, the GTX 1080 is a waste, given how costly they are locally. I'd recommend you build a strong base PC first and then add on the graphics card. Sure this is going to be a gaming PC but still, the better the base components, the better the long-term performance.

If you've relatives in the US, there are some fantastic deals on Radeon R9 Fury cards these days (220$). These cards are kings of 1440p gaming.

I recently built a budget gaming PC for a family friend and in 50k I could only get the base stuff, and that too for a totally budget PC (i3-6300, B150M, basic DDR4 etc). You have a great budget but if you spend more than half of it on a GTX 1080, the rest of the system won't be up to par.
