I am using 5770 with q6600. I am thinking of upgrading my gpu.
If I go with gtx 560 or 6870, would experience any performance diff?
My cpu is quite old so that is why asking.

Q6600 is a quad core processor and most of the latest games use 4 cores, so no tension here. And yes switching to good GPU will give you performance boost, But selection of GPU is entirely dependent on the resolution you will be playing at

If i were you I would rather upgrade my setup to sandy bridge first. your GPU is not that bad for the time being.

My current resoultion is 1440 by 900. Can buy a new 1080p display .
Would a 5770 and 6950 give same fps if 5770 runs at 1440 by 900 and 6850 runs at 1080p?

hmmmm... u have a quad core but as u mentioned a very very old one...
I can bet that its bottlenecking ur current 5770 and it will continue to do for any higher GPU..

As u can see here the current Intel G620 outperforms a quad core...

So u shud realy upgrade the whole system , and ur current GPU shud perform reasonably well with a prcoessor upgrade

Go for Something Like 560Ti But Better Upgrade Your CPU 1st To Take Full Advantage Of GPU upgrade

Yes , plus it gives u an option to upgrade ur GPU anytime in cuming 2-3 years as well.
