Hello, Guys I am in the market to buy a gaming laptop. My Budget as mentioned is 130k-135k.
I am gravely confused as to what should I do I have got two options as for now

  • 1st Option: New Laptop
I can buy either Lenovo Y50 for 120k or HP Omen for 127k, both with 4th gen i7 and GTX 860

  • 2nd Option: Used Laptop
I can go for used laptops like Lenovo Y50, Y70, Asus G751, GL 771, MSI GE70 and others(some of them with newer graphics like 960M instead of 860m) in this range for about 85k-120k

I am seriously confused as to what should I do, apparently I can get a better product for less amount if i take the 2nd option but then the reliability of a used product is bugging me, God forbid something bad happens I will lose all my money and regret making the decision.

I need some serious advice as to what should I do

While I'll have to look up now onto specs for each of those laptop I can clearly see reliability is a big thing for you but then again even if you buy new laptop in Pakistan who will entertain it's warranty?

A little more information like where you're getting it from, your location and what kind of warranty you're getting etc?

Most of the laptops are 8GB Core i7 GTX 860M/960M.

I didn't get your point about reliability being a big thing, If I am spending 100k+ on something won't I expect it to work for atleast 1-2 years. What use it is if it fails in a month or so. Still warranty provides some cover for any problems that could arise, buying a used product means that 1st it could have some faults and 2nd there is no cover whatsoever and you are stuck with it.

I have no experience with used products, so I am a bit reluctant.

I am from Hyderabad, The New Y50 I am getting from a trusted local dealer with international warranty and HP Omen from Daraz.pk without warranty.
as for the used one there are plenty of people on pg to buy from like annosaad (he is trustworthy) or other marketplace people.

There is amazon thing too, But I dont have a good experience importing things from amazon (delays, Frauds etc).

I agree that you should always expect more from your product regardless buying new or used when you're spending that much but then again it comes down to that with new you'll be getting warranty unless there's a good deal on used item with warranty.
So, if you think your trusted local dealer will honor the warranty then go for it but then you say it's "international warranty" that means it most likely won't be covered locally. I'm not aware of Lenovo Official Service Centers/Dealers in Pakistan but I could be wrong. Just make sure he says that if any issue arises he'll get it repaired/replaced through official channels.

I'll have to see some benchmarks between 860/960M as I don't stay too much into laptop but last Christmas I bought MSi Ghost Laptop which was a limited gold edition for my partner and it had 800-Series GTX card and it runs games very smoothly even the likes of AC Unity (according to her) and she never had any issues with it, therefore you won't be getting mediocre specs with 800 Series card but unless there's a huge performance gain in 900 Series mobile cards then I wouldn't bother with used product at all. I'm just like you in this regard, I'd prefer New item over Used any day regardless of the cost and since you're spending good chunk of money I'd suggest go with something like new product from your trusted local dealer that you can take it to if any issue arises, hope it helps.

Alternative for Amazon, you can always consult Jshak and amaga as they're trusted people to import stuff, if you're referring to Amazon Import Shop on PG that was here before by LoydGanks and such and it went down, then I was a victim of that too but I got my refund after a while but rest assured I have yet to hear any complain against Jshak or Amaga and if you consider "used" item or if your local dealer won't entertain local warranty and it's just international then I'd highly suggest Amazon as you can get a great deal over there on it than you usually would over here unless it's on PG marketplace but then it's a used item and the risk factor chimes in.

Let me know if you need any further assistance.

I am a bit reluctant to go for a used laptop, due to the reliability problems that usually come with used laptops like battery screen or performance(in the terms of gaming). Do you have a good experience with used gaming laptops?

Your are in the same state of confusion as I am right now. Planning to buy a laptop for video editing and has a budget of around 1k but confused which thing to buy and from where. Spending such an amount is making me to think twice about warranty and what if anything happens to my newly bought laptop, how would be it covered in the warranty.btw hp Omeni s in my list too.

did you try setting up Google Payments? For UBL you may have to get it enabled for internet transactions, Naya should work without it!

I tried both NayaPay, and UBL, but I keep getting "correct country selected..." error. I already have PK set there 🤦‍♂️

Did y'all see the new Assassin's Creed trailer? They finally made a AC set in Japan & then they put a negro as the male protagonist. Ubisoft is taking cues from Disney, and it isn't gonna end well for them, just like Disney. Go woke, go broke!

if we are moving towards more and more popular trash across platforms that make billions for companies, I'm happy with all the barriers and exclusivity because at least that brings some pressure to create good stuff.
