Marvel And Netflix Announce Daredevil Season 3

After months of speculation, Marvel has made it official: Daredevil will be returning to Netflix for a third season.

The announcement was made during one of Marvel’s many presentations at San Diego Comic Con. Joe Quesada confirmed the news just moments ago at their panel where they discussed Luke Cage, Iron Fist - and of course - Daredevil.

[h=1]Netflix Says No New Daredevil or Jessica Jones Until 2018[/h]

When one considers just how big the Marvel Universe on Netflix has become, it’s sometimes hard to remember that it’s been less than two years since the first season of Daredevil arrived to both massive fanfare and critical raves. The streaming giant has made great strides in bringing superheroes to its subscribers on an annual basis, but with more heroes on the way it seems something will have to give.
Daredevil and Jessica Jones have already established the Netflix corner of the MCU. Meanwhile, Luke Cage and Iron Fist’s solo debuts are on the menu, The Defenders is coming up, and The Punisher’s spin-off is waiting in the wings. That leaves fans wondering when exactly there will be a Daredevil season 3 or Jessica Jones season 2. Will Netflix stick to its established schedule of releasing only two new seasons per calendar year? The answer to that question has now been confirmed as yes.
During the summer TCA press tour, Netflix boss Ted Sarandos was asked when viewers could expect more solo adventures starring The Man Without Fear and perhaps the world’s most cynical private investigator. Unfortunately for those impatiently waiting for the return of Daredevil and Jessica’s respective series, Sarandos clarified that Netflix is sticking to its two seasons a year release strategy, and that the two available slots in 2017 will be occupied by Iron Fist and The Defenders.

Marvel/Netflix sked: Luke Cage, Iron Fist, Defenders THEN 2nd and 3rd seasons of the other shows and Punisher.
— Natalie Abrams (@NatalieAbrams) July 27, 2016
Is Jon Bernthal in Marvel's Defenders? "Stay tuned," Ted Sarandos says. #TCA16
— Chris E. Hayner (@ChrisHayner) July 27, 2016
While that’s not entirely unexpected — and fans will get to partially reconnect with Matt Murdock and Jessica Jones during The Defenders’ 13 episodes — it does beg the question of how exactly 2018’s schedule will shake out for Marvel’s Netflix properties. Jessica Jones season 2 was previously said to be filming back to back with The Defenders, so it seems logical that Jones will fill the spring 2018 slot.
The real question mark is the fall 2018 slot, with both The Punisher season 1 and Daredevil season 3 seeming like logical contenders for the spot. If Marvel and Netflix absolutely refuse to go to three releases a year, that means it’ll be over three whole years from now before fans get to see either Frank Castle’s solo debut or see how the fallout of The Defenders has affected Daredevil. Regarding the prospect of Castle appearing in some capacity during The Defenders, Sarandos played coy, only saying “stay tuned.”
While there’s something to be said for having things to look forward to, announcing new TV shows this far out from their premiere is still a fairly new idea for the medium, and there’s a chance the patience of Marvel fanatics might end up being tested as the months and years drag on. On the other hand, the longer wait time between seasons will give writers and producers more time to work and to break stories, and that could very well make the wait well worth everyone’s time.
Daredevil season 1 & 2 and Jessica Jones season 1 are now available on Netflix. Luke Cage season 1 will arrive on September 30th, 2016. The Defenders and Iron Fist arrive in 2017. Release dates for Jessica Jones season 2, The Punisher and Daredevil season 3 have not yet been announced.

[h=1]Daredevil Season 3 Confirmed to Start Filming This Year[/h]

Marvel’s Daredevil is now confirmed to begin filming its next season this year, keeping the show’s third season on-course to premiere in 2018. Kicking off the Netflix corner of the MCU, Daredevil surprised critics and fans jaded by the poorly-received film adaptation by delivering an action-packed show full of intrigue and strong character work. Even better, comic book readers finally got a version of the Devil of Hell’s Kitchen that they’d been hoping to see on screen for years. Based on the reception, it came as little surprise when Marvel/Netflix then announced that Daredevil season 2 would be happening.
Since then, Marvel have officially introduced each of its street-level heroes and Daredevil opened its world up to ninjas and mysticism in its second season. It also introduced characters like Elektra and The Punisher, both of which will feature in the future of the MCU. In a few months, just about everyone will be coming together for The Defenders, which is said to pick up a short time after Daredevil’s last adventures. We’ve also known since San Diego Comic-Con last summer that Daredevil would be getting a third season somewhere down the line, with most estimates pegging 2018 as the release year.

During an interview with Boogaloo Radio (hat tip to MCU Exchange), Daredevil star Charlie Cox offered an update on Daredevil season 3, saying “I do that later in the year. We’ll go back and do that.” That suggests that the show’s third season will indeed be premiering on Netflix sometime next year.

Since Netflix debuts all the episodes of a show’s new season at once, they don’t follow a regular TV production schedule. That means if Daredevil season 3 begins shooting in the fall, giving Cox a break following the promotion blitz for The Defenders, it’ll likely be 6—8 months before it’s ready to air. That could put Daredevil season 3 in the same March spot as season 2 and Iron Fist season 1. Given the recent news that Jessica Jones season 2 is already filming, the latter may be the Marvel show hitting Netflix in March 2018 instead. Assuming Luke Cage season 2 also starts filming this year, we can expect Daredevil either in the summer slot of The Defenders, or in the fall (where the first seasons of Luke Cage and Jessica Jones premiered).
Once The Defenders premiers, we will have a better idea about what threat Daredevil will be facing alone next. There’s a good chance Madame Gao and the Hand will continue to be a problem, and it’s also a safe bet that Kingpin will be returning. Daredevil season 3 may even introduce another villain altogether, with the money being on Bullseye right now. The popular Daredevil baddie has been rumored to join the show since season 2, so odds are it will happen eventually. (Either that, or maybe we’ll finally see Stilt-Man in action after all of those Easter eggs.)

The Defenders
arrives on August 18th, with The Punisher coming later this year. Daredevil seasons 1 and 2, Jessica Jones season 1, Luke Cage season 1, and Iron Fist season 1 are now available on Netflix. Premiere dates for the next seasons of Jessica Jones, Daredevil, and Luke Cage have not yet been revealed.

[h=1]Daredevil Season 3 Reportedly Starts Filming This October[/h]

A new report claims that season 3 of Marvel and Netflix’s Daredevil will begin filming later this October. Since the creation of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, few of the Marvel TV titles have received quite the same level of hype and critical acclaim around them as the first two seasons of Daredevil did. After finally bringing a faithful version of Matt Murdock (Charlie Cox) to the screen, Daredevil went on to do the same thing with both Jon Bernthal’s Frank Castle/The Punisher and Elodie Yung’s Elektra in its subsequent sophomore season.
Now, Cox is set to reprise his role as Daredevil again in Netflix’s upcoming miniseries event, The Defenders, where he will be teaming up for the first time with Jessica Jones (Krysten Ritter), Luke Cage (Mike Colter), and Danny Rand/Iron Fist (Finn Jones). But fortunately, fans won’t have to wait much longer after that before Daredevil returns for season 3 after the series was renewed again at San Diego Comic-Con in 2016.

But much to the confusion of fans, details regarding the story and production of Daredevil season 3 have been curiously lacking over the past few months. However, MCU Exchange is reporting that Daredevil season three will begin filming in New York sometime in the latter half of October, around the same time as Halloween. Whether or not that holiday will play into the setting or time frame of the new Daredevil season, though, is not yet known.

It’s not much of a surprise that Marvel and Netflix have held off on beginning shooting for Daredevil‘s third season so far this year. As it is, the two companies are already busy enough right now, with production on both Jessica Jones season 2 and Luke Cage season 2 having been underway for several months now. When taking into account some previous comments about Daredevil season 3, it was also somewhat expected that Marvel and Netflix were going to be premiering the new seasons of Luke Cage and Jessica Jones first.
At the same time, the new seasons of Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, Daredevil, and Iron Fist are all expected to be premiering over the next year, which means that production on the latter two would have to begin sometime within the next few months. Currently, not much is known about what to expect from the new seasons of any of those shows either, and very little likely will be until after The Defenders is released at the end of this week. There’s no telling how that team-up event may change/alter the arcs of the main four Defenders – Matt Murdock included – and how exactly the next season of Daredevil does or does not pick up from where The Defenders leaves off, will have to wait to be seen.

[h=1]Daredevil Season 3 Character Breakdown Hints at New Villain[/h]

[SPOILERS for The Defenders ahead.]–
A description for a new character in Daredevil season 3 hints at one of the comic book villains that Matt Murdock (Charlie Cox) will battle next. Production for the third season of Marvel and Netflix’s Daredevil TV show is slated to begin this fall, with Cox returning alongside fellow series mainstays Deborah Ann Woll and Elden Henson as Karen Page and Foggy Nelson, respectively. Details beyond that, however, have yet to be revealed, though Daredevil season 2 and The Defenders showrunners Douglas Petrie and Marco Ramirez are expected to oversee Daredevil season 3 from behind the camera.
The final shot of The Defenders teased what’s to come in Daredevil season 3, showing that Matt had survived the destruction of The Hand’s New York headquarters at the end of the miniseries and was now being treated by a group of nuns. Moreover, that scene clearly draws visual inspiration from Frank Miller’s “Born Again” Daredevil comic book story arc and has since prompted much speculation about how much that famous 1986 narrative will inform Daredevil season 3’s overarching plotline. There are sure to be differences between the two, of course, and the aforementioned character breakdown may provide a clue about one of those very changes.
[h=4]Related: Charlie Cox Teases Daredevil Season 3 Storyline[/h]That Hashtag Show has revealed a breakdown for a new Daredevil season 3 character who is referred to as simply “Steve”, but which THS speculates could, in fact, refer to the Marvel/Netflix version of the comic book villain Stanley Carter aka. Sin-Eater. For more on that, read the description of “Steve” below:
28-35, 5’9-6’1, Open ethnicity. An athletic but socially awkward FBI Agent, needs structure and rules to suppress the darkness inside himself. Athletic with medium build, responsible and resourceful, hair trigger temper. SERIES REGULAR

The Sin-Eater was introduced in Peter Parker, The Spectacular Spider-Man comic book issue #107, as a former S.H.I.E.L.D. agent who gains near super-human strength through experimental treatments and eventually became a vigilante, determined to punish (or kill, in certain cases) those in positions of power who had “sinned” and abused their authority. However, as is noted by THS, there is some question about whether or not Sony has their own plans for the character, as part of their developing Spider-Man antihero film universe.
There are certainly parallels between the Sin-Eater and Frank Castle aka. The Punisher (Jon Bernthal) in Daredevil season 2; meaning that while the former’s appearance in Daredevil season 3 would be in keeping with the show’s ongoing exploration of vigilantism and the line between the law and law-breakers, a Sin-Eater storyline could feel like a rehash of The Punisher’s original story arc in the Marvel/Netflix corner of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Then again, it sounds as though “Steve” will start out in a much-different place than Frank did, helping to distinguish their respective character journeys on Daredevil in the process.
Beyond that, it seems safe to assume that Sin-Eater (assuming he appears) won’t be the sole antagonist in Daredevil season 3. Daredevil season 2 set the stage for Kingpin (Vincent D’Onfrio) to seek revenge against Daredevil in season 3 from prison, a la how the character sets out to dismantle Matt Murdock’s life in the “Born Again” comic book storyline. There are also the longstanding rumors that Bullseye will make his MCU debut in Daredevil season 3 to consider – not to mention, the strong possibly that like Matt, Elektra Natchios (Elodie Yung) managed to cheat death yet again at the end of The Defenders. In other words: just like in “Born Again”, Matt’s life is probably about to become a whole lot more difficult.

[h=1]Marvel's Daredevil Season 3 Confirmed For 2018 Premiere On Netflix[/h]

Netflix will debut the third season of Daredevil before the end of 2018. A few years back, Netflix launched their corner of the MCU by taking a street-level approach to superheroes. The Hell's Kitchen side of this universe began with Daredevil but has quickly become populated by several other familiar faces from Marvel comics. The first season was a such a success that Netflix quickly moved to get a second season in, all before The Defendersbrought the heroes together. By the time that mini-series wrapped up, the foundation had been laid for Daredevil's third season.
It has been known for quite some time that another season of Daredevil was on the way and filming began late last year. Netflix's typical schedule and model led many to believe that the series would return at some point in 2018, but the increased output for Marvel projects brought about reservations of this actually being the case. There's no need to wonder when Daredevil returns anymore.

Netflix held their Q2 earnings call recently and during the call, their CFO David Wells confirmed Daredevil is returning in 2018. Wells mentions Daredevil along with a few other titles (including Iron Fist) as shows to look out for over the second half of this year. Read his quote courtesy of Seeking Alpha:
I have got the great pleasure of trying to make people very happy and in the short term we’ve got new seasons coming up the second half of this year of Orange Is The New Black, Ozark, Iron Fist, Daredevil, Narcos, the finale of House of Cards, the followup series for Making a Murderer.

Now that it's confirmed by Netflix that Daredevil will return in 2018, the only question that remains is when exactly it will debut. Netflix won't want to put out two new seasons of their different Marvel shows too close to each other. Iron Fist is returning at the beginning of September, so Daredevil's earliest return may be November. If it isn't released around the same time as The Punisher was last year, then a December release could also be possible.
This isn't just great news for Daredevil, but it further highlights Netflix's commitment to making their Marvel shows. After increasing their output to three shows a year in 2017 with Iron Fist, The Punisher, and The Defenders, 2018 will hold new seasons for all of their core four series. Jessica Jones season 2 premiered in March; Luke Cage season 2 premiered in June; Iron Fist debuts next month; and now Daredevil season 3 is confirmed to start streaming before the end of the year. If this becomes the new norm, then new seasons of Daredevil and co. should be expected on a near yearly basis.

Daredevil season 3 will premiere on Netflix in 2018.

[h=1]Daredevil Season 3: Wilson Bethel Possibly Confirmed as Bullseye[/h]

An Instagram post from a personal trainer appears to have confirmed that Wilson Bethel is playing the part of Bullseye in Daredevil season 3. There have long been rumors that Bullseye would eventually appear in Daredevil, but it seems that the team behind the series have been holding out on introducing the character for some time.
The first season featured a brief tease for the character, with one of Fisk's hired guns carrying an ace playing card in his bag. Attentive fans quickly realized that this was a hint the Marvel Netflix shows would eventually feature Bullseye - that's something of a calling card for the assassin. Bullseye's presence in season 3 was seemingly confirmed in May, when an image of a season 3 swag bag was posted online, which featured a new logo. It didn't take long for actor Wilson Bethel's name to become associated with the character.

Those reports have apparently been confirmed, albeit from an unlikely source. Arazi Fitness personal trainer Naqam Washington shared an image on his Instagram account, showing him training with Bethel and Daredevil star Charlie Cox. Perhaps unwisely, Washington tagged the post "#Daredevil and #Bullseye."

When Bethel was cast for Daredevil season 3 back in November last year, it was originally reported that he was playing a mystery FBI agent. It was clear that Bethel was playing a key villain, and initial suggestions were that he was actually the MCU's version of the Sin-Eater. But the FBI role increasingly looks to be little more than a cover, with Marvel hiring Bethel for a very different character. Of course, it's entirely possible that Bullseye is himself undercover at the FBI, and uses that role to hunt down Daredevil.

Bullseye is Daredevil's definitive villain in the comics, a dark mirror-image of the Man Without Fear who has tested the superhero's morality like few others. A sociopath assassin-for-hire, he is famed for the precision of his marksmanship. Daredevil's enhanced senses have made him one of the few people who can dodge one of Bullseye's projectiles, and Bullseye bitterly resents that. Over the years, their feud has become a deep, dangerous vendetta, one that has seen Bullseye target Matt's closest friends and family. During the "Shadowland" arc, it was Bullseye's bloodthirsty villainy that pushed Daredevil to breaking point; he finally killed his nemesis. (These are comics, of course, so Bullseye was resurrected within the space of just a few issues.)

It's generally believed that Daredevil season 3 will take
loose inspiration from Frank Miller's classic "Born Again" arc. Bullseye didn't appear in that story, but in truth it's no surprise to see Marvel deviate from the source material a little. This is one change to the comics that nobody will mind, of course; viewers have been eager to see the MCU's Daredevil throw down with a new version of Bullseye.

[h=1]EXCLUSIVE: Daredevil Season 3 Lost 57% Of Season 2 Viewership In First Week[/h]

Daredevil season 3's viewership was less than half that of season 2 in its first week. That's according to viewing figures provided exclusively to Screen Rant, which indicate just how the Marvel Netflix shows are really performing on the streaming service.
Netflix considers their viewing figures to be a closely-guarded secret. In the absence of firm data, though, certain analytics companies have stepped forward to offer unique insight into the popularity of various Netflix series. Screen Rant has spoken exclusively to Jumpshot, a San Francisco-based analytics company. Their anonymized global panel tracks five billion actions a day across 100 million devices to deliver insights into online consumer behavior. They've been monitoring the Netflix Originals since 2016, looking at the viewing behavior and activity of their US members. While Jumpshot's data does have limitations - most notably that this only covers US audiences - it does still give a sense of just what's going on with the Marvel Netflix shows. Early this week we reported that Iron Fist and Luke Cage's second seasons suffered a massive drop in viewership, now we look at the Devil of Hell's Kitchen

According to Jumpshot, Daredevil season 2 is still the most-watched Marvel Netflix series since 2016. Season 3 hasn't fared as well; when Jumpshot compared the first weeks of the two seasons, they found viewership had dropped by 57 percent. The first week is a critical period for the Marvel Netflix shows (and, indeed, for all Netflix Originals). The bulk of views happen within that first-week window, with a steep drop over the next month or so to a background level.

This is mixed news for Daredevil. On the one hand, it is still quite a dramatic decline in viewership between the two seasons. On the other hand, though, the series is still outperforming the second seasons of both Iron Fist and Luke Cage. That suggests the Daredevil brand is stronger than the other two shows, and may mean Daredevil is safe from cancellation (for now). Season 3 has had strong word of mouth, and hopefully that will mean it takes a little longer to return to that base level in terms of viewership.

But why have views dropped so significantly? One possible factor is that it's been two years since Daredevil season 2. That's plenty of time for even the best series to lose its sense of momentum. Doubly so when there's been seven season of Marvel TV since then of varying quality and decreasing interest. Meanwhile, Daredevil season 2 also had a major draw that this season doesn't have; it featured
the Punisher, another of Marvel's most notable superhero brands. Jon Bernthal's version of the Punisher was popular enough for Netflix to commission a spinoff series, and it's possible he bolstered Daredevil season 2's viewing stats.

Jumpshot's data also suggested both Iron Fist and Luke Cage have lost roughly two-thirds of their viewers between their first and second seasons. That suggests the problem isn't with Daredevil alone, but rather with the entire Marvel Netflix range. Jumpshot has provided Screen Rant
with full data on all the Marvel Netflix shows, which we'll be exploring in detail over the rest of the week.

I'd say Daredevil S3 firmly is the best Marvel show yet, hell better than a lot of MCU movies. It was amazing from the get go, it was so cool to see the return of Matt's original suit and to see him struggle to win fights again due to his injuries. Their individual character stories were pretty great too, especially Agent Nadeem's who blew it out of the park. I really hope Netflix renews it for S4 as Daredevil's future is up in the air.

[h=1]Netflix has canceled Daredevil after three seasons[/h]

[h=2]Jessica Jones is the only remaining Marvel Netflix show[/h]

Another Marvel Netflix co-production has come to an end as the streaming giant announced on Thursday night that it has canceled Daredevil, the first of the company’s collaborations with Marvel Entertainment, after three seasons.
This news comes just two months after the release of Daredevil’s positively received third season. Daredevil is the latest in a streak of cancellations by Netflix of Marvel shows. In October, both Luke Cage andIron Fist were canceled after just two seasons. This is part of a larger trend of Netflix parting ways with shows produced by other companies that have their own streaming sites, or have announced plans to debut their own streaming sites in the future, such as American Vandal, which was a CBS Studios production. The Walt DisneyCompany, Marvel Entertainment’s corporate parent, has its own streaming service, Disney+, on the way next year.
In a statement from Netflix, the company said, “while the series on Netflix has ended, the three existing seasons will remain on the service for years to come, while the Daredevil character will live on in future projects for Marvel.”
For now, Netflix announced in April 2018 that it would be renewing Jessica Jones for a third season. In December of 2017, Punisher was also renewed for a second season. The two shows are the only remaining Netflix/Marvel productions with announced future seasons.

[h=1]Marvel Releases Official Statement On Daredevil Cancellation[/h]

After the not-entirely-surprising cancellation of Netflix’s Daredevil, Marvel steps in with an official statement, hinting that the Man Without Fear’s adventures are far from over. The news that the show would not continue on to a fourth season on Netflix was at least partially expected, given how Luke Cage and Iron Fist were already given their respective walking papers, as the streaming giant prepares to shore up its original offerings in advance of Marvel’s parent company debuting its own direct-to-consumer streaming service, Disney+. That effort will have lasting ramifications on the television side of Marvel’s live-action universe, leaving audiences with questions regarding the future of characters like Daredevil, Luke Cage, Iron Fist, and, of course, Jessica Jones and the Punisher.
The latter two have their third and second seasons, respectively, on the horizon, and given the way the wind is blowing, with regard to Marvel and Netflix’s partnership, it’s a good bet those seasons will serve as the final ones for both series. But while the collaboration between the House of Ideas and the streaming giant looks to be headed toward its own definitive conclusion, the former isn’t ready to call it quits when it comes to the future of Daredevil.

That’s not to say Marvel has revealed any specific plans for the character, following his series’ cancellation, but the company made it clear that Matt Murdock has a future… somewhere. Whether that means on Disney+ or in theaters or something else entirely is unclear, but perhaps fans can take comfort in the company’s vague assurances it doesn't plan to shelve the character permanently. Check out
Marvel’s official statement as posted on the company’s website:

“Marvel is extremely grateful to the huge audience that loved Marvel's Daredevil. From the moment of young Matt’s first act of heroism to the birth of Page, Murdock, & Nelson, it has been a unbelievable journey. We are incredibly proud of the amazing showrunners and writers starting with Drew Goddard and Steven DeKnight, Marco Ramirez and Doug Petrie and Erik Oleson, Charlie Cox, Deborah Ann Woll, Elden Henson, Vincent D'Onofrio and our casts who brought our characters to life with such excellence, and every one of the fantastic crews in NYC. We look forward to more adventures with the Man without Fear in the future.”

One of the biggest questions right now is, should
a live-action Daredevil continue, what form will it take? Now that it’s off Netflix, will Disney want to reboot the character again, to better fit with its overall plans for the MCU and its upcoming streaming service, or will it chose to pick up where it left off, with Matt, Karen, and Foggy renewing their partnership and beginning anew? Time will only tell, with regard to what's next for the Hero or Hell's Kitchen.

Daredevil seasons 1-3 are available to stream on Netflix.
