martial arts is just fighting... it is not a style... karate is a martial arts style etc... you are better off learning boxing first, then move on to kick boxing or muay thai etc and then finally mixed martial arts or krav maga(quite deadly and awesome too)

Karate,Kung Fu,Judo,etc are all martial arts.
Anyways comparing different Martial arts style is like comparing Cricket to Football or Basket Ball each style has its own unique way and it mostly comes down to how well intone is the martial artist to his skills. Anyways in the end it comes down to personal preference if you have a heavy strong and muscular body Karate,Taekwondo,Kickboxing,Muai Thai etc are for u but if u rely on skill and technique above brute strength then Jujitsu,Ninjutsu,Judo,Kung Fu (although u will need a little above average strength for Kung Fu) should be preferred try a few classes first and see if u are comfortable
