I went to Psifi 2012 representing my school. Secured 2nd position in both robowars and rube goldberg machine competitions. The others are right; it you wanna win something, be ready to spend A LOT of money and input A LOT of effort. We ended up spending a good 7k per team member on our robot alone (school didn't even give us a dime).
Wish I could have gone this year, but freaking end semester exams start 3 days after Psifi -__-
yar thing about all these competitions is that most of the participants are from unis like giki or nust eme so they are badass in their fields..if u want to win get a nerdy team and participate in events related to maths or bio etc..a better chance of winning
Not true. We were school kids and our robot beat the crap out of robots made by students from engg unis. The 1st position robot was made by a school team too (Beaconhouse).
Same goes for the RGM competition, the 1st position holder was a school team from KGS.
Bottomline is that you shouldn't think it's impossible right from the get-go. If you can gather a motivated team and are ready to make a wholehearted effort + spend some cash, then go for it!
