Alright, so now that the poll's done. Lets get to the actual Lets Watch portion of this shebang.

We'll go about it like this:

- Ya'll need to participate in the discussion of the show
- The format is gonna be an episode a day, though if you're busy and can't watch an episode a day then it's cool if you catch up by watching multiple episodes until you're at the episode that's being currently watched.
- Lets say you can't help yourself and watch too many episodes, no posting about future episodes without spoiler tags.
- No stream links, you all know how and where to watch stuff.

Samurai Champloo:

Synopsis:

Fuu Kasumi is a young and clumsy waitress who spends her days peacefully working in a small teahouse. That is, until she accidentally spills a drink all over one of her customers! With a group of samurai now incessantly harassing her, Fuu desperately calls upon another samurai in the shop, Mugen, who quickly defeats them with his wild fighting technique, utilizing movements reminiscent to that of breakdancing. Unfortunately, Mugen decides to pick a fight with the unwilling ronin Jin, who wields a more precise and traditional style of swordfighting, and the latter proves to be a formidable opponent. The only problem is, they end up destroying the entire shop as well as accidentally killing the local magistrate's son.

For their crime, the two samurai are captured and set to be executed. However, they are rescued by Fuu, who hires the duo as her bodyguards. Though she no longer has a place to return to, the former waitress wishes to find a certain samurai who smells of sunflowers and enlists the help of the now exonerated pair to do so. Despite initially disapproving of this idea, the two eventually agree to assist the girl in her quest; thus, the trio embark upon an adventure to find this mysterious warrior—that is, if Fuu can keep Mugen and Jin from killing each other.

Set in an alternate Edo Period of Japan, Samurai Champloo follows the journey of these three eccentric individuals in an epic quest full of action, comedy, and dynamic sword fighting, all set to the beat of a unique hip-hop infused soundtrack. - MAL

@Ranger Taffles impressions:
I recently finished Samurai Champloo so I'm just going to vote for it. Seriously everyone's missing out on a real gem if you've not watched yet. I'll jot down some quick impressions for the sake of arguing in favour:

+ Samurais
+ One of the all-time (start-to-end) greatest OSTs
+ Classic vibes
+ Characters have great chemistry
+ Just really fun

More importantly, as I've sorta discussed this before but anime around early to mids 2000s were special in their own way and this anime is a shining example of that. I loved Cowboy Bebop (same director) but I would not really compare these two cause they're just great in their own time and space.

And I'll again emphasize the soundtrack is just one of a kind. Probably the best all round pieces.

Have fun. ^_^

This is one of those animes that excels in the English dub, like Cowbow Bebop. Even though the anime takes place in an alternate Edo timeline, You're actually going to learn a little about history. About how foreigners were treated, how Christianity was rejectied, how sex workers were treated, how baseball was introduced, and so.

EVERY EPISODE IS CRUCIAL. There are only 2 filler episodes but even those are worth the watch.

The soundtrack is the best, even though Yoko Kanno isn't in this (she's in almost every anime by Shinchiro Watanabe), Nujabes (RIP) really devoted himself to this.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_sccg1CZzi4 (Shiki no Uta) Ending theme
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3eJkpyRzTww (San Fransisco) Finale theme

You can listen to Shiki no Uta and tell how it blends traditional japanese and a little of hip hop and some rap. This summarises the whole anime, It's a mixture of traditional and modern culture, there's comedy, drama, and action.

Cowboy Bebop left people wanting for a sequel, however, Samurai Champloo ties up all lose ends so you're satisfied.

Already watched it, but i'll try participate in the discussions. So let me start..

Loved the first episodes. Mugen's fighting style is really savage plus his Japanese VA accent gives of that rough/loose feeling too ;s caught my attention from the start. The soundtrack as ranger mentioned was awesome as well. Those quotes tho

random person: "You better understand! It's common sense in today's society"
Mugen: "I don't care about your common sense"

I'll watch the episode tonight, soon.

P.S The whole series is available on YouTube in good quality as the creators themselves released it there recently, so if anyone wants to stream it instead of downloading it, here's an extra option.

So watched the first episode. Pretty good first episode. Good action and I like that the series doesn't shy away from violence. Also, it is funny too. I also like how Mugen has this random, savage and aggressive fight style while Jin is sleek and cool. Opposite ends of the coin in a way.

Loved the scene transitions accompanied by those record scratching sounds. The soundtrack is great and the hip hop stuff oddly fits, especially the action sequences, gives them more energy.
