The next game in Avalanche Studios' delightfully chaotic open-world action series, Just Cause, is coming to PlayStation 4, Windows PC and Xbox One next year, Game Informer reports.

Just Cause 3 will send players to the Mediterranean, where they'll be able to play with, in Game Informer's words, "vastly improved parachute and grapple mechanics." Players will also have access to a new wingsuit, which seems to open new possibilities in a franchise where crazy systems meet other crazy systems, resulting in peak crazy — or as Avalanche describes it, "a fine balance between outright stupid and fun."

The new Just Cause is in development at Avalanche Studios' Sweden and New York studios and Square Enix London.

Didn't liked Just cause 2 that much... It would be better if they focused more on quality of gameworld than map size... Looking forward for more info... 2015 will be insane fun year for gamers thats for sure :p

[h=2]Just Cause 3 won't have microtransactions or free-to-play hooks, dev says[/h]

Avalanche Studios downplayed fears today that its new game, Just Cause 3, will feature in-game microtransactions or free-to-play game mechanics, a rumor that spawned after screenshots of the new game leaked ahead of today's official reveal. Christofer Sundberg, co-founder and chief creative officer of Avalanche Studios, said the leak of old screenshots led to "a few misconceptions."

"Those leaked screenshots were taken from an ancient version of Just Cause 3," Sundberg wrote on the developer's website. "Like most games, this one went through an exploratory phase where we looked at different control schemes, different technologies, different business models. Those leaked screenshots show aspects of that process, and in no way reflect the game we are making today."

Just Cause 3, Sundberg said, will be distributed as a retail box and available for download, similar to other AAA games. It's not a free-to-play game, nor does it feature in-game microtransactions, he said.

"Does that mean we'll release the game and call it quits? Nope," Sundberg said. "Beyond launch, we are likely to look into DLC packs and items as part of our ambition to support Just Cause 3 and its players for many years to come, but until that time we're completely focused on making the best Just Cause game we possibly can. Rest assured it will be a huge, fully packed and extremely rewarding experience right out of the gate."

Square Enix and Avalanche Studios announced Just Cause 3 earlier today. The "next generation of chaotic sandbox fun" is slated to come to PlayStation 4, Windows PC and Xbox One in 2015.

[h=2]Just Cause 3 won't ship with multiplayer[/h]

When Just Cause 3 comes to PlayStation 4, Windows PC and Xbox One next year, it will do so without a multiplayer component, developer Avalanche Studios told Game Informer. But that doesn't mean the chaotic sandbox game will never have multiplayer, the developer says.

"Maybe sometime down the line, we'll take Rico into the modern world of multiplaying," said Christofer Sundberg, co-founder and chief creative officer of Avalanche Studios.

The last entry in the franchise, Just Cause 2, got multiplayer support years after its release on PC, thanks to a fan-developed mod (pictured above). It's unofficial, but the free Just Cause 2: Multiplayer Mod is sanctioned by publisher Square Enix. And while no one will say definitively one way or the other, it sounds like the mod team responsible for that feat will work on a follow-up for Just Cause 3.

For now, it sounds like if and when multiplayer comes to the next Just Cause, it probably won't be Avalanche leading the charge.

"We don't expect the fans to make the multiplayer for Just Cause 3, but at some point you have to make a choice on where your focus is," Sundberg said. "Our strength is the sandbox experience, and we want to deliver a great Just Cause 3 experience."

[h=2]Bombastic new Just Cause 3 screens parachute onto the Internet[/h]

Over the weekend, some good-looking, apparently new screenshots for Just Cause 3 just up and materialized on the Internet after forum-goers discovered them in the digital edition of Germany's PlayStation 4 magazine. Though this wasn't an official release from either Square Enix or Avalanche studios, that one above figures to be representative of what's coming this June.

Here's another:

Surfing a jet and throwing its occupant out of the cockpit is par for the course in the Just Cause series, whose smirking, over-the-top action-movie style has made it a fan favorite. Just Cause 3 has been given a ballpark release date in June, and will come out on PlayStation 4, Windows PC and Xbox One.

The screens appeared on GameSpot's reader forums and elsewhere on Saturday, along with a bunch of other details reported in a preview of the game by the German-language PS4 magazine. To see everything users found and managed to pull out, see this link.

[h=2]Scenes from Just Cause 3's destructive playground[/h]

Avalanche Studios took to PAX East today to show off more screenshots from Just Cause 3 during a hosted panel on the game, but it still didn't show off the game in action.

Roland Lesterlin, game director for Just Cause 3, said they're not showing in-game footage yet because they want to do things "the right way."

"We want to put all of the finishing touches on the game and polish before we show it," he said. "It's coming and it's worth it."

Lesterlin and a group of other developers from Avalanche, including studio founder and COO Christofer Sundberg, talked about the history of the series and a bit about the game with Kinda Funny.Com's Greg Miller during the panel.

Details on Just Cause 3 were relatively light, though Sundberg did talk briefly about how important modding is for the series.

"The guys on the Just Cause multiplayer mod team have helped keep Just Cause 2 alive for five years after release," he said. "We've looked a lot at what they've done as we planned out the third game. There is no multiplayer mode in Just Cause 3, we're focusing entirely on the sandbox experience, but we will continue to support and work with the modding community and we will see what happens."

[h=2]Just Cause 3 goes nuts in Mediterranean; massive damage[/h]

Just Cause 3 has moments when all seems serene and beautiful, when it soars above sparkling seas with the wind in its hair. And then it floats gently towards the earth and turns into an absolute headcase.
Like a ferocious animal in a tin box, Just Cause 3 bangs with all manner of violence. There's a part of you that wants to leave the beast well alone, but you know, sooner or later, you're going to unlatch the box and step well back.
What sets it apart from all those other deathly open-world maim-and-kill fantasies is that the whole spectacle is handled with a deft touch of humor and self-mockery. This is not a game that takes itself seriously at all.

It asks that you enjoy the slapstick of breaking things and people. Such a notion may seem contradictory, but there is a kinetic energy within this game that feels mirthful and even human.
It asks that you grab an armful of C4 and some wicked tethers and go mess around with the head of an evil dictator's statue. The end result is entirely satisfying. This is Just Cause 3's reason for existence. It is about enjoying blockbuster violence as a thing of silliness, rather than of reverence.
It approaches monuments and it blows them up.

"I just love action and blowing stuff up," said Christofer Sundberg, founder of developer Avalanche, speaking to Polygon. "That's what games are all about, having fun. I like games that don't take themselves very seriously."
In a live demo at a recent media event, Avalanche showed protagonist Rico Rodriguez rampaging across the Mediterranean archipelago of Medici, destroying stuff in the most ridiculous and amusing ways. At one point, he attacked a coastal oil refinery using an airborne sports car.

Rodriguez moves through this world using his trusty parachute and grappling hook as well as a wingsuit that lets him glide at speed. The grappling hook can tether him to the underside of vehicles or atop aircraft as well as roping things and people together for explosive larks.
Just Cause 3 tries to give you as many tools as possible in order to plan and execute your choreography of ballistics. If you believe a jet fighter will be handy, the game will supply one for you (assuming you have unlocked it). This insta-gratification skirts close to breaking all those game theory rules about placing limitations on player abilities, but there is plenty of challenge in just navigating this world, and encountering its perils.

"It's a gamer's game," says Sundberg. "If it was too easy, I don't think our players would be encouraged to explore and experiment with the game. That's half the experience of the game, just finding those 'holy shit' moments. 'Whoa, I didn't believe you can do that.' Re-creating those moments you see in Michael Bay movies."
Polygon spent an hour with the game at a recent media event, with many of the weapons and abilities in the game unlocked. Just getting to grips with the combination of multiple tethers, parachute, wingsuit and multiple weapons and vehicles is a steep and enjoyable learning curve.
This is one of those games where you can dive in, pretty much literally, and just fool around with stuff, experimenting with different combinations of vehicles, weapons and scenarios.

The Mediterranean setting is as pretty as you might expect, offering different islands of varying sizes, all of which contain nestling targets such as military depots and propaganda outposts. Avalanche's goal with this game, following on from its 2010 predecessor, was to offer more things to do and less open countryside to traverse in between doing those things.
"In Just Cause 2 there was quite a lot of distance between different places," said Sundberg. "That's something we focused quite heavily on for the third game."
Just Cause 3's story is about a character's homecoming and the toppling of a wicked regime. This is nothing we haven't seen before, but it's really a platform upon which Avalanche can tell an origin story for Rodriguez, who has tended to be one of the less striking gaming characters.
"We wanted to give Rico more of a personality in Just Cause 3, and give our players a little background on who he is and why he's doing what he's doing," explained Sundberg. "We know that we can create an interesting world that's tactically amazing. But I think we owe it to Rico to let players get to know him."

But players who are less interested in plot and more interested in 'pow' will get their wings. "We open the world up pretty quickly to make that sandbox really come through," said Sundberg. "It's about the sandbox and how we can give the players more and more tools to have more fun and blow up more stuff in the most spectacular ways. It's about allowing them to show off."
Despite the gaudy collection of missions and mayhem, there are some concessions to good taste. Targets tend to be located in military zones, so that Rodriguez can become a folk hero, and not be blowing up people's homes. But if you really want to blow up residential areas, or just wander around shooting people, you can. If that's your thing.
"It's a very fine balance between the super-serious and being really, really stupid," said Sundberg. "I think we've found that middle ground in all three games. Rico is a superhero, but he's kind of a believable superhero in a world that looks almost photo-realistic where you can do all this crazy stuff.
"In this game, civilians are happy to make sacrifices for the protagonist's cause, no matter what goes down. They sort of sacrifice themselves for the cause. You can steal someone's car and they say, 'oh, enjoy my car!' It's not a very serious game. It's not overly gory. We don't have any torture. It's done in a very humorous style."
Just Cause 3 is due to be released by Square Enix later this year on PlayStation 4, Xbox One and Windows PC.

Yes, I saw it. Can't really say about the actual graphics beforehand and yes, the new additions look good. Avalanche's main focus is on the world and the innovative ways to make the gameplay explosive, entertaining and full of chaos.

It's a sandbox game so they don't really focus that much on the story but yeah, it's a bonus. I enjoyed playing JC2, it was perfect. I expect the same from JC3.

[h=2]This is the Just Cause 3 Collector's Edition[/h]

Fans of Square Enix's action sandbox Just Cause 3 spent the last few months voting on what would be included in the game's collector's edition, and finally settled on a replica of Rico Rodriguez's iconic grappling hook.
The 15-inch model will be part of a massive package, including a pack of exclusive in-game vehicles, a 2-foot square poster of the Meditterranean-themed game world, and a 32-page hardcover art book. The retail price is $109.99, and pre-orders are open now.

The grappling hook beat out other options, including diecast vehicles, an RC copter and multiple dioramas of Rodriguez in action.
Just Cause 3 is coming to PlayStation 4, Xbox One and Windows PC Dec. 1, 2015. You can read more about the game, and hear from the developers, in our article here.

[h=2]Just Cause 3 on Xbox One includes copy of Just Cause 2[/h]

The Xbox One version of Just Cause 3 will come with a copy of Just Cause 2, Microsoft announced today during its Gamescom 2015 press briefing.
Just Cause 2 was originally released in March 2010 on PlayStation 3, Windows PC and Xbox 360. The copy included with Just Cause 3 will be playable on Xbox One via Xbox 360 backward compatibility, a feature Microsoft announced at E3 2015.

Bethesda Softworks is doing something similar with Fallout 4, packing in a copy of Fallout 3 with the Xbox One version of the upcoming game for first-run copies. It's unclear if the Just Cause offer will be limited to pre-order customers or the initial print run.
Microsoft also premiered a new trailer for Just Cause 3, dubbed "Burn It." You can watch the trailer above. Just Cause 3 will be released Dec. 1 on PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.

[h=1]Just Cause 3 Just Doesn’t Do Enough With Its Vast Open-World[/h]

Not unlike the similarly vast open-world game Grand Theft Auto V, it took five years for Just Cause 3 to release after its predecessor with developer Avalanche Studios and publisher Square Enix back at the helm. Where GTA V offered a more dynamic story and a massive multiplayer suite however, Just Cause 3 unfortunately does neither and suffers for it.
Just Cause 2 saw a second wind of success and buzz post-release, its life extended from a dedicated community of fans who modded in multiplayer support for the game. This multiplayer mod was later endorsed by Avalanche and saw an official release on PC. Inexplicably, the developers opted not to include multiplayer in Just Cause 3, leaving the game’s massive 400 square miles of digital environment to be explored all by yourself.

Single-player games, especially open-world ones, do not necessarily need cooperative or competitive play, opting for storytelling and unique personal experiences to keep players invested, or even an in-depth progression system that hooks players in by rewarding them along the way, but Just Cause 3 doesn’t quite deliver on these fronts. That doesn’t mean there’s not fun to be had in taking series protagonist Rico Rodriguez back to his homeland of Medici though.
Just Cause 3’s characters are not its strong suit

This fictional Mediterranean island needs Rico to help rebels overthrow the land’s over-the-top evil dictator General Di Ravello who aims to exploit the country’s most valuable resource, the explosive yet energy-friendly Bavarium, for nefarious purposes which means suiting up once again with his signature grappling hook and parachute, and trying on a new wingsuit. The core traversal mechanics of Just Cause 2 involving Rico’s permanent equipment are improved for the three-quel, with the new wingsuit added to give the player immense speed and new options when traversing the lands or attacking from above. Most vehicles are entirely obsolete compared to Rico on his own, equipped with a few explosive weapons.
Rico Rodriguez’s abilities and tools make him a combination of Spider-Man and Superman, who’s not afraid to use the weapons of The Punisher. He’s a superhero and he’s going to save Medici… by nearly destroying it. That’s really where Just Cause 3 shines. Its massive world allows for wallpaper worthy sight lines across the landscapes when playing on PC with a powerful rig but the game has trouble delivering that with top performance on the consoles. When the frame rate is where it should be, Just Cause 3 is a gorgeous explosion of explosions all caused by you.
The best elements of the movement mechanics and combining death-defying stunts with vehicles, environment objects and weapon use of the last game come back in a big and better way in Just Cause 3 allowing creative players to execute some amazing feats while taking out enemy settlements. And that’s what you’ll be doing for most of the game.
Just Cause 3 is all about the explosions

Just Cause 3 is built around a similar geographic progression system found in most Ubisoft open-world games which forces exploration of the vast map. Most missions come with requirements that must be met before they become accessible, oftentimes asking the player to liberate a minimum amount of provinces within each of the game’s larger regions. To do so, players must locate and “liberate” (read: blow up) all of the enemy controlled settlements within a given province in order to make it blue instead of red on the game’s large map. These settlements are comprised of villages and towns, larger military bases, oil rigs, or small military outposts and some of them unlock vehicles that can be called in as a supply drop.
Players are free to attack these locations in any way they see fit, from any direction, and using anything the game has to offer, even turning enemy weapons against themselves by hijacking them on the fly. Mastering the controls and zipping around a base, grabbing vehicles mid-air or by landing on their roof and blowing stuff up along the way, is not only great fun, but it’s a very unique type of fun to this franchise. Rico’s improved grappling hook even allows players to connect other things, people and vehicles included, to one another by tethering them. See an armored solider while taking too much gunfire? Quickly attach him to another enemy and have them slam into another. Need to knock over a statute? Attached it to a building and pull it down, or better yet, pick up something even bigger and slam it into said statute.
There are no consequences to killing innocents and firing rockets at non-military buildings outside of losing explosive ammunition which Rico can annoyingly only carry a little of. These civilian structures are typically indestructible compared to military structures (marked in red) and smaller objects but the goal of Rico and his rebels is to create chaos. There’s even a Chaos Meter which tracks how devastating Rico is and a minimum amount of havoc must ensue before taking over the police station in each village.

While the broad strokes of gameplay can be immensely exciting, it gets old and the nitty gritty details and mechanics found in other third-person games are absent. There’s no way to sprint so you’re forced to grapple your way everywhere. There’s no cover system, no way to crouch or go prone, and aiming guns is not very smooth at times. Don’t even try driving a car unless you must for a mission.
In that respect, Just Cause 3 can be a chore to play, especially after a few hours. Players looking for simply more Just Cause 2 will get just that in spades, but the progression systems of Just Cause 3 – not just mission unlocks and liberation element – but the character progression as well are built around repetition. Instead of currencies or experience, players unlock new abilities for Rico and the vehicle types by completing challenges – the obligatory trope of most open-world games. These involving racing vehicles or blowing up stuff with time limits. There are a lot of these and they’ll take a few tries each to fully complete. That means the only way to “level up” the main character is to repeat the least fun elements of game. The system almost discourages players from seeing everything Rico can really do.
Most settlements are the same, the only thing differentiating them is the difficulty and weapons of the enemies as players get further into the game, so players are forced to take out the same sorts of structures in similar looking locations over and over again to get to the next mission. Some of the missions are repetitive as well, made worse by some corny writing and a goofy forgettable story. A lot of the game feels like filler to justify its massive size, even the interesting ruins scattered around the map are empty and pointless.
Players rarely need to be on the ground in Just Cause 3

Just Cause 3 favors repetition over depth. There’s nothing really new or inspired in Just Cause 3 outside of its likable protagonist whose one-liners and charming bravado actually works and what players can do with him in any given sandbox. The game is at its best when players are equipped with destructive weapons and free to zoom across the landscape, using the wingsuit, parachute, and grappling hook to never touch the ground, while destroying anything colored red below. Unfortunately that gets old and the story may not be enough to draw players through repeatedly liberating territories to see it through to the end. But still, there’s value in the sheer size of the game and the appealing aspect of jumping into Medici every once in a while to blow stuff up. It gets that part right.
Just Cause 3 is available on PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.

[h=2]Just Cause 3 re-opens 'The Dress' debate[/h][h=3]For the record, it's white-and-gold[/h]

https://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=fjRbwMwb5ks

Players have found an Easter egg in Just Cause 3 that references one of 2015's biggest memes. "The Dress" makes an appearance in the game and Redditors and its Steam community have shared the evidence. The video above shows the gag in action, and will help you find it for yourself.
"The Dress" became a viral sensation earlier this year as people weighed in on whether the clothing in question was black-and-blue or white-and-gold. It's an interesting example of optical trickery, albeit a highly divisive one that factionalized the internet.

Instead of choosing a side, Just Cause 3 takes the easy way out by putting two different wearers of the polarizing dress in the game. Don't expect this Easter egg to settle any of your withstanding "The Dress" debates — and good luck if it re-opens them.
Just Cause 3 relishes its in-jokes, which players have been discovering since its release earlier this month. Last week, video of the game's hint of Final Fantasy 7 made its way online.

[h=2]Just Cause 3 patch arriving this week to address awful load times[/h]

Just Cause 3's first post-launch patch is on the way, and it will deliver "significantly improved load times," developer Avalanche Studios announced today on the game's website.
The fictional setting of Medici is a massive playground offering Just Cause 3 protagonist Rico Rodriguez plenty of opportunities to blow shit up, but all that natural splendor comes at a price: The game suffers from some lengthy load times, especially on consoles. Avalanche is updating the game to version 1.02 this week, and the 132.1 MB patch will include the following:

  • Significantly improved loading times
  • Optimizations to online stats
  • General stability fixes
  • Fixed an issue related to challenges, wherein vehicles sometimes disappeared when starting a challenge
  • Fixed issues related to screen resizing and closing the game window before the game has fully started up [PC only]
Avalanche is rolling out the patch today on PlayStation 4 in Europe. The update will be available on Xbox One and worldwide on PS4 "over the next day or two," followed by a Windows PC release on Friday, Dec. 18. PC players in particular have been reporting all kinds of issues, including memory leaks, disappearing cloud saves and stuttering.
"We know many of you have been patiently awaiting today’s patch, and this update is part of a much larger plan to optimize and improve the game," said Avalanche. "To those of you still having issues, rest assured we are working hard to alleviate these, and are listening very closely to everything that's being said."
