The developer behind Journey, the PlayStation 3 adventure hitting the PlayStation Network in March, has been exclusive to Sony platforms since the release of flOw in 2007. But that may change after the release of Journey, says its founder, and people without PlayStation devices may have the opportunity to enjoy thatgamecompany's games.
In an interview with Push Square, TGC founder Jenova Chen says that the studio will be free to date other publishers and consoles after Journey arrives on March 13.
"thatgamecompany had a three game contract with Sony, so the past three games had to be Sony exclusive," Chen explains. "Right now we are very much exploring ways to bring our games to a bigger audience, beyond just PlayStation. We are still in the process of negotiating, but I hope that we can announce it [soon]. But right now it’s still in the process."
Sure, thatgamecompany's games, flOw and Flower, have been nice-to-have exclusives for Sony — and they'll apparently remain that way — but the more people who get to play these titles, the better.
There's a hell of a lot more to the interview with Chen, including an interesting tidbit or two about why the adventurers in Journey don't have arms.
