Is this a normal speedtest for 4mbps

I have felt that I have never properly felt the 4mbps connection that I have from PTCL. So I ran a test and this came up

Can people here share their own speeds and let me know if this is normal. Because it looks really bad to me (less than half!). What is the normal speed I should be getting for a 4mbps connection? (I have PTCL btw)

Thanks.

Speedtests should show at least 3.3 Mbps download speed on a 4 Mbps PTCL connection. You are likely still using a 2 Mbps connection and paying for a 4 Mbps connection. Call up your exchange and tell them to upgrade your port, or call 1218 and complain that your connection is still 2 Mbps, even though you're paying for 4 Mbps.

EDIT: My connection is a little sucky today, but I usually get around 3.3 Mbps download speed.

Dark Ajax! Your speed test shows that your connection is still 2Mbps.

There could be three reasons.
1. Your connection is NOT upgraded to 4Mbps.

2. Your phone line is at fault. You can go to your Modem Settings, and check the SNR (Signal to Noise Ratio). If its anything below 10, then there is obviously a problem and you need to lodge a complaint for "PSTN".

3. Your Port (from the back end) is not upgraded to a 4Mbps profile. you can go to your modem's settings page, and check the "Downstream & Upstream" rate. If its 4096 on downstream, that means you are using a 4Mbps profile. If its below than that, then it could either be because of problematic phone line, or port problem for back end. If former, the lodge a PSTN complaint (from myPTCL Portal). If latter, then you can lodge a complaint for Broadband.

Thank you for all the replies, guys.

I think it may be a phone line problem because I checked the router settings and this is what I get

Downstream is 4095 (not 4096) but I am going to say this seems fine, I guess. (right?)

I also checked the SNR Margin and this is what I get:

Given this information, it could either be a problematic phone line or a port problem, right? (excuse my ignorance but could you explain what the port problem could be?)

Dark Ajax! It seems your phone line is in perfect condition, and so is your Down/Upstream rate.

So now this is certain that this is a problem from the backend, and that your connection is NOT a 4Mbps.

Could you tell me:
- Have you applied for a 4Mbps upgrade from 2Mbps?
- Or did your connection is 4Mbps since the very begining, and that you are not receiving its full speeds?

In either case, lodging a complaint for "Broadband > Other" will have them contact you. But now you'll have to wait atleast one week because of Eid. (Eid Mubraik, btw :))

As for the "port problem" you have asked for ... basically its just a configuration from PTCL's end. Can either by a Physical Connection point or Virtual. Incase of Virtual, its like, they assign you a specific tunnel size logging that record in a computer. By tunnel size, i mean "The path size to transfer you the required bandwidth i.e. 4Mbps i.e. 4096KBps (4096 is your port size)

Furthermore, "Tunnel Size" is just a "pathway". The "Actual Bandwith" may be equal or less. In your case, its less i.e. 2Mbps. So basically, you are utilizing HALF of your tunnel size (because of pre-configured settings by PTCL)

I originally had a 2mbps line (student DSL-unlimited) which I asked to get upgraded a year or so ago (to the DSL 4mb - unlimited). I know that it was upgraded because they called and confirmed and well I have been paying the 4mbps tariff since (!).

Yeah I will lodge a complaint. At least, thanks to you, I have been able to narrow down the possible problem. Am on their helpline number as I type this message as well.

Thanks again for all the help :') and yesss eid mubarak! Cannot wait to phorafy on the food (but will have to do gently werna pait ka koi haal nahi rahay ga :p)
