Iam facing another dilemma which is one of the most common dilemmas people face today. My HP laptop stopped working after 6 months of use and the warranty people are saying bring this and that inorder to avoid servicing. So I need to buy a new laptop soon.

The thing is,Iam thinking of getting me a macbook 2.4ghz core2duo with 4gb ram, nvidia gpu and 250 gb hard drive. Its costing me 1 lac 3000 rupees with 1 year warranty. That is a humungous amount to spend on a laptop but Iam ready to spend it if its worth it.I mean,Iam getting a toshiba laptop with a 720p screen and intel corei3 with 500gb hard drive for 60,000 rupees. That is a difference of 43000!And I know that the toshiba laptop will last(Its a toshiba!).I just want a hassle free computer that wont give me any problems and would last 3-4 years or more.

So I need you guys to advice me.Is it really worth spending 43000 rupees more for a macbook.I mean is the OS really that awesome?Or am I better off buying the toshiba.I just do basic tasks like storing photos, surfing the web, making pdfs and documents and most importantly, downloading and watching movies through utorrent. Please suggest.

Note:please only those who have used macbooks or the mac os advice me.I dont want any practical comparisions.Practical comparisions cant tell the os experience.

You just won't be able to use all the software that you use with Windows, only some might offer compatibility with Mac. And dude, Core2Duo's in laptop's are obsolete now !! I'll sugget you go for the Toshiba. As far as the OS is concerned, it IS awesome. (You don't need to buy MacBook to use the OS btw, you can set up a dual-boot with Windows, but that version of 'Mac' is modified to run on non-macs, I have it myself)

Go for toshiba laptop!
It will save your money which is worthless and you won't be able to use some important softwares that you use with windows so, i suggest you to go for TOSHIBA LAPTOP...

I used Mac and Win 7 with a dual booting setup. Tbh, I didn't find Mac as i expected. You'll be bound for some softwares that led you to break you machine .

I switched over to mac two years ago and I'm completely satisfied. Granted I purchased a MacBook Pro.

As for software availability there's almost always something equal if not a Mac Version.
Plus you could install windows, if needed (I have it installed rarely do I use it) through boot camp.

I say go for it, if it doesn't break your wallet.

I have experience with both Mac OS X and Macbooks and I gotta say that Macbooks are the most beautiful laptops on planet. If you only do basic tasks like surfing, documents, photos, music, then Mac OS is the platform for you. Mac OS comes ready for such tasks, and you literally have to spend zero time to get started.

By the specifications, it seems like you are going for a Macbook White and not the Macbook Pro(correct me if I am wrong). If you are going for a Macbook Pro, then go for the latest one with unibody that gives you over 8-10 hours of battery life.

You can rely on Macbooks to stay with you over the years. They have a strong body, and a resistant screen. The thing that I love about Mac OSX, is that it remains as clean and fast even after years, and you don't need to keep reinstalling the OS after every 4-5 months.

With all these good things, there are literally many things that Macs fall short on. For example, gaming. There is no doubt that big titles have started to come on Mac OS X(only a few, though) but you can't get the kind of performance and quality you get with PCs. If you are a casual gamer and don't care what new games are coming in, or if the hottest game in the market doesn't run on Macs, then you can safely proceed. The other big issue with Macs, is that you can not easily find any software in the market for it. Since Windows still has 98% market share, so most applications and softwares come only on Windows. You can, however, get most well-known productivity, and office-suite softwares on Mac OS X.

All-in-all, Macbook is sexiest piece of hardware you will ever get hold of. Powered with Mac OS X, you get speed, a user-friendly UI, and a much more simpler way of doing things along with the beauty hidden within it, and of course, high-end entertainment.

And yes, I would still suggest you to research on your own. If I appreciate a certain thing, it doesn't mean that you will too.
Never forget, that you can run Mac OS X on a PC or a Non-Apple Laptop, and Windows on an Apple Laptop.

Wait a second. I would like to clarify a few things here. Who says you can't get most software on Mac OSX? What softwares do you think really matter and aren't available on Mac OS X?

And for gaming, you can get latest games like Sims 3, Prince of Persia : The Forgotten Sands. Steam is also available on Mac. And yes, Assassin's Creed 2 and Splinter Cell Conviction are also coming on Mac soon. This doesn't make Mac OS X come any way closer to Windows in terms of gaming but considering that all the big titles and even franchises have started to come on Macs, there definitely looks like Macs will be considered as low to mid end gaming laptops in future. But after all, one thing remains that Macs simple can't deliver that kind of performance with games as Windows does with its Direct X. A game that requires, for example, Nvidia Geforce 4 Series graphics card on Windows, requires 8 Series graphics cards on Mac OS X.

As far as the gaming is concerned then you won't be able to play any good games on laptops or macbooks unless it's a 5 or 10 KG oil ka dabba. If you are a casual gamer then the 60k Toshiba lappy and the 100k Mac will perform equal. The good thing about Mac books is their solid build. If you can find a solid lappy with with Windows 7 cheaper than Mac then I suggest don't buy the Mac and save your money.

Big Rock Candy Mountain.
Budget aside.

Macs are freaking awesome! The body, built, quality is really really good. And as far as software support is concerned, there is usually a Mac-compatible equal. Many new games are coming on the mac. (TF2, AC2, sims3, Starcraft 2) and many more. The keyboard layout, mouse pad...its really lovely and comfortable to use.believe me. Also, Final cut pro is a MAC exclusive (If you are into video editing)

Now putting the money into the game..it aint worth it, especially if you are a hardcore gamer. Other than that....

Bro spending 130K on a Core2Duo lappy is absurd and quite frankly stupid (No Offense) if you have that kind of money to spend on a Laptop then buy the Dell Studio XPS 1645 Iam currently using it its a perfect Machine for doing everything you ever want Video Encoding , Office Work, HD Video Playback and Gaming.

The Specs are Core i7 4gb ram 500gb Hdd Blu-ray Reader + Dvd writer 16" LED Display Full HD Max Resolution 1920 x 1080 and it comes with a Ati 4670 GFX card which plays nearly every New Game on Medium and you can easily install Mac OSX on it (Not that you Need to) and it also comes with 1 year warranty form Dell and with its Specs it can Easily Last for 4-5 years. so your Choice spend 130K on a Obsolete Machine or spend it on this Master Piece

PS. the price given on the Website is inaccurate and expensive you can find a better deal in your local Market .

brother its worth to switching from pc to mac if you have money for mac and if you needs its application because mac run windows as a program and you can do your work in it but the main disadvantages of mac is its price so a high end pc is way too much better for playing games , you can find pc applications every where ,accessories etc etc
