I had an old jailbroken 3gs lying around and decided to reset it to factory settings via the settings in IOS. I didn't know that bricks the phone if you're on a jailbreak. I've done all my research regarding the matter. I've tried putting the phone into recovery mode and restoring via itunes but itunes says it can't contact the software update server. I've tried using redsnow to restore it to an IPSW file but redsnow says that version of the IPSW file is not supported. I've hit rock bottom now and ask any iphone/ios gurus for help.

Put it in dfu mode by holding power & home button for 10sec and then release power button while still holding home button for another 10sec keep ur iPhone connected to PC while putting in dfu mode

muhammad bt! Can you give us a little more information than that? (Also try using RedSn0w to gather more info about the device)

- Which iOS version were you running?
- Was your jailbreak tethered or untethered?
- What was the baseband?
- Is it new bootrom or old?

If your device is not Factory Unlocked then i don't think you will be able to Recover it using iTunes directly. You will have to make a Custom IPSW using Sn0wbreeze for 6.1.3. ("No SHSH" while creating package + Preserve baseband while creating package BUT NOT PRESERVE during Installing)

FLASH the package with TinyUmbrella (TSS Server) Running in Background, after Booting the phone via iReb (Sn0wBreeze). ONLY THEN you will be able to flash the phone via iTunes.

After that, simply flash the iPad's baseband (via RedSn0w) which works just fine under UltraSn0w.

P.S. Above all assumed you already know how to handle your iPhone, which includes going to DFU Mode etc. If not then search yourself and get to know it.

I was running an untethered jailbreak and my phone's factory unclocked. I sadly have no idea about the baseband and bootrom. I also don't remember what iOS i was on. It was probably 5.x. abobobilly

I tried restoring to another ipsw file. redsnow had no problems with that. It asks for what bootrom i'm on however and I have no idea about that :| Any suggestions?

Edit: I have the new bootrom.

muhammad bt! From RedSn0w > Extras > Even More > Identify ... you can check the info about your iPhone.

Download the following IPSW files for 3GS, just incase.
- v4.1
- v6.0
- v6.1.3
- v6.1.6

If your iTunes is unable to flash/restore your 3GS, then its probably because its NOT Factory Unlocked, in which case you will have to follow the procedure posted in my previous post.

If you are clueless, then start by flashing v4.1. Refer to some guides available on interwebs for flashing procedure in detail.

I'd been using a ufone sim on it. Doesn't that mean it's factory unlocked? :| Is there someone on PG who provides this service? Someone I can send the phone so he can fix it for me?

Brother its not difficult. Just search for some guides for a little help on flashing procedure, and you'll be fine.

And you still didn't post the info about the CURRENT details of your phone obtainable via Redsn0W.

I'll try fixing it this weekend, iA. If there's some specific guide or a set of tutorials to what i exactly need to do, please post the links to them here because all of this flashing procedure business is very intimidating. Thankyou very much!
