Tuesday 24th January 2012, the US Senate will vote on the internet censorship bill the Protect IP Act (PIPA). This we do not support for two reasons.

1) Freedom of speech and issues of censorship.

2) The overreach of American law onto the world stage, which is not the USA's jurisdiction.

We are NOT alone in this protest. There are many individuals and companies against SOPA, including Google, Reddit, Facebook, Twitter, Wikipedia, and by taking down our site for 24 hours starting at midnight Eastern Standard Time, we are making a statement in solidarity with those who value freedom of expression.

I fear that if this bill passes what will we Pakistanis do?:D:icecream:

On a serious note, IMO this cannot be passed as many big companies are against it for e.g Google, Wikipedia, GoDaddy etc.

For over a decade, we have spent millions of hours building the largest encyclopedia in human history. Right now, the U.S. Congress is considering legislation that could fatally damage the free and open Internet. For 24 hours, to raise awareness, we are blacking out Wikipedia. Learn more.

If a user shares a copyrighted link on a site like Facebook for example, the offended company will have the right to sue Facebook instead of suing the user who shared the offended link.

If someone sends you a torrent file via Email, that link would be removed. No doubt legit links would also be removed "accidentally" if this proceeds.

And so on.

Well If you don't know the details then please don't support such laws in a state of ignorance, If you want to support or criticize something like SOPA which will have an impact on the INTERNET (As in THE WORLD!) atleast try to figure out what the bill actually is.

LaHOre!!!!
What's the difference between this and ACTA & PIPA, aren't these the same bills with different names? I think these guys passed around a couple of bills with same underlying motives but under different names and slightly different apparent objectives. I think this is to increase their chances of success, because even if one bill gets approved, they still get what they want. So, shouldn't we protest collectively against all these bills instead of just SOPA? Here are the names:
ACTA(Anti Counterfeiting Trade Agreement)
PIPA(Protect Intellectual Property Act)
and of course SOPA, what do you guys think about this move by the corporate organizations?

My dear brothers i have 3 smooth options to settle this situation !!

1 don't hate the player - hate the game

2 never hate the game - hate the filthy player

3 just hate everything

>>> this is for let you decide which side you are on to <<<

Freedom of speech ... yeah, abusing beliefs, people, concepts. Good riddance of this strange attempt by humanity to address the freedom of its inner retard. Cry fools...cry.

Summary

This bill would establish a system for taking down websites that the Justice Department determines to be dedicated to copyright infringment. The DoJ or the copyright owner would be able to commence a legal action against any site they deem to have "only limited purpose or use other than infringement," and the DoJ would be allowed to demand that search engines, social networking sites and domain name services block access to the targeted site. It would also make unauthorized web streaming of copyrighted content a felony with a possible penalty up to five years in prison. This bill combines two separate Senate bills -- S.968 and S.978 -- into one big House bill.

Read the rest on that link.

It also has the list for all the industries/companies in support and opposing the bill.

And more stuff

If SOPA passes the entire world will collapse as we know it, 99% of the sites we visit daily COULD be shut down and don't even IMAGINE the impact on torrent sites ... O_O
