So I've a Macbook Pro running Mavericks, and I absolutely hate it sometimes. It overheats sometimes, and sometimes the lag is unbearable. I google'ed this and found many people experincing the same problem. I tried Mountain Lion and my brother's Macbook Pro and it has no such problems. So I wanted to ask if it is possible to downgrade to Mountain Lion without a Time Machine backup. I heard it is possible through booting into internet recovery or something. But I have no idea how I do it. Help would be appreciated.

For reference: Tip for downgrading to Mountain Lion : osx

Only if ur MacBook came with earlier version of mac then u can by Restarting, cmd+option+r

I did same with my cousin's MacBook Pro who doesn't like Mavericks

Btw I don't have any problems with my early 2013 MacBook Pro, ur might have dust inside or thermalpaste might have dried off get it checked from a professional PC Technition

Alright, but do I need a copy or installer of the Mac version I need to revert to? Or can it be easily done with the method you mentioned?

No it'll need a gud internet
Connection like 4mb or better to download 3.8+ installation (if mountain lion is the original OSX)

That shouldn't be a problem then. One more question, my Macbook Pro is 2011 model, so I suppose it came with Lion. Is there a way to upgrade to Mountain Lion without going directly to Mavericks.

Mountain Lion was a paid update. You'll either go to Lion, or a free upgrade to Mavericks.
