Hi friends,

I have Pentium D processor 3.4GHZ, which is running on intel DG31PR chipset.
Now i want to upgrade and purchase Core2Quad for gaming.

My question is that can this chipset perform well on core2Quad?
According to intel site, chipset is compatible with processor.

But one of my friend (who is a computer shop retailer) says that you can run Quad on chipset but it will not perform well. According to him compatibility and performance two different thing. He suggested me to buy core2duo. Is it really so? and it is worth less to buy core2quad?

Core 2 Quad isn't worthless. It is better choice than Core 2 Duo in current times.

Intel DG31PR is a Classic series Motherboard and is designed for mainstream market. It does not supports OC like Intel Extreme series Motherboards.

I would also suggest Motherboard upgrade, if you plan to get a Core 2 Quad processor.

You can buy the processor now and get a new Motherboard later. And if not, than settle down for a Core 2 Duo.

Go for the a Quad mate its a better choice than core 2 duo. this mother board will do the job, its not the best board out there but it will run ur quad core just make sure the processor you pick is supported by your board at intels site, you may have to update its bios if needed.
as far as performance is concern, you wont lose any dont worry about that.

This is the first time iv heard that my mobo will not perform well with a quad...?
They don't know what they're talking about. Mobo only comes into play if you absolutely must overclock. At stock speeds it doesn't matter.

^^ True. Mobo norally does not effect processor performance as long as it is supported. DG31PR would not let you OC the quad but will run it perfectly at stock speeds.

For your own sake don't talk to these computer retailers who dont know shit about anything.
