This show is going pretty decent right now.... I just watched the first 2 episodes back to back and liked it, although it is nowhere the epic level of other similar series like Rome or Spartacus. I will wait and see how it turns out, hope it is as good as them.

Well i am comparing it on the basis of budget and production values... This is more political a.l.a Rome. Rome was also from HBO.

Well think about it, wasnt Sopranos this slow at times. This show also has alot of characters and details to fully outline. Its going to take some episodes to do that. I was surprised at the huge time gap between the episodes (about one whole month). Anyhow here is my stand on the 2nd episode:

- The slaps were freakin awesome. I know Tyrion is going to be a favorite character for many for the episodes to come.
- Jon Snow and Arya are also favorites. It was pretty cool how she ducked Prince Jeoffrey's sword swinging
- The direwolves are effing awesome. Now I want a direwolf. If they are this big and dangerous at just being a few months old, how would they be when they grow up. It was just amazing how Bran's direwolf Summer killed the guy. I am sad about the loss of Lady and Nymeria. Would have been cool having more wolves around.
- We see Denaerys tame her barbaric Khal Drogo with the power of reverse cow girl. You go girl
- Eddard Stark is so noble and principled. Hes going to be torn apart when he becomes entangled in all the corruption at King's landing. I believe this is just the beginning of what the Lannisters have in store for him. And their father has yet to be introduced who suppose to be just like them or maybe even more dangerous
- Those 3 Dragon eggs are pretty interesting. If anyone has read through the available history, the first Targareyn King, King Aerys conquered all of Westeros with the aid of just three dragons that he brought with him

The Kingsroad is likely the weakest of the first half dozen episodes, if only because it acts as a bridge of sorts between the events of the series opener and the meaty intrigues that begin in earnest come episode three. It still remains a competent piece of television, but it, like the episode preceding it, is utilitarian at best. The first two episode of Thrones are laying the foundations for the series; uneventful but strong, they perform their function admirably.

I think the show will disappoint a lot of people. People such as those who like 'Dancing with the stars' and 'American Idol' and other such nonsense.

Episode 2 was terrific. Peter Dinklage is gonna be the star of this show. His character is extremely polished. He owns the Lannisters.

I told you, there's gonna be some friction between Eddard and King Robert Baratheon. The ending proved it nicely. And those effed-up twins are gonna make use of it.

Overall, this show is already rolling some heads. Critics are going apeshit over this. Expect ratings to fly soon.

^ Just watched the two episodes. This show is going to be epic! This is MA at it's extreme. I was not expecting such levels of violence and sex. The most I was expecting was Dexter level stuff. Really surprising.

I frigging hate the Queen, and that liitle whiny boy of hers. (Wow, two episodes and it has provoked such emotion)

Direwolves = Awesome, I want one! Also I hated to see Ned kill Lady.
My take:
The show is somewhat about power. The writers are creating some political tension between the clans. Children fighting, the attempted murders (and now Bran is awake), Abuses will lead to bany attitude of the f**king queen, this is inevitably going to lead to some fighting, physical or verbal.

Also, what was the king talking about during the journey with Ned. When he said that some tribe killed Ned sister, and the king's love? Was he talking about the tribe which that blonde girl (who got a lesson in sex) is married to? If so, then we can see the foundation of some bigger conflict, involving almost all the characters introduced so far.

It's difficult to compare the books to the onscreen production, but they have done a very good job so far. I wasn't entirely convinced about the whole thing, I thought they were pissing on something so brilliant, but was pleasantly surprised at how well it turned out.

And yeah, the whole thing is one HUGE game of chess played by the different houses. The fantasy elements don't even come in till the end of the first book. But thoughout, it remains very political, and full of backstabbing, murder, death, and so on.

Now Daenerys Targaryen (the blonde girl) is married to Khal Drogo. And for the king, that spells war against the Dothraki.

While Game of Thrones is certainly going in this direction, if you wan to watch a complete and finished show then i suggest to watch Rome, which as also by HBO. It had everything that you described, meanwhile watch Game of Thrones in between
