You could move around with the character in the demo if you pressed the movement keys at a certain time.

Comparison with PS4 Pro. Not the best quality snaps as the guy who took them has a 6 years old mid-range GPU. Nonetheless, addition of NVIDIA effects, among refinements to practically everything else, makes a massive difference. Add native resolutions and higher frame rates into the mix, and it's easier to realize why Tabata called it a generational leap.

Ok, so downloaded and gave this a try. This is so far probably the most demanding PC game I've played on my system and a solid 60 FPS without lowering settings is a bit hard so I've come to a compromise with it. I'm using a 7300HQ i5, which while very decent for gaming, is not that new anymore.

So, Textures = high, LoD, Shadow, Lighting, AO, SSR = Average, Motion blur = off, Geomapping (Tessellation = on) but all NVidia fluff work = off. Using Riva tuner to lock the game to 45 FPS and running at 150% of 1080p (which I think is equal to 1440p ?) and that seems to be the sweet spot.

Running it at 60 FPS has a *lot* of micro stuttering which is much more distracting than any 30 FPS frame pacing the PS4 Pro version had. 45 FPS is not 60 FPS fluid but when running at that rate consistent looks and plays extremely well.

Also for anyone playing this, apparently the game's built-in TAA applies a lot of blur, there's already reshades to make the blur less noticeable.

Why downsample from 150%? You could get quite a significant boost running at native 1080p.
You would think so, but no. The game seems to be a lot more CPU bound than GPU so resolution increase isn't as big of a hog as you'd think but other things like reducing LoD and shadows etc is more beneficial.

Also, resolution increase does a lot to alleviate the TAA blur. Flat 1080p looks a little too blurry but the game's implementation of FXAA is very poor and no AA is definitely not recommended because of the jaggies (unless you're playing native 4K or something I guess).

This could also mean you've hit a CPU bottleneck first, not necessarily the game being CPU bound. Easy way to tell would be checking the CPU and GPU usage.

Yeah, the game always exhibited a blurry look. Kind of in line with AC Origins.

Yeah, likely a CPU bottleneck. I'm looking into using some custom ini tweaks using reddit etc to try and squeeze more performance and doing other minor things like forcing PhysX on the GPU instead of CPU in the NVidia control panel.

But yeah, this has been the 'heaviest' game I have played, also based on that screen, my laptop is matching the X1X except for TRAM (High instead of Highest) and native res (150% of 1080p, which I think is around 1440p, and X1X does 1600p or something IIRC, but I'm also getting more consistent and higher frame rate.

edit: What's the simplest in-game usage UI I can do without adding extra load ? The game has a built in performance tracker too but it only tracks FPS, System RAM usage and VRAM usage. The VRAM usage from the Texture Settings in the game is FUCKED. On High takes around 3.3~ GB and uses 56% approx but the Highest maxes out the entire 6GB card and according to DF it's only usable for 12GB GPU's like 1080 Ti's.


edit 2: Apparently the same guy who practically fixed Nier Automata on PC also put out a performance enhancing mod for FFXV titled "Special K" mod. I'll give that a look too.

btw Special K is piracy protected meaning it can detect and disable itself on pirated copies :p

Actually it works by reprioritizing game engine threads, disabling draw calls to input devices that dont exist and most importantly, prevents duplication of textures loaded in Vram. The last bit saved me 2GBs of Vram at min!

    Started Dead Island 2, and i find it pretty lame. The story is shit. The characters are either cringe or bland (all 6 of them), The gameplay isn't fun. Even the goddamn zombies don't behave like proper zombies. They're all fast & intelligent unlike how zombies are supposed to be like. Any fan of "zombie" genre cannot possibly like this shitfest of a game. Dying Light 2 was million times better than this shit.
