Should always read the fine print on the game before redeeming it. Anyhow, playing actively with a vpn on in the background has a chance of getting you banned (but its very rare..like 1 in a million if its a singleplayer game). If you just use the vpn to launch the game and then turn it off, that chance reduces further although you also lose access to steam features in game. If its a game you are not in a rush to play, wait 2-3 months and it will be unlocked for you automatically so you can play without any hassle.

lol region lock for each country/region is different.. if it doesnt need a vpn to launch for a malaysian copy doesnt mean it wont need one for russian. Game copy from each region store has a different code.
As for the other part, every steam game becomes region free after it has been in your library for a while and then you can play it whenever you want, wherever you want without a vpn. Usually its like 2-3 months but sometimes can even take as long as 6-10 months.
If it was a MP game, you shouldnt have even tried it in the first place because MOST multiplayer games have another layer of region restriction as well. Those who own the Russian/CIS copies can only play with users from the same region or those who have the Russian/CIS copies. For future reference, steam amped up its region locking policy last year so now its a very risky move to buy games from another region. If possible, return the game for a refund and buy it from somewhere else because playing online with a VPN has a very high chance of getting you flagged

Yeah i am not updated about steam policy as i rarely plays game there as i my most of the online time is taken by BF4
so looks like Origin is much better they dont do any thing even if you redeem russian game or change language files and i just read somewhere even if i buy GLOBAL Copy of that game i cannot redeem that in my that account either i have to discard this copy by asking Steam support (which is slow and lame )
and then redeem the new copy
where in steam you can redeem russian and later you can add Global copy of the same game

Where i can read about this REGION getting unlocked after 2 3 months is there written somewhere from Steam ?

no ofc steam will never write about that..not only does it hurt sales it also goes against their policy of not allowing purchases from other regions. But that is how it works in practice

it depends on the region it was purchased from. Games purchased from most of Europe and US are region free. While those from countries like malaysia, indonesia, russia, brazil etc are locked

if we are moving towards more and more popular trash across platforms that make billions for companies, I'm happy with all the barriers and exclusivity because at least that brings some pressure to create good stuff.

Started Dead Island 2, and i find it pretty lame. The story is shit. The characters are either cringe or bland (all 6 of them), The gameplay isn't fun. Even the goddamn zombies don't behave like proper zombies. They're all fast & intelligent unlike how zombies are supposed to be like. Any fan of "zombie" genre cannot possibly like this shitfest of a game. Dying Light 2 was million times better than this shit.
