Each year brings more and more comic book movies into theaters, and with the new plan for studios being the creation of cinematic universes, they will have to explore all corners of the source material. This year started out proving just that with Fox finally releasing Deadpool, the R-rated film set within their X-Men timeline that was stuck in a development hole for the past decade. Now that Fox knows what it has with Ryan Reynolds as the Merc with a Mouth, a sequel has been a no brainer. While Deadpool 2 does not have a release date just yet, the post credit scene for the first installment teased a new addition to the cast for the sequel.
Cable will make his way onto the big screen and after teasing Mel Gibson, Dolph Abuses will lead to bangren, or even Keira Knightley, actors and fans have thrown names into the ring. However, if the latest rumor proves to be true, someone who has not yet been rumored could be the one to get the coveted role.

On the latest episode of Meet the Movie Press, film reporter for Mashable.com, Jeff Sneider, dropped the following news, while prefacing said news with a “huge grain of salt.” Sneider is reporting that actor Kyle Chandler has been the name that has continued to be circulated with the role. Standing at 6’1″, Chandler has the frame to potentially play the role. Chandler is arguably best known for his work on Bloodline, where his serious demeanor fits perfectly with what Cable should bring. Chandler is not the big name that comes with the addition of someone like Gibson or Abuses will lead to bangren, but would be a great addition to the Deadpool 2 cast. In fact, he was at the top of our list of candidates to play the character.

This was not the only bit of information that Sneider dropped however, as he also revealed a name being considered for Domino. Apparently, Mackenzie Davis is also being considered for the role, which Sneider describes as the “scene stealer of the movie.” Shortly after Deadpool 2 was announced, Domino’s involvement began to be rumored. Similarly to Chandler, Davis is not a household name yet, but following her role in The Martian and upcoming role in Blade Runner 2, Fox could be capitalizing on her before she breaks out.
It should not be a surprise that either of these characters are going to be involved with this movie, but don’t get too excited about Chandler and Davis playing the parts until Fox makes it official down the line. Sneider admits to not making calls on this report in quite some time, so it is possible that either or both of them have since passed on the role, or Fox decided to go in a different direction themselves. Both of these would be great choices should this come to be. But until then, take the report with a grain of salt just as Sneider says.
Wolverine 3 opens in U.S. theaters on March 3rd, 2017, followed by unannounced X-Men films on October 6th, 2017, March 2nd, 2018, and June 29th, 2018. Deadpool 2, Gambit, New Mutants and X-Force are currently in development.

[h=1]Deadpool 2: What Mackenzie Davis Could Look Like as Domino[/h]

Deadpool was a hit with both critics and fans when it debut in theaters this past winter, setting records for R-rated films, Fox’s X-Men franchise, and the month of February. Naturally, a sequel is development. While we don’t know much about its plot, the Merc with a Mouth was kind enough to give us a fourth-wall breaking teaser in his first film’s stinger. The sequel will involve the other half to his odd couple – the time-travelling Cable. He’ll be played by anyone who can pull off a flat top. Maybe Keira Knightley.
Just yesterday, the rumor began circulating that Kyle Chandler (The Wolf of Wall Street) may be Fox’s current number one pick for Cable in the sequel. Not only that, apparently Domino will also feature in the film, and Mackenzie Davis (The Martian) is under consideration for the role.
Never one to back down from a fan conceptualization with a day’s turnaround, the ever diligent Boss Logic dropped a killer design of Mackenzie in her rumored role. Take a look:
Mackenzie Davis is rumoured for the role of Domino in @deadpoolmovie @VancityReynolds pic.twitter.com/xu6V85rT8h
— BossLogic (@Bosslogic) August 13, 2016
While neither these casting choices or designs are any kind of guarantee of the final product, Boss Logic has a knack for capturing the potential of rumors and fan casting in succinct visuals. You’ve very likely seen his prior work with any number of recent properties, including Anna Kendrick as Squirrel Girl, Bryan Cranston as Zordon, Donald Glover as alt-Spider-Man Miles Morales, or the successfully predicted Brie Larson as Captain Marvel.
If there’s anything we learned about director Tim Miller’s approach to costume design from the first Deadpool, it’s that if it’s not broke, he won’t fix it. Deadpool and Colossus were dead ringers for their comic iterations, and Negasonic Teenage Warhead’s New Mutants costume was probably the most comic-accurate X-uniform we’ve seen on screen yet. Boss Logic’s approach to Domino looks very similar to her own comic appearances, so regardless of the actors in the outfits, it’s probably not too far off from what we’ll actually see when Deadpool returns to the screen.
Do you have a favorite iteration of Cable or Domino that you hope to see on the big screen? Are these the right actors to bring the duo to life? Let us know your thoughts in the usual place, and stay tuned to Screen Rant for updates on Deadpool 2 as they hit.
Wolverine 3 opens in U.S. theaters on March 3rd, 2017, followed by unannounced X-Men films on October 6th, 2017, March 2nd, 2018, and June 29th, 2018. Deadpool 2, Gambit, New Mutants andX-Force are currently in development.

[h=1]Deadpool 2: Domino Shortlist Includes Mary Elizabeth Winstead & More [Updated][/h]

For a decade, Ryan Reynolds and company did everything in their power to convince Fox to green-light Deadpool. 20th Century Fox finally pulled the trigger and released the film earlier this year – and was met with the resounding sound of applause from fans and critics alike. This is why it was hardly a shock to anyone who stuck through that film’s credits to learn that Deadpool 2 is on the way, and it will feature Cable. While he is the big gun that fans are looking forward to seeing debut, Domino has also been reported to be making her big screen debut in the sequel.
Deadpool 2 still sits without an official release date, but is moving through the pre-production process of writing the script and filling out the cast. In order to do so, Fox needs to audition actors and actresses they are considering for new roles – which has now led to a list being released of six ladies in contention to land the role of Domino.

Collider is reporting that Fox is currently auditioning or will soon audition the following list of actresses to play Domino: Mary Elizabeth Winstead (10 Cloverfield Lane, Scott Pilgrim vs. the World), Lizzy Caplan (Now You See Me 2, Masters of Sex), Sienna Miller (Burnt, American Sniper), Sofia Boutella (Star Trek Beyond, Kingsman: The Secret Service) Stephanie Sigman (Narcos, Spectre), and Sylvia Hoeks (Overspel, Blade Runner 2049). [Update: Collider is reporting more actresses are up for the role, including Mackenzie Davis (Halt and Catch Fire), Ruby Rose (Orange Is the New Black), Eve Hewson (The Knick), and Kelly Rohrbach (Baywatch).]
Mary Elizabeth Winstead and Lizzy Caplan are in the running to play Domino

Fox is clearly looking at a wide ranging group of actresses to play what could be the female lead in the film, depending on how heavily involved Morena Baccarin is as Vanessa for the sequel. Regarding this group of contenders, Winstead is arguably among the most deserving of the role – assuming she’s interested. She recently turned in a well-received performance in 10 Cloverfield Lane and will appear on the hit TV series Fargo for its third season. She has already shown interest in superhero-related films, via her role in Scott Pilgrim vs. the World and even Sky High, so a role such as Domino in Deadpool 2 seems to lie in her wheelhouse.
Whoever is cast as Domino will also depend on the version of the character featured in Deadpool 2. Cable’s casting may also play a factor in this decision, seeing as Domino and Cable are typically in a romantic relationship. With both characters being brought in for this movie, Deadpool 2 could even set up Domino and Cable to eventually appear in X-Force down the road. It should also be noted that actresses of different nationalities are being tested, with the shortlist including American, British, Dutch, Mexican, and French actresses alike. That is to say, it’s encouraging to see that a relatively wide range in talent is being drawn from here.

[h=1]Deadpool 2 Director Exits Over Creative Differences with Ryan Reynolds[/h]

Fox received one of the biggest hits of the year in Deadpool, a movie that had been stuck in development for the past decade. Ryan Reynolds continuously pushed for the movie to be made, and it eventually was green-lit after leaked concept footage spread like wildfire across the Internet. Reynolds’ belief in the movie paid off big for Fox, as the R-rated superhero film eventually grossed more than $750 million in theaters worldwide. Plans for a sequel were in motion even before the movie hit theaters – with the Deadpool post-credit scene revealing that the time-traveling mutant known as Cable would be appearing.
If there was one reason for fans to worry about the film throughout production, however, it was having first time director Tim Miller have control of the film. However, Miller proved that he was able to handle the load of the superhero film and was then set to return for Deadpool 2. Unfortunately, that will no longer be the case.
Deadline has revealed that Miller has left the highly-anticipated sequel due to creative differences with star and producer, Ryan Reynolds, who plays the Merc with a Mouth. The split is reportedly mutual, with Deadline stating Miller and Fox are still on good terms. Miller never officially signed on for Deadpool 2, but he was involved with the screenwriting process. Nonetheless, he and Reynolds could not see eye to eye on the direction that the sequel should take.
Ryan Reynolds and Tim Miller working on the first Deadpool movie

With Miller now off the project, Fox will quickly begin searching for a new director to oversee the Deadpool sequel. Thanks to the success of the first movie, this should be a highly coveted project for filmmakers interested in trying their hand at a superhero movie. The director that does end up replacing Miller will still have the help of Reynolds, as well as Deadpool screenwriters Paul Wernick and Rhett Reese, in crafting the sequel.
Losing a director is never good news for a project – but with Deadpool 2 currently sitting without a release date, Fox should have time to find the right person for the job. The creative differences Miller and Reynolds haven’t stopped the sequel from moving along, with the search for an actress to play Domino currently underway. The issue of who to cast as Domino might have even been the last straw for Miller, as Deadline reports that Miller only left the project late last night (October 21st, at the time of writing this). It’s possible Miller was either not onboard with the inclusion of Domino to begin with, or Reynolds had a different choice for the role in mind.
For now, those involved with pre-production on Deadpool 2 will continue to revise the script and bring on more cast members – something that will make the choice of replacement director that much more interesting. The longer the project goes without a director, the less input he or she will have prior to filming. This means that any director that signs on will have to adhere to the majority of the current plans and have less room to inject their own ideas into the movie. Deadpool was a success because of careful planning and the passion of both Reynolds and the people working behind the scenes, so hopefully the new Deadpool 2 director will be equally passionate.

[h=1]Report: Deadpool Director & Ryan Reynolds Disagreed on Cable Casting[/h]

20th Century Fox fast-tracked development the superhero movie sequel Deadpool 2 earlier this year, in order to strike while the iron’s hot – following the unexpectedly large box office turnout for this year’s R-rated X-Men spin-off. However, the story has now taken an unexpected turn – with Deadpool director Tim Miller (who has been actively involved with the sequel’s pre-production) having stepped down as helmsman on the Merc With a Mouth’s next movie.
Although Miller was reportedly never officially signed on to direct Deadpool 2, his return on the followup – which is being written by Deadpool screenwriters Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick – was generally regarded as being all but a given, prior to his departure. Additional details have now emerged, with regard to exactly what the “creative differences” were between Miller and Deadpool star Ryan Reynolds that led to the former stepping down on the sequel.
According to The Wrap, Reynolds and Miller had indeed clashed over the creative direction of the Deadpool sequel. It’s unknown whether the two men had similar differences of opinion on the first installment – as that film was made before Reynolds had renegotiated his deal for playing the Wade Wilson character further to allow him a say over casting decisions and “other creative controls.”
Miller’s overall vision for Deadpool 2 was said to involve exploring the bigger facets and more unusual realms of Deadpool’s place in the X-Men universe, whereas Reynolds’ vision favored a focus on the first movie’s raunchy comedy and self-referential satirical sensibilities. While always a fast-talking character as envisioned by creator Rob Liefeld, Deadpool’s popularity in the original Marvel comics truly exploded only after subsequent creators re-aligned him as a fourth-wall breaking character, whose awareness of his comic book origins informed his strange behaviors.

Reynolds and Miller’s partnership reportedly reached its breaking point in disagreements over which actor should play the character of Cable in Deadpool 2. Miller is said to have been favoriting previously-rumored candidate Kyle Chandler (Friday Night Lights, Bloodline) for the role, whereas Reynolds wanting to go in a different direction. The studio ultimately chose to side with their star on the matter, leading to Miller quietly exiting the project – though the director reportedly remains on good terms with Fox and may even direct a different film for the studio, next.
The search is now on for a new filmmaker to helm the hotly-anticipated Deadpool sequel; a project that will continue to move forward towards starting production next year, in keeping with the plans currently in place. Miller is generally regarded as having been as important to the creative process on the original Deadpool as Reynolds and the film’s writers were, so superhero movie fans are no doubt hoping that a worthy candidate is brought onboard as his replacement.

[h=1]James Gunn ‘Bummed’ About Deadpool Director Departure[/h]

An oddly eventful weekend has seen the sad death of revered Preacher co-creator Steve Dillon, the impending purchase of Time Warner by AT&T and – perhaps most immediately concerning to comic book movie fans – the surprise departure of director Tim Miller from Deadpool 2. Miller reportedly left the production over creative differences with star Ryan Reynolds regarding the casting of perennial fan-favorite mutant character Cable.
Despite being actively involved in the pre-production of Deadpool 2 (currently being written by the original’s screenwriters, Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick), Miller was evidently not officially signed on as that film’s director. Miller supposedly has left the production over a disagreement with Reynolds, who did not want Miller’s favored actor Kyle Chandler (Bloodline, Friday Night Lights) as Deadpool’s frequent comic book partner Cable.
The move has left plenty of fans perplexed, and even has a high-profile Marvel-related director weighing in on the matter. Guardians of the Galaxy helmer James Gunn, who tweeted the following:
Honestly bummed about Tim Miller leaving Deadpool. He did an amazing job with the first one; I’d like to have seen where he’d go next.

Gunn may be the first of such Marvel-centric filmmakers to express their regret over Miller’s departure from Deadpool 2, but he probably won’t be the last. Gunn’s show of support is reminiscent of the outcry over Edgar Wright leaving Marvel’s Ant-Man (see Joss Whedon’s famous tribute). At the time, Gunn also expounded on that creative break-up, essentially saying that it might have been the right thing to do for all parties involved.
In the case of Deadpool, Fox had an untested feature director who was nonetheless an experienced visual effects producer and whose leaked CGI proof-of-concept reel led to an overwhelmingly positive fan reaction. The studio took the gamble and wound up netting over $750 million worldwide and the sequel underway from day one – additionally, the positive reaction from fans and critics made this type of irreverent, tongue-firmly-in-cheek approach a viable option for the genre (for better or worse).

While it’s become common practice to have the director of a successful initial movie like this stay on for a sequel (Bryan Singer/X-Men: Apocalypse, J.J. Abrams/Star Trek Into Darkness, Joss Whedon/Age of Ultron), there is no way to tell at this point how Miller’s departure will affect Deadpool 2‘s quality. The split was apparently friendly on all fronts, with Miller having another picture set up at Fox.
Still, dedicated fans of the mouthy Merc will be following the search for a new director closely, with the open spot on such a hot property likely to prove a coveted gig. Given Deadpool’s vocal fans, their response to any touted helmer names may prove unusually influential. Stay tuned for more news as it becomes available.

Tim Miller was a great director. Deadpool 2 will definitely won't feel epic as the first one. I hope Ryan and Miller kiss and make up. If not, i doubt ryan would find a decent director replace Tim.

Oh, and Mary Winstead for Domino would be neat.

[h=1]Deadpool 2: Conflicting Reports Emerge Over Tim Miller’s Departure as Director[/h]

The overwhelming success of the mini-budgeted, R-rated, February-launched superhero film, Deadpool took the world completely by surprise. This included the film’s production studio, 20th Century Fox, who had allowed the project to languish in development for over a decade before finally ceding to public opinion after conceptual footage was leaked online. Fox only allotted the film a $58M budget (less than half of the original Iron Man‘s $140M), but Deadpool won over the public with a stellar marketing campaign, and consequently went on to set a worldwide box office record for R-rated film earnings.
The in-development sequel to Deadpool has made headlines recently with the departure of director Tim Miller from the project, reportedly due to creative differences with star Ryan Reynolds. A more recent update suggested that the these culminated with a disagreement over who should play the heroes new co-star, Cable.
Today The Wrap disclosed further details from an anonymous insider’s description of the situation.
“There were two totally different movies on the table, and one of them just wasn’t Deadpool.”

According to The Wrap’s source, Ryan Reynolds and writers Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick wanted to craft a “scrappy”, raucous, and inexpensive film, similar to the original. Miller, whose background is in special effects, wanted to create a more visually extravagant film that would explore the Deadpool mythos. Miller’s vision would have reportedly cost three times as much as the original film. The studio apparently passed on his vision and he has since moved on to a separate Fox production, Influx, an adaptation of the cyber-crime thriller novel by Daniel Suarez.

A new wrinkle has appeared in the story, casting The Wrap’s allegations in doubt. Moments after their post, Steven Weintraub of Collider followed up on Twitter, dismissing their report as incorrect.
I'm not going to say much about the Deadpool 2 drama but Miller did not want a sequel that would cost 3 times as much. That's bullshit.
— Steven Weintraub (@colliderfrosty) October 25, 2016
At this point, with details in contest between insiders, and no names to point to, it’s entirely possible that we’ll never get the full story behind Miller’s departure. The Wrap’s take certainly sounds plausible, though it also may have been that the situation wasn’t so cut and dry.
Tim Miller got a fantastic career break with the first film, but if building stylish worlds is where he shines the brightest, it would make sense that he would want his next project to play to his strengths. Many fans of Deadpool could argue, however, that the anti-hero doesn’t need spectacle to work. In fact, it might even detract from his unique charm.
Where do you stand? Would you have rather seen a Deadpool 2 that blows the doors off the spectacle gauge, or are his adventures fine at their current budget? Let us know in the comments section, and stay tuned to Screen Rant for updates on the Deadpool sequel as they hit.

[h=1]Deadpool 2 Gets a Working Title[/h]

Since the initial concept footage for Deadpoolwas leaked in 2014, there has been a meteoric rise for theproperty over at Fox Studios. It all culminated with the release of the film this past February, that resulted in it becoming the highest grossing R-rated movie of all-time and it seemed that the franchise was infallible.
Deadpool 2 has been in development since the original was still filming, with screenwriters Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick (Zombieland), as well as the movie’s star and producer Ryan Reynolds firmly guiding the ship. However, this past weekend, the sequel and the franchise as a whole, was dealt a huge blow when it was revealed that director Tim Miller would not be returning to the director’s chair for the upcoming movie.
Despite the behind-the-scenes drama over at Fox Studios, it seems as if the sequel is still moving ahead. According to ComicBook, they have confirmed an earlier report of a working title for the sequel and it might be slightly unexpected. While the movie is in production, it will be known to the cast, crew, (and fans) as “Love Machine.”

Big movies often use fake titles for their films while they are in production. The movie’s creators often choose a deceptive title for two general reasons: The title serves as a placeholder internally for the movie’s crew, until a final name is settled upon; and the second reason is probably of more importance, as the secret titles are also meant to throw nosy fans and reporters off of the given production’s scent. It’s a practice that has gone back for decades, with Return of the Jedi, probably setting the standard with it’s title, Blue Harvest, during production in the early 1980s.
The discovery of the movie’s title does seem convenient, especially in light of all of the recent reports of turmoil in the production. However, it still may provide clues shedding light on the direction that Reynolds may be taking in the sequel. It has been widely reported that there will be two major additions to Deadpool 2, including Marvel Comics mainstays, Cable and Domino. Domino has been a love interest of Deadpool in the past and it’s still unclear if Morena Baccarin (Gotham) will be reprising her role of Vanessa in the sequel.
However, this is Deadpool after all. The more hilarious option would be to have it be a reference to Cable himself. The stoic mutant from the future should provide the perfect straight-man foil to the zany antics of Wade Wilson. Perhaps, the title is simply a running joke and referendum on their partnership in the film, Deadpool’s comedic infatuation with the impossibly cool mutant from the future, or even Cable’s cybernetic arm itself (which seems custom made for cuddling).
A new director for Deadpool 2 still needs to be chosen, as well as major decisions in the casting department are still up in the air. So expect to hear much more from Deadpool 2 in the coming weeks as details of the sequel are finalized.

[h=1]Deadpool 2: John Wick Co-Director in the Running to Helm[/h]

Deadpool was a surprise smash hit at the box office earlier this year, taking in $782 million worldwide in theaters against a $58 million budget and earning generally great reviews, to boot. 20th Century Fox didn’t take long to officially green-light Deadpool 2 thereafter, bringing the main players who helped to make The Merc With a Mouth’s first solo movie – including, star Ryan Reynolds, screenwriters Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick, and director Tim Miller – back onboard to get the sequel up and off the ground.
The project has since hit a snag, with Miller having stepped down as director, reportedly over artistic differences with Reynolds (who has greater creative control on the sequel) about the approach to take on Deadpool 2. It’s since been expected that Fox would be quick to find a replacement for Miller, what with several actresses currently testing for the role of Domino. The latter X-Men comic book character, along with her fellow new addition Cable and Wade Wilson himself, is going to be a key player in the next Deadpool film (as the Ferris Bueller’s Day Off-inspired Deadpool post-credits scene teased).

An official replacement for Miller has yet to be found, but seasoned movie news “scooper” Jeff Sneider (working for Mashable) is reporting that David Leitch – the co-director of John Wick – is the frontrunner to step in as the director on Deadpool 2. Fox is said to be considering other replacement helmsmen too, but according to Sneider’s sources “by most accounts, 20th Century Fox has found its man.”
David Leitch and Chad Stahelski on the John Wick set

It’s being reported that Miller and Reynolds had very different visions for what Deadpool 2 should be – with Miller favoring a bigger-budgeted and more “stylized” take, but Reynolds wanting to stick with the more rough around the edges, mid-range budget feel and R-Rated design of the first Deadpool (an approach that Reese and Wernick have also said they want for Deadpool 2). It’s easy to see how the co-director of the equally “scrappy”, but thrilling, R-Rated action movie that is John Wick would be considered a good match for that job description. That Leitch belongs to the same agency as Reynolds, the WME (as noted by Mashable), only further works in favor of him landing the Deadpool 2 director position.
Leitch has an established track record of working on the X-Men franchise too, having served as the stunt coordinator on X-Men Origins: Wolverine (the first movie in which Reynolds played Wade Wilson) and as the second unit director on The Wolverine. He has recently branched out into movie solo directing too, having called the shots (alone) on the espionage thriller The Coldest City, starring Charlize Theron and James McAvoy. Leitch is loosely attached to direct a few other projects at the moment – but with filming on Deadpool 2 still expected to begin by the first half of 2017, the Merc With a Mouth’s sequel would come next for Leitch, should he indeed sign on to direct.

[h=1]Deadpool 2 Director Shortlist Includes The Martian Writer[/h]

As the superhero genre continues to saturate the box office, studios are looking to break from typical superhero film conventions. Marvel Studios introduced a more overtly comedic style to the Marvel Cinematic Universe with Guardians of the Galaxy, which paid off big time at the box office – and the studio is looking to capitalize on that success with Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 next May. 20th Century Fox ramped up the raunchy with adult superhero action/comedy Deadpool this year, and saw meteoric success as the film became the highest-grossing R-rated movie of all time.
As a result of Deadpool‘s success, 20th Century Fox decided to fast-track production on a sequel, and announced plans for Deadpool 2 earlier this year. However, despite major fan interest in the franchise (both emotionally and financially), its sequel has hit a bump in the road during pre-production. Deadpool director Tim Miller has backed out of the production on the sequel, reportedly over creative differences with lead Ryan Reynolds (including, a disagreement over Cable’s casting). The search for a new Deadpool 2 director has been underway since, with reports coming in that David Leitch (John Wick) is a front-runner.

We’ve received news since, however, that two other intriguing names could potentially snatch the coveted creative role. A report from Deadline reveals that both Drew Goddard and Magnus Martens have pitched to Fox in an attempt to bag the director spot. Goddard is a prolific screenwriter, who has written (or written for) such TV shows and movies as Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Daredevil, Cloverfield, and The Martian, in addition to having directed the cult hit The Cabin in the Woods.Norwegian television directorMartens recently stepped behind the camera for Luke Cage‘s episode 8 and an episode of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. Though Leitch is still a strong candidate for the position, it’s noteworthy that the studio is still exploring other options.

Goddard, who earned an Oscar nomination for Best Adapted Screenplay with The Martian, has been poised to direct a superhero film for quite some time now. Sony originally signed him on to direct their The Amazing Spider-Man spin-off Sinister Six, before Marvel took over the franchise with the upcoming Spider-Man: Homecoming. Though Goddard is holding out hope for a Marvel-endored Sinister Six, in the meantime this could be a big boon for the writer/director. Magnus Martens likewise did fine work on Luke Cage and Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., but has yet to direct superheroes for the big screen. The resume for both of these candidates arguably bolsters their chances at landing the Deadpool 2 directing job.
Leitch is still the presumed frontrunner for Deadpool 2, but it sounds like Goddard and Martens are very much in the running. Leitch’s impressive resume also includes stunt work/second unit directing for superhero films, but Goddard especially has played a hand in many successful genre titles over the past decade. His work on The Cabin in the Woods (which Goddard co-wrote with Joss Whedon)proves that Goddard can helm a great genre parody without sacrificing action, and his writing experience shows that he knows how to immerse himself in the superhero world.
If any one of the three aforementioned filmmakers wind up directing Deadpool 2, it should improve the odds of the sequel delivering yet another round of crowd-pleasing vulgarity. We’re excited to keep you updated on the situation as it continues to unfold.

[h=1]Deadpool 2 Loses Composer Junkie XL[/h]

Surprising everyone as the runaway blockbuster hit of early 2016, Deadpool offered Marvel Comics fans of the notorious Merc with a Mouth the kind of feature-length adaptation of the ever popular character that had been sorely missing from the X-Men movie franchise – unless you count the butchered Wade Wilson appearence in X-Men Origins: Wolverine from 2009. Starting as a passion project between actor Ryan Reynolds and first-time director Tim Miller, the movie has since gone down as one of the most popular superhero films of all time – both in terms of critical reception and box office draw.
Reynolds and Miller, as well as Deadpool writers Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick, were all lined up to work together again on Deadpool 2 – until Miller has since dropped out as director on the sequel and moved on to produce the Sonic the Hedgehog live-action/CGI film, instead. Reportedly, the split came due to creative differences between Reynolds and Miller over the sequel – among them, the matter of which actor should play Cable (the time-traveling mutant teased in Deadpool‘s post-credits scene). Now another central talent that worked on the first Deadpool is passing on the second installment.

Per an official Facebook post, composer Junkie XL – whose irreverent and catchy music provided a stellar backdrop for all of the antics featured throughout Deadpool – will not be returning to provide the score for Deadpool 2. Citing his own personal bout of “soul searching” after learning that Miller had stepped down as the sequel’s director, Junkie XL has decided to not score the second film as he believes the first one was integrally tied up in Miller’s distinctive vision. Speaking to his respect for Miller, Junkie XL wrote:
“Since it was revealed that Deadpool’s brilliant creative director Tim Miller will not be involved in the project anymore, I have undertaken some soul searching. Tim was the driving force behind Deadpool and me getting involved in this amazing project. Deadpool without Tim at the helm just does not sit right with me and that is why I have decided not to be involved in the second chapter.”

Even though Junkie XL will be moving away from writing the original score for Deadpool 2, he does not take what he calls a “difficult decision” lightly, but reiterates that, “It’s hard to walk away from something so unique, but it also has to feel right.” Whether fans of the original will feel the same way is up for debate – especially with such monumental directing talents on the shortlist to replace Miller on Deadpool 2 now.
With John Wick co-director David Leitch and filmmaker Drew Goddard (The Cabin in the Woods) reportedly among those under-considered to helm Deadpool 2 in Miller’s place, it’s more likely than not that Reynolds and company will manage to find another A-list composer to take Junkie XL’s former spot on the sequel – though it’s hard to deny that the latter’s musical sensibility fit the first Deadpool exceptionally well. However things shake out, here’s to hoping that the cast and crew of the second Deadpool movie can shake-off Miller and Junkie XL’s departures and deliver the great sequel that fans are hoping for.

[h=1]Deadpool 2 Production Start Reportedly Delayed[/h]

After this year’s Deadpool earned widespread critical praise and $782.6 million at the worldwide box office, it became inevitable that a sequel would be in order. Fox quickly gave Deadpool 2 the green light, and for a while the expectation was that it would reunite the core members of the original’s creative team: Ryan Reynolds, writers Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick, and director Tim Miller. However, the project recently hit a snag when Miller stepped down due to creative differences (allegedly over the casting of Cable and/or the scope of the film), creating a giant void that needs to be filled. The studio is on the hunt for a replacement, with John Wick co-helmer David Leitch thought to be the frontrunner.
When all the pieces were in place, the plan was for Deadpool 2 to begin production at the start of 2017. One would think that with no director currently attached, the schedule would be altered, but a report over the weekend suggested that the sequel would start rolling the cameras in January 2017. That caused some to be concerned, since it would allow Miller’s successor just two months to prep before filming. Those worried can now breathe a sigh of relief, since the word is Deadpool 2 will be slightly delayed.

The news comes courtesy of Collider, whose sources say that when Miller was in line to direct, principal photography would have commenced in March 2017, as opposed to January. The team was in the early stages of casting new supporting roles such as Cable and Domino shortly before Miller departed, and that process will most likely be pushed back. Since Deadpool 2 does not have a director in place, it would be borderline impossible to complete all that has to be done between now and January (finalizing the script, constructing sets, etc.). Reynolds is going to have to wait a bit before he plays the Merc With a Mouth again.

As disappointing as this may be for fans, it’s the better course of action. With the character becoming one of Fox’s most popular and marketable, it would be a shame if Deadpool 2 was rushed and ended up being a step down from its predecessor. It’s encouraging that they are going to take their time, since it will hopefully allow the new director an opportunity to insert his or her own ideas and put together a behind-the-scenes team they’re comfortable with. The studio has yet to give Deadpool 2 an official release date (though January 2018 is widely expected), so it’s not like there’s pressure to meet a specific deadline. No doubt, the studio wants to strike when the iron is hot and get the followup in theaters sooner rather than later, but it’s more important that they make sure everything is of the best quality before moving ahead to the next phase.
In the past, Reese and Wernick have discussed their intentions to keep Deadpool 2 within the same budget range of the first movie ($58 million), so a minor postponement in production shouldn’t be too harmful. For what it’s worth, Deadpool‘s principal photography took place over a period of two months in 2015, meaning that even if things are held back until the summer, the sequel will most likely still be on track for that targeted January 2018 premiere. Hopefully a director will come on-board soon and the ball can get rolling once again.

[h=1]Leslie Jones Wants To Be In Deadpool 2[/h]

Leslie Jones is having a moment. The comedy veteran went from “Angry Subway Patron” in Trainwreck to Ghostbusters breakout in under a year, solidifying herself as a Hollywood frontrunner. She’s proven her reputation off-screen, too: her live tweets on the summer Olympics were arguably better than the events themselves, and her presidential debate commentary added much needed levity to an exhausting campaign season.
Jones has picked up plenty of major roles since, most recently starring in Jared Hess’ (Napoleon Dynamite) Masterminds alongside all-stars Kristen Wiig, Owen Wilson, Kate McKinnon, Jason Sudeikis, and Zach Galifianakis. She’s next set to appear in animated kids flick Illumination, but she’s also eyeing something a lot less family-friendly: Deadpool.
On Wednesday, Jones took to her famous Twitter feed to tweet at the Merc with a Mouth himself, Ryan Reynolds, saying “I want to be in deadpool. I could be smart mouth side kick. And my power would be loudness!!” The request wasn’t totally random: Entertainment Weekly announced Reynolds as their entertainer of the year on Monday morning, and one commenter in particular took issue with it, arguing that Jones had “won Twitter” in 2016. Jones, however, felt otherwise, saying “I’m sorry I agree he is dope,” before then making her request for a role in Deadpool 2.
@VancityReynolds I want to be in deadpool. I could be smart mouth side kick. And my power would be loudness!!
— Leslie Jones (@Lesdoggg) December 7, 2016
Jones has a clear affinity for sharp-witted humor, but could she tackle the darkness that underscores Deadpool’s smart-ass demeanor? It would certainly be refreshing to see Jones broaden her on-screen horizons so early on in her rise, and seeing her as the anti-hero’s loud, sassy sidekick wouldn’t be a stretch from her online persona. On Jones’s end, it could be a brilliant career move. Superhero movies are very of-the-moment, and Deadpool was one of 2016’s biggest hits across genres. It earned a staggering $782 million worldwide and fast became the X-Men universe’s highest-grossing film of all time.
Still, its sequel has experienced a rocky pre-production, which may throw off its success the second time around. Director Tim Miller made a sudden exit in October, leading composer Junkie XL to call it quits, too. John Wick’s David Leitch has since been confirmed to helm, but a little more star power couldn’t hurt. After all, Jones has built quite a rabid fan base. Deadpool 2 is rumored to start filming in January, so any last-minute additions need to happen fast. Here’s to hoping Reynolds is down to squeeze her in for a cameo.

[h=1]Deadpool 2 Director Explains Departure & Cable Casting Rumors[/h]

Throughout multiple X-Men timelines and countless Wolverine appearances, little did Fox know that their biggest hit was sitting on the shelf. After many years of being stuck in the pre-production process, Ryan Reynolds was finally able to get Deadpool off the ground. While he was instrumental in the getting the movie made, so was director Tim Miller. He had been attached to the movie for years and after the success of the film, his directorial debut set him up to have the chance to return for the sequel. Unfortunately, Miller left Deadpool 2 earlier this year, which has led to many reports as to what exactly happened behind the scenes.
Some reports claimed Miller and Reynolds were not seeing eye to eye on several aspects of the sequel, such as its style, casting decisions, and more, but Miller continued to stay quiet through it all. Reynolds recently made his thoughts known about Miller’s departure, and now the former director has broken his silence on the situation.
As part of the 100th episode of CG Garage (via Collider), Miller stopped by and revealed some of his thoughts on having to leave the sequel. One report from his falling out with Fox and Reynolds claimed that Miller wanted a heavily increased budget and a different style for the sequel, but Miller is claiming this all to be false in his first statements since leaving.

I just want to say one thing to the geek audience out there, because it’s important to me what the geeks and nerds of the world think because they are my brothers and sisters. I didn’t want to make some stylized movie that was 3 times the budget. If you read the internet — who cares, really? But for those of you who do, I wanted to make the same kind of movie that we made before because I think that’s the right movie to make for the character. So don’t believe what you read on the internet.

So if Miller and Reynolds weren’t feuding over the style of the sequel, could the casting of Cable be the thing that stood in their way? Cable was promised to appear in the post-credit scene and reports pointed towards Miller favoring Kyle Chandler for the role. This move was not liked by Reynolds, and apparently, not be Miller either.
I wanted to do the same thing [as the first movie]. Kyle Chandler was not going to be Cable. All this stuff that I read kind of kills me.
Miller went on to recount disagreements that were had during the post-production process, but said they were nothing but typical arguments. While his days involved with Deadpool seem to be behind him, he is not holding any grudges as far as he is leading on. Instead, he wishes everyone involved nothing but the best.

I wish them nothing but good — I hope it’s great. I hope it’s a great movie. Because I love the character and I think it’s great, and I love all the actors and I want to see them successful again. I haven’t met David, but he’s a great guy from everything I’ve heard. I want nothing but the best for the character. And for Fox, too. They deserve to make more money. They need to make more money [laughs]. They were great. They were terrific.

Miller has since been replaced by John Wick co-director David Leitch as the film gears up for production sometime next year. As for Miller? He is now set to produce a Sonic the Hedgehog movie for Fox, showing that he did not burn any bridges on his way out. While his days involved with the X-Men universe are no more, many are hoping that he will continue to get chances to direct high-budget action films. Kevin Smith has already suggested him to take over The Flash, as fans continue to wonder about his chances for other films as well.
While Miller doesn’t get into the nitty-gritty details as to why the partnership could not continue, it is not surprising to see him reflect positively on the experience overall. Sure, he may not be involved anymore, but Deadpool gave him a chance to show what he can do on the big screen. What exactly transpired behind the scenes may never be known, but it seems as though Miller, Reynolds, and everyone else have moved past the situation with the hope that Deadpool will continue to bring humor and violence to the theaters for many more years.

[h=1]Deadpool 2 Reportedly To Begin Production in June 2017[/h]

The story of Deadpool is a true Cinderella story, presuming Cinderella had an extreme healing factor, was pansexual, and had a foul mouth; the handsome prince was a lovely proto-mutant named Vanessa; and the wicked stepmother and stepsisters were cut back to Ajax and Angel Dust due to budgetary constraints. Like many storied productions, though, the first film struggled to find its outlet, as director Tim Miller, writers Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick, and actor Ryan Reynolds lovingly nurtured the project over the course of a decade. Deadpool 2, on the other hand, was announced even before its predecessor shattered box office records last February – with a third feature already on the way (with X-Force!).
Early reports suggested Deadpool 2 could start shooting as early as January of next year. However, the departure of Miller left a power void which understandably slowed things down. As a result, cameras won’t roll quite as early as initially expected.
What’s Filming, which tracks productions in Vancouver and across British Columbia, recently announced a potential start for Deadpool’s sequel on an unspecified date in June of 2017 (via Omega Underground). If accurate, the later date gives 20th Century Fox time to bring new director David Leitch (John Wick) up to speed with the film. A later start also would allow FOX’s X-team an opportunity to adjust for any alterations brought about by Miller’s departure and Leitch’s vision for the film.

Producer Simon Kinberg recently reaffirmed his commitment to creating a low-key sequel in the spirit of the first film, but making sure Deadpool 2 is still “fresh and original.” While co-writers Reese and Wernick long-ago finished their shooting script, they along with Leitch will have additional time to tweak it or add any additional details or characters, if desired or required. The production delay should also give its new director a chance to get acquainted with his cast and crew and prepare for the Merc with a Mouth’s undoubtedly action-packed shoot.
While FOX’s announcement of shooting delays was inevitable following Miller’s departure, and the subsequent hunt for the next helmer, many fans might have been worried that the sequel would get bumped from a 2018 (originally January, then March) premiere altogether. However, features often experience production delays due to unforeseeable occurrences. Recently, the studio set two release dates, one of them could be for Deadpool 2 and account for delays. Leitch and crew should have more than enough time to crank through filming and post-production in order to meet the first of the (tentative) release dates of November 2, 2018, if not earlier. While the delay may frustrate some Deadpool fanatics eagerly awaiting his return to the silver screen, the June start will give FOX a chance to get things perfect for the sequel.
Of course, pushing DP2 back could make things a little crowded for FOX’s production slate, since filming is also scheduled to begin on the latest X-Men picture in May in Montreal. Fortunately, since Deadpool is generally detached from the greater X-Universe, the close productions shouldn’t interfere with each other. And who knows, maybe FOX will be tempted to send Wade and Cable back in time to mess with the ’90s X-Men (or not).

[h=1]Deadpool 2 Budget Will Not Be ‘Phenomenally Bigger’[/h]

There are few productions as anticipated as the upcoming sequel, Deadpool 2. The R-rated adaptation of Marvel Comics’ most irreverent superhero was released last year to huge acclaim and box-office success. The instant that the character reemerged in a post-credit sequence in his Ferris Bueller-stylebathrobe and teased of a sequel, the internet has been ablaze with speculation.
The original 2016 Ryan Reynolds-led film had a long and circuitous pre-production that resulted in the film taking almost a decade to get off the ground. It was only after test footage was leaked on the internet that Fox Studios gave the movie the greenlight due to an overwhelming fan response to video. The movie eventually had an enormous $132 million domestic opening and went on to gross over $783 million worldwide, against a meager production budget estimated to be as low as $58 million.
A profit margin that large usually signals that there will be newfound financial flexibility for the follow-up installment. However in an interview with Variety, Reynolds – who is also a producer on the project – explains that may not be the case for the upcoming sequel:
“The budget is not going to be phenomenally bigger. Who knows? Maybe the budget will be bigger — anything can happen.”

There were a lot of reports and speculation late last year about the departure of director Tim Miller from the sequel to his hit movie. This includes an assertion – that Miller has gone on to directly refute – that there were conflicts about casting and the overall budget for the followup. Interestingly enough, Reynolds seems to hedge his bets about the scope of the sequel, which may signal that story and budgeting isn’t quite complete, or he’s simply trolling those that have been following the story in typical Deadpool fashion.
Deadpool has surprisingly turned up in the most unlikely of places recently – awards season. The raunchy comedy was nominated for a Golden Globe for Best Motion Picture – Comedy or Musical, along with Ryan Reynolds himself for Best Performance by an Actor – Musical or Comedy at this year’s ceremonies. That is truly the crowning achievement of the astronomical rise for the movie and property as a whole. Suddenly, and unexpectedly, the Deadpool franchise has the distant scent of prestige, so it will be interesting to see how the sequel will be handled.
Fortunately for loyal Deadpool fans, there shouldn’t be too much worry for concern, regardless if the budget expands by $10 or $100 million. Along with the newly-hired director David Leitch – whose ability to stage stylish action has been proven with John Wick the original screenwriting team, Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick, along with Reynolds all seem to be fully dedicated to delivering a sequel worthy of the original.

[h=1]Deadpool 2 Is A Solo Movie ‘With A Lot of Characters’[/h]

Deadpoolwas inarguably one of the biggest genuine surprises and successes of the year in 2016, and because of that, there’s been an understandably high amount of attention being paid to the sequel’s creative development process so far. Whether it be which characters will or will not be introduced in it, or even Tim Miller’s highly talked about departure from the film, it seems like the questions about Deadpool 2 haven’t stopped since the film was first announced.
With Deadpool breaking all expectations and receiving multiple different awards and guild nominations over the past few weeks, conversation and speculation surrounding the sequel has only increased as of late. One of the most notable questions about the film at this point seems to be how Wade Wilson will remain the sequel’s sole focus, even with major characters like Cable confirmed to be appearing in it.
During a recent interview with Deadline about the film’s surprising awards attention, writers Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick talked briefly about where they’re at in the writing process for the sequel, and how they’re planning on keeping it Deadpool’s film, even with “a lot of characters” being introduced and playing large roles in it:

“Yeah, it’ll be a solo movie. It’ll be populated with a lot of characters, but it is still Deadpool’s movie, this next one. We’re pushing forward very hard. I think by every account we will shoot it this year, and we’re on our multiple draft now. It’s taken different twists and turns, but it’s really coalescing, and we’re very, very excited. We’re a little nervous, because now we feel like we have to live up to the first movie, but at the same time, we have to have faith, and we have an extreme passion still, and as long as we have passion still, and it’s not a mercenary, venal play, which we don’t think this is, I think we’ll be in good shape.”

Everyone involved in the film, Reese and Wernick included, have been quick to assure fans that the sequel won’t be wildly different from its predecessor, which is understandable considering how hard it is for most blockbuster franchises to maintain a certain level of quality once they find popular success and multiple different voices become involved in the creative process. However, with Deadpool, which was a film that succeeded mostly because of its creative freedom and budgetary constraints, there seems to be an extra level of precaution coming from the filmmakers this time around.
Both Reese and Wernick’s voices were instrumental in the original film’s difficult tonal balance, evidenced by the fact they were the only key creative team members to be praised in the film’s mock opening credits. Their continued involvement in the sequel has been one of its most reassuring factors, especially following reports of creative differences between star Ryan Reynolds and Miller, which may have led to the latter’s unexpected departure. Luckily, with John Wick co-director David Leitch onboard as Miller’s replacement, it seems like the sequel has everything going for it that it needs to maintain the same tone and unique feel of its predecessor, even with a whole lot of new and returning characters likely ready and willing to vie for Wade Wilson’s spotlight.

[h=1]How Deadpool 2 Will Set-Up the X-Force Movie[/h]

Marvel Studios sent shockwaves through the film industry when they released The Avengers, inciting seemingly every other studio to establish their own lucrative shared universe. Unfortunately, this hasn’t always offered the most focused results, bringing forth films like The Amazing Spider-Man 2 and Batman v Superman, which arguably could have functioned better without the burden of mandatory world-building (toward Sinister Six and Justice League respectively). 20th Century Fox is struggling in their own corner with an abysmal response to their reboot of Fantastic Four and ebbing popularity of their X-Men franchise. Fortunately, Deadpool is offering them a new chance to re-imagine the X-folk with a whole new team of edgy mutants in X-Force.
Deadpool 2 is set to include Cable and Domino, two occasional teammates of the Merc with a Mouth in this black-ops-focused alt-X-team. It’s rumored that Deadpool 3 will tie directly into the X-Force mythos, either as an establishing precursor or a sister project to the team film. Naturally, this has led to some concerns that Fox will mishandle Deadpool’s solo-chapters in an attempt to launch their all-new franchise.
Collider recently spoke to Deadpool 2‘s writers, Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick, about their approach to establishing a larger world surounding the Deadpool brand. Said Reese:
“There is a responsibility we have to the X-Force universe, and I do think we will not disappoint the fans going into Deadpool 2… Its purpose is not to set up X-Force. It will likely set up X-Force, but the drive of the movie won’t be our eyes on Movie 3.”

Wernick added:
“We never want to let the tail wag the dog. We want to tell the best Deadpool story we can. But I do think we have a responsibility to think about a larger universe in the way that Marvel does and start to put pieces in place. Some of these movies feel overstuffed and almost choking with the need to set up eighteen different things that pay off down the road, and we want to avoid that responsibility to the extent that it hurts us. We want to hint at things, we want to plan some characters, and we want to make some nods, but we’re very, very cognizant about making sure that Deadpool is above all a Deadpool movie.”
This news will likely ease some fans minds, especially in conjunction with the assurance that they plan to build a faithful, though streamlined approach to Cable’s backstory. The duo seems to understand the pitfalls associated with building a complex sandbox for their heroes to play in, and are keen to learn from the mistakes of others. Good news for fans of Deadpool, and hopefully for the future of the X-Force brand.
