Hey guys,

So i upgraded from a Q6600 to a Core i5 750 not too long ago. I expected this generation to last at least a year or so but now only a few months later 1155 has been introduced. Is there any point in upgrading from 1156 to 1155? What performance increases, if any, are to be expected? Should i stick to the i5 for now?

FYI, i don't use the PC for gaming i have a 360 for that. This pc is used for music production so pure processing power is what i'm after. I'm happy with the i5 performance for now but i'm mainly concerned about future proofing my pc. Thanks for your help.

Gaming performance increases are minimal UNLESS you can afford a couple of 580s or 6970s (or 6950s unlocked). Oc'ing potential is higher, 4GHz+ speeds on air is easily possible. As the clock generator in on the chipset, you MUST get the "k" editions to over clock. Others have limited oc'ing abilities.

Intel has a tick-tock release program. Every 12 months you get a refresh, while every 24 months you get a new architecture. Thus ivy bridge will come out by the end of the year (refresh of sandy bridge), While new HAswell architecture based processors will come out in early 2013

DONT be caught up in a numbers/ speed/ my processor is better than yours game. If what you have works for you, you are good to go!
