Hello guys it is my first post in this forum. I am sorry if I post it in wrong section.
I need a little help with buying a console.

1) Which one is cheaper an XBox360 or a PS3?
2) I have an old LCD (Samsung 933BW), will it be able to connect to my console & play all latest games?
3) Games like WWE12 require 1080p would I be able to run them on my LCD?
4) I see a lot of cheap used consoles sold at market, fat PS3/fat xbox are they worth getting or should I just buy a new console?
5) Will my speakers connect with the console? Logitech z640
6) Will the online gaming work with a 1MB internet connection?
7) Do you guys recommend getting the cracked console or just the legit one.

Please bear with my noobiness ;).Thank you.

Hello wizgamer and welcome to PakGamers. Nobody is a noob here, although I do consider myself one at times myself but in all seriousness you reserve the right to ask your questions whenever and whichever possible way you can think of.

Anyways, let me inform you that we recently had a similar thread made by a PG member, LordIT and he was able to make up his mind rather quickly and opted for the PlayStation 3, and rightly so. I'd like you to go through each one of the posts

in that thread to help you make up your mind as well. Here's that thread: General Gaming[buying-advice]-xbox360-vs-ps3-140293/

Now, I shall answer your questions, as simply as I possibly can.

1) There isn't really ANY significant different in the prices of the two consoles and they very much stand on the same price point, although PlayStation 3 does take the edge. So, in short the PlayStation 3 Slim.

2) This particular model probably won't work with either of the consoles as these consoles require an HDCP compliant monitor to function. They ar enot difficult to dfind, just look for one that says HDCP compliant on it and has more ports than just a DVI port. You may as well want to consult LordIT, asking him which monitor he got eventually. You might just have to sell this one for a new one, like LordIT did but it's upto you really. (I do feel you have a good monitor though).

3) Those games SUPPORT upto 1080p resolution, 1080p is NOT a necessity so any HDCP compliant LCD would be able to show the game, don't worry.

4) You should buy a brand new console in my opinion, NEVER go for used stuff when it comes to electronics. Wait, if you have to save up for a new one but by all means go for a brnad new system. ANd buy PS3 Slim model, NOT the FAT version.

5) Your speakers will connect to your monitor and output the sound from your PlayStation 3, yes.

6) I have a 1 MBPS connection and PS3 online gaming is a smooth sailing for me. So yes it should definitely work depending on the quality of your connection.

7) By ALL means, get a legit UNMODDED console and if you ask me, NEVER EVER get you PS3 modded if you are to enjoy the awesome Multiplayer experience that it has to offer. Original games may be expensive but you can always get games on

rent from renowned , reliable members on PakGamers (I can specify which) and enjoy full games for a couple of weeks, finish them and play their online before you decide to buy your favourite ones.

I hope that answers your questions.

Feel free to ask again if you still require more info. on something.

EDIT: Gosh! My response took so long that Cerebrus was able to write his reply in the meanwhile. Sheesh! :p

Thanks for the excellent response Hussey it was really helpful rather then simple yes/no :)(y). I read that thread when someone referred me on shoutbox however the thread was pretty long. I am tending more towards the PS3 after reading your response

1) My LCD monitor says on box it is DVI with HDCP also link here suggests the same but I have the black model 933BW - TECH SPECS | SAMSUNG
2) How much would the audio converter cost?
3) My LCD is not 1080p so how would the games run? Would they look blurry?
4) Someone told me "XBox achanak se oor jata hey" Is it true news ? Also is that same case with new PS3 console?
5) If I get modded PS3 will it be turned back to un modded easily?

Thank you.

Thanks so much for the compliments. I shall be really glad if I can help you make the right purchase for you.

Anyways, here I go again. :p

1) Your LCD does say it's HDCP compliant but I was kinda surprised to check a few forums where people got this same model checked by Samsung's authorized technicians and found out that these displays are not exactly HDCP compliant and for almost each person I have checked with on the internet, this display has NOT worked for ANYONE, instead it gives a blank screen when connected to the PS3. So, I'd suggest you keep it for use with your PC only (in actuality it IS a very good monitor, just that it won't connect to your PS3).

2) It's not exactly an audio converter that I was referring to, but it's a DVI to HDMI wire or HDMI to DVI wire (same thing) whatever way you might want to put it. Basically the DVI end connects to the DVI port behind the monitor and the HDMI
end connects to the HDMI port on the PlayStation 3 which then emits the signal in HD to your display.I don't think it costs more than Rs. 1000 but you wil have to check with some premium sellers who sell it on Pakgamers or even your local computer shops (good ones so that you get a good quality product).

3) If your LCD is NOT 1080p, I am afraid the results would be a little blurry but they are not exactly game breaking for too disheartening but trust me I have seen results both in HD and non-HD and I can tell you there's a world of difference when you compare the two. Go HD, I'd say. For that you can sell your monitor and add some amount to get a decent Full HD display or you could just keep this and if you have the finances and you have no issues buying a new diaplay for the PS3, by all means get a good 1080p display (careful though, there are some really crappy ones out there which look really good from the outside, on design etc., but they have horrible viewing angles). Tell me if you need advice on that too.

4) Well, there are rumours that fly around just like that but bear one thing in mind, the new Slim units for both, PS3 and XBox 360 are very energy efficient and they wont just blow up like that unless you mess them up, intentionally or with extra bit of stupidity.
Secondly, PS3 SLIM consoles have absolutely no such issues and I would again highly recommend you to go for the SLIM model of PlaySTation 3 (NOT FAT mind you).

Reasons: Ps3 Slim is not just an excellent gaming console but it is a fantastic BluRay player that plays all sort sof BluRay movies. It is highly power efficient and would turn itself off when it gets too hot after way too long hours of play, it will NOT blow up or get damaged at all. I will highly recommend this sytem if you are to enjoy FREE online player multiplayer as well. I hope that sounds enough convincing.

5) Once you jailbreak (mod) the PlayStation 3, it will NOT be able to go online on PlayStation Network and you will be stuck with offline solo play. If you ask me, I shall NEVER advise that. Buy it legit, and let it remain original. There are ways to play games for cheap and I can help you with that too. Just take my advice and do NOT get it modded if you get the PlayStation 3.

Phew! I hope that would suffice.

Took a long time coming, sorry.

Feel free to ask again, if you wish. Here to help. :)

PS: One decent LCD which is not only the cheapest option available to you but also good in a way, although NOT 1080p is HP S2032a that a PG member Tultras suggested to LordIT in one of his posts on that thread I suggested you to read. This is that LCD: HP Home Desktops and Monitors for the Home & Home Office – HP S2032a LCD Monitor It's available on galaxy.com.pk for Rs. 10,300.
Btw, I still urege you to read through the complete thread I suggested, it really honestly does closely relate to your case, will only help you make a decision you know. :)

Guys, guys.. i want to have this one.

I see LordIT started quite the trend.

Hello guys it is my first post in this forum. I am sorry if I post it in wrong section.

5) Will my speakers connect with the console? Logitech z640
6) Will the online gaming work with a 1MB internet connection?
7) Do you guys recommend getting the cracked console or just the legit one.

Please bear with my noobiness ;).Thank you.
1) The cheaper console would be an xbox 360, but in my opinion the BETTER console ( that you should opt for, not feature-wise per se ) would be the PlayStation 3, and i recommend you just that, the PlayStation 3.

2) Yes, your monitor will be able to play all games, however it will play them at 1080i or at 720p ( which is a very good resolution ). Note: when upgrading your monitor look for a HDMI or a DVI port which is HDCP compliant which is necessary, otherwise you won't be able to play your console on it. Your LCD does have a HDCP-Compliant DVI port so you should be good.

3) Games like WWE'12 run on 1080p however that is not a necessity, they are able to run on various display resolutions such as 480i, 480p, 720i, 720p, 1080i, 1080p. With 1080P looking the best.

4) In my opinion, if you can afford a new one, go for it. Nothing beats getting a New/unused console. You can opt for a used console but DO NOT go for either of the FAT models as their failure rates are comparatively higher than their slim counterparts, and NEVER opt for a fat xbox360.

5) Yes.

6) The online will always work, however you may experience ' lag ' during some online play, depending on the games. ( it is not your internet connection, EVERYONE in pakistan experiences it, to some point ). Your connection should be fine.

7) Legit, online multiplayer will not work for you if you decide to play cracked. Plus, legit is WAY more fun.

Please bear with reading all the replies you're going to get.

Oh and no matter what, please do not listen to the people saying ' xbox live is better ' and ' the ps3 has no good games '.

Wait.. it's not HDCP, reviews said that it is able to play Blu-ray movies and such, which are typically HDCP encrypted. And various reviews state that it has HDCP functionality..

Anyway, where are the forums, link please, i must search on this.

@Hussey @Tultras thanks for your detailed guide. It has really helped clearing many questions in my mind now only question I have is how to connect audio with 5.1 speakers?

I don't think I will be watching movies on PS3 so blueray is not my priority. I could not find any website which states that 933BW is not HDCP, it is written on my LCD box that it is HDCP. Can you show me the links where it suggests my monitor is not HDCP? Nothing is bad as buying the console and then not getting it to work
HDMI-DVI connection to LCD monitor - GameAxis Forums Also this guy did not confirmed he got it to work, it was suggested by some members in this forum http://www.pakgamers.com/forums/f24/lcd-w-hdcp-capability-23438/

I also found that XBox 360 is very easy to connect to any LCD rather then a PS3 as PS3 converters are costly and hard to configure.

I think u didnt liked my simple replies
Barhal if your monitor has dvi port its hdcp capable either buy hdmi to dvi adapter plug it on lcd and hdmi cable from console to that adapter or a hdmi to dvi cable
On my 360, i was using hp 2009f monitor which was only dvi no hdmi and i was using hdmi to dvi. And it didnt supported audio
For getting audio i bought a vga cable of 360, took one of its plastic side because by default its too fat and u cannot plug hdmi plus audio video at same time, and got audio
Also by that cable u can get 1080 analog signal if ur lcd is not hdcp( im sure it is)
Dont know wether this thing gonna work on ps3 or not but i prefer ps3 over 360 anytime

cereberus Your first reply was too brief but it did give me pointers in the right direction anyway it was a little difficult for me to conclude with yes/no but I still thank you for it. I find this post really helpful. I am waiting for LCD response & as some people said figuring out an XBox360 is easy as compared to PS3. Thanks for your help brother.

Can i play xbox on a samsung 933bw monitor? - Yahoo! Answers
So sorry, wizgamer. My bad, I was looking at the wrong monitor, it was the 940BW that I saw complaints about.

Hmm, there isn't exactly any mention of a person connecting his/her PS3 to the model you have stated (atleast I haven't come across any in the search results) so I think we are safe to assume that with a DVI to HDMI wire, we really should be

good to go even if you keep the same monitor of yours and not but another one YET (assuming that your monitor is HDCP and now I do get the feweling that might as well BE HDCP compliant and should work well with the PS3).

My suggestion would be to buy a new PlayStation 3 Slim console (be it 160GB or 320GB, depends on your budget and preference) along with a DVI to HDMI wire, that Tultras had originally and rightly recommended and do NOT bother with a new LCD/LED yet because your current display should work (nevermind the non-HD results for now, you can always upgrade later when you have enough cash at hand: the main thing is to enjoy the PlayStation experience as of now ;) ).

Both, the XBox 360 and PlayStation 3 systems require HDCP compliance from an LCD display, so don't expect the XBox to be an 'easy thing to work with' etc. Just don't fall for this idea, please.
PlayStation 3 definitely has its genuine reasons to be preferred and you just can't afford to miss it, I am emphasising this once more. [Absolutely NO offence meant to Cerebrus]

Oh, and as far as the channel 5.1 speakers are concerned, they will connect to the back of your LCD display. There must be a port for the speakers.

You may ask again, if there's anything that you don't understand. :)

My apologies for the confusion.

Thanks for your reply. I am very happy that LCD issue is resolved now:). My speaker ports connect to the sound card in the pc there are 3 plugs (green orange & black). Which other cable I would need to connect my speakers with the PS3? Also, please specify me one good game that is fun to play online multiplayer & has good single player campaign also. I checked some online videos but the gameplay seemed to lag bad. Is it that enjoyable ?

Well, you don't need to connect any speaker sto you CONSOLE, just connect the wire from the speakers directly to the back of your monitor as far as the sound from speakers is concerned.

Already told you about how to get visual (video) output by connecting the DVI to HDMI cable and connecting the DVI end behind the monitor while the HDMI end to the back of your console in the HDMI port.

You probably watched videos from a person with a bad internet connection or was playing some really messed up game like COD: Modern Warfare 1 which is loaded with hackers and it's pretty much a global issue to get lag on games like those.

1 Game suggestion that ensures good solo as well as fun multiplayer experience: Get Killzone 3 with eyes closed. Should cost you no more than Rs. 1500 in good used condition.

Hmm, well you chose the right console for replacement but yeah you do make a point. Next-Generation is almost upon us already but it applies more likely to the next XBox, PS4 is not showing any signs of a reveal too soon to be honest so you're

good to go for now in my opinion. Don't feel uncomfortable. :)

Umm, i think there are some speakers which have AV ports in them ( the RGB wires ) so you can connect the sound via AV cable ( the red and white ones ) to the speaker itself that WILL give you sound.

Did y'all see the new Assassin's Creed trailer? They finally made a AC set in Japan & then they put a negro as the male protagonist. Ubisoft is taking cues from Disney, and it isn't gonna end well for them, just like Disney. Go woke, go broke!
