The FS11, a standard definition camera that records to 16GB of built-in flash memory, enough for over three hours of High Quality Video recording time. You can also expand this storage with an SDHC card (a high capacity SD card), or use a card to backup video you’ve already shot.
The camera is ready to use out of the box, and most people should have no trouble turning it on and shooting video without consulting the manual first. Canon has carried over the button layout from their digital still camera range, so anyone who has previously handled a Canon point-and-shoot camera should feel right at home.
The basic shooting mode on the FS11 will satisfy most users, and for the adventurous there are 11 different recording modes to choose from, with presets covering conditions that range from night-time to snow.
A CCD image sensor gives a resolution of 1152 x 864 pixels and despite not being high definition, the picture quality is great. The camera also employs an image stabiliser, which works by cannibalising some of that resolution to steady the image. The 37x optical zoom can actually be pushed out to a massive 45x by turning image stabilisation off, but you’ll need a tripod to produce a usable picture at such levels of magnification.
The 2.7-inch LCD works as your viewfinder and control screen, as there is no optical viewfinder on the camera. Opening the LCD, you’ll find all the controls placed around the screen that you’ll need to do quick edits and reviews. This is also where you change the settings for your camera, using an intuitive joystick to navigate. The record and zoom buttons are situated on top of the camera, for one-handed operation.
It’s worth noting that Canon has introduced a new system for its accessories, so previous lights and microphones will not fit in the new shoe. Microphones can, however, be connected through a standard 3.5mm jack on the inside of the LCD cover.
Overall, the FS11 is a great camera, both for beginners and enthusiasts.
I haven't used this one much. Actually not at all, since I'm more towards the still image side of life.
