So I'm trying to decide what should I go for. I have a background in Graphic Designing and thus the logical choice would seem to be web-design/front-end development but I'm also concerned about getting a good paying job which I don't know if being a design/front-end guy would be able to provide.

I'm in final year of Computer Engineering & deciding right now what to focus on and develop a niche.

How's the market right now for the following:

- Solely web-design/front end.
- PHP development.
- Node.js.
- Ruby on Rails.
- Java web application development.

If you guys could provide me with info regarding these and any other web development technologies that are currently being valued in the Pakistani IT industry, I'd be happy.

Also, would taking both web design and development seriously be a good idea? Although I'm more inclined towards web design but wanna do some dev too.

I'm not interested in desktop/Windows development, just the web stuff.

Waiting for teh awesome insights.

I would say mobile-web development is trendy right now. I am a graphics designer, not a developer so can't tell about which precise technologies. If you lean towards design, it would be better to have some basic dev know-how. However for starters you may go on in both desgin and dev but seriously with time it will be difficult for you to keep yourself updated with the latest on both ends. You can be a good designer or a good developer but best is to go in one and just casually learn the other, just for the odd moment when you might need it.

^I am a Graphic Designer too right now but have mostly worked as a freelancer doing Identity Design. What sort of work do you do in Graphic Design and what is the average salary of a Graphic Designer here?

- Solely web-design/front end.

If you can deliver complete websites under 48 hours you're good.

If you can work with new ideas, be creative and have a flare for keeping things fresh, you're good.

The market for webdesign is growing. You need to get started, somewhere, anywhere to get experience.

- PHP development.

Goes with Web designing. if you can do both well, you're good

- Node.js.

Kinda niche but works locally

- Ruby on Rails.

Gora people love it. Here, not so much. Way too much work in freelance market.

- Java web application development.

Job ho ya freelane, JAVA zindabad

Complete websites in 48 hours? This goes to show how the clients here would value fast results over carefully crafted quality websites :D

Take a look at this : 10 Best Web Design Firms | Best Web Design Awards | 10 Best Design

See the design firms in this directory, are they're any web design firms here in karachi or even Pakistan in your knowledge who could compete with the work of firms listed here?

"Java web application development. Job ho ya freelane, JAVA zindabad"

Does the pay scale of a Java Developer rise upto 150-175K with upto 3-4 years of experience? Cuz that of all the other ones I listed surely doesn't.

Are you a Java Developer, Blastwave?

if we are moving towards more and more popular trash across platforms that make billions for companies, I'm happy with all the barriers and exclusivity because at least that brings some pressure to create good stuff.

Started Dead Island 2, and i find it pretty lame. The story is shit. The characters are either cringe or bland (all 6 of them), The gameplay isn't fun. Even the goddamn zombies don't behave like proper zombies. They're all fast & intelligent unlike how zombies are supposed to be like. Any fan of "zombie" genre cannot possibly like this shitfest of a game. Dying Light 2 was million times better than this shit.

tbh gaming industry as a whole is failing much like tech industry. They have buckled down too much to Corporate suites then relying on passionate and innovative people. A corporate only believes in financial growth and shareholders.
