People Can Fly’s next game is still coming to PC, PS4, and Xbox One
Square Enix is bringing Outriders, the next game from Bulletstorm and Gears of War: Judgment developer People Can Fly, to PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X. The co-op shooter is also coming to previously announced platforms — PlayStation 4, Windows PC, and Xbox One — by the end of 2020.
In addition to confirming next-generation PlayStation and Xbox versions of the game, a new trailer for Outriders released Tuesday reveals more about the story of the game’s sci-fi story. Escaping a dying Earth, humanity finds solace on a strange new planet called Enoch, the source of a powerful anomaly and hostile indigenous life. Enoch also grants its new human visitors fantastical and destructive superhuman powers: the ability to shoot flame, freeze enemies, and summon rocky earth as protective armor.
People Can Fly’s shooter pedigree is clearly on display in Outriders; trench warfare battles look reminiscent of Gears of War’s cover-based shooting, but embellished with over-the-top, super-powered action.
Outriders was announced at E3 2019. Square Enix and People Can Fly promise drop-in, drop-out cooperative gameplay for up to three players. The game is slated to arrive holiday 2020, the same window the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X are expected to launch.
Square Enix and People Can Fly plan to reveal more about Outriders on Thursday, Feb. 13, at 3 p.m. ET/12 p.m. PT during a livestream on YouTube. Polygon will also have new gameplay details about the game at that time.
People Can Fly was previously owned by Epic Games. The studio regained its independence in 2015.
