Broadband service in Rawalpindi

Hello everyone,

Hope everyone is doing good.

I am here to get a decent suggestion for Broadband service/package. I have been using Micronet Broadband for several years but unfortunately they're closing down their DSL service and sticking with Nayatel only and the problem is that Nayatel isn't available at our area atm. I am very reluctant about PTCL because i always hear people complaining about their service, staff behavior, disconnections etc. plus our area isn't covered with Fibre Optics. And there is no alternative i know in Rawalpindi.

I am looking for at least 4mbps connection, please someone recommend me a good alternative if not then tell me which package of PTCL i should go for? Thanks in advance.

I would suggest the following:
- Find out if there is any local LAN/Cable internet provider in the area ... if there is, ask around about their service around your area
- Check coverage for wi-tribe (Coverage Area | wi-tribe) and Qubee (Coverage Map | Qubee – Broadband Internet) ... packages at Internet Packages | wi-tribe and Postpay | Qubee – Broadband Internet ... the limits are also quite generous for witribe ... try to get a demo first if interested
- The other options include 3g/4g services from mobile operators ... some might not be optimal for gaming and might have certain drawbacks as listed in other threads ... use the search function or visit the dedicated thread!

It would be helpful in recommending an ISP if you could elaborate upon your usage habits for broadband!

Thanks for your time bro. But the problem is that our house is quite near to airport and wireless internet mostly don't work good around here. Some of my friends tried Witribe and no luck. Plus 4G service also don't work indoors. Now, about the usage habit i am a big time downloader so unlimited connection is a must. After research, I came to conclusion that i should go for PTCL Broadband for time being and will switch when Nayatel starts in our area.

Haha yeah luck is what i need now. Just hoping that Nayatel comes to our area asap.

Start out with PTCL! thing with PTCL is if it works it works well and when it doesn't... well, its a headache then. Hopefully, the former will be the case for you.

Secondly, I got PTCL Broadband installed today so far so good. But i didn't get 4mbps, PTCL guys told me that your area has some issues so 4mbps would give you troubles, you should get 2mbps and if it works fine then you can try 4mbps too. I was using 2mbps before with Micronet Broadband. So far, PTCL is working fine its been 5 hours, let it give a week to know the actual performance. I heard from the people that the PTCL will give problem in rain.

Hmm I was wondering how good Nayatel actually is! As with others, everyone in my house is a power user so unlimited is a must! However, how is the ping situation with Nayatel? (cos its REALLY bad with PTCL)

UPDATE: I just upgraded my 2 Mbps to 4 Mbps using the PTCL's new Double Offer where i will be charged additional 99 Rs. for 4 Mbps. As 2 Mbps was performing well, i took advantage of this offer to upgrade and this is also performing quite well despite of the fact that PTCL suggested me to use 2 Mbps not 4 Mbps due to issues in our area.

I am posting the line stats and speed test of my connection, guys please tell me how good or bad is it?

Well, not sure why your line is synced at G.dmt and not ADSL2+, but the stats otherwise seem good.

Not really. You'll probably have slightly lower upload, but that's about it. Everything else works fine and your SNR seems quite good as well.

You can try forcing to ADSL2+, but if the slightly lower upload doesn't bother you, it's fine.

The upload doesn't bother me much. I thought there is any security risk in this. If it's safe then let it be this way. [emoji4]
